Like I said in the original post.

I've been looking at kit cars then came across the Tiger - set my mind off on another tangent.

Still want a kit car though - I think.

Excellent...I'd have to admit to thinking about it, but then thought I'd be a tad nervous on UK roads with it...hillclimbs are not my scene, but I guess that's it's destiny.

There's somewhere in Warrington that does '7' type cars for around 3K :D

Few concerns about bike engines in them though after some logical thinking.

Really?

3k is a track, sell octy pick up LS200 + trailer budget.

Thought logically, got lost south or Witchurch on the test drive...nope can't think what would be wrong with a bike engine...so long as it's a bike and not a scooter.

With a car you tend to use the gears to slow down as well as the brakes.

With a bike you don't because you lock the back wheel.

I'm wondering then, how a bike engine and gearbox would cope with the strain of being driven like a car.

Probably have to drive it more like a bike.

Does that make sense or am I talking tripe :D

Arh yes, I see...don't know.

I tend to not use the gears as much since I got my brakes upgraded. Although on medium paced A roads I guess I still drive on the gears more so I see your point ;). I'd assume form the vast number of bike engined styled cars out there that it can't be a huge issue?

Radical SV8. ......me want.

Isn't the Tiger the one where Tiff Needel tried to break the 0-60 record?

Edit: Just read the link!!!!!!

That's the bugger :D

Speaking to a colleague who has a westy and often goes to track days, he said they're blindingly fast on the straights, but don't like corners. More specifically, two at Cadwell were lapped in every session by most other cars.

Also, didn't Tiff blow the engine and then claimed he stuffed up a gear change? How do you do that on a sequential box?

  • Administrators

It's very true, Look great on straights come out of nowhere...corners are another issues even for the barge like Octy (compared to Cooper S's and Clios)

That said an Octy on slicks has realed in some tasty ones around a little circuit in da norf ;)

Just incase you do get tempted to go the bike engined route have a look hereZ cars .They not only do bike engined kit cars but also a rather nice looking twin bike engined mini kit aswell as a smart car kit.

Which is rapid :D and can be made to look like a normal mini ;)

It's quite easy when you have two engines, two gearboxes and therefore two gearleavers. In Tiff's case he changed up one engine but not the other. Result was one engine overrevved and put a rod through the block

You'd think the shifters would be locked together ...

Want an open top lotus 7 style toy - more chance of getting the all important SWMBO blessing as she likes them.

My mini days are long gone but I wasn't married I'd have got one of those bike engined ones.

A firm called Robin Hood Engineering do a '7' style car on a budget :D

http://www.robinhoodengineering.co.uk (based on a Sierra 2.0)

There is also a book available by Ron Champion to build a 'Locost' similar to a '7' for around

Robinhood don't have the greatest reputation in the research I've done.

Panels and components are very badly finished off and you spend as much time applying plasters as working on the car according to one site I read.

But pretty cheap!!! Maybe not if you add on the cost of plasters though!!!

They have 'mass buying days' where 100s turn up with vans to cart away the bits! I think 'Tiger Racing' mentioned earlier do a basic kit as opposed to factory built and it is meant to be pretty good quality wise.

Failing that you could always do an open top, bike engined Octy!!!
