1.2 TSI real MPG

Featured Replies

I've just looked again, and it shows your average mpg as 32.1,the last mpg as 31.0 and the best as 35.5 mpg acheived on 25/07/12....

Huh? They're not the figures that I see... :wonder:

(38.5 - 37.2 - 42.6)

Does anyone actually know how acurate the Maxidot figure is? and if so any idea of the difference

Each car is different I believe.

My wife's 1.2 DSG Yeti is only 0.1mpg out. Which is impressive, better than any of the others which are diesel. (Greenline II and 170 4x4)

That is averaging 37mpg with under 3k miles on the clock.

But it rarely gets a run, just pottering about.

Thanks Richard, I would probably be happy with around 37/38MPG overall, although I did notice one day whilst cross countrying around 45-55MPH the average on the Maxidot was sticking arounf 42.8 MPG which was quite impressive for a box style vehicle

The graph from last August to the present agrees.?

Unless Fuelly is displaying someone elses figures or something?

I don't recognise those. Not sure what you're looking at but the latest average is always shown in my signature and that's 38.5

Very curious.

I checked "The Plumbers" as he displays Fuelly in his signature as well.

It shows me much lower figures (like yours).Though the mileages are correct.

Maybe it's because I'm not a registered Fuelly user?

Any way It's reassuring that the Fuelly mpg shown in peoples signatures are correct.

TPs figures look OK to me, interesting to see his works out at 2p a mile cheaper than mine to run. Confirms I was right to buy a petrol not a diesel on my mileage.

I have just looked and all but the mileage are far lower than your post. Copied and pasted :wonder: , would be interesting to see if anyone registered with fuelly get a different result from your page.

Thanks Kevin,I thought it was just me seeing those lower figures.

Just had a look at TPs and that is showing 4.4 lower than the one in the signature :wonder:

I have a 1.2 manual with 3500 km on the clock. I've found it to be VERY sensitive to the way you're driving. Being gentle on throttle and shifting up quickly plays a major part with this engine in the Yeti. Crusing at 90km/h I get around 5.5l/100km. Doing 120km/h I get around 7l/100km. Heavy right foot will get you easily into 10l/100km.

See my #151 above. As you can see from my signature, I am registered :hi:

Errrrr no. Not for those of us who surf using TapaTalk. We don't get to see people's wonderful signatures!

Sent using whatever device I'm using at the time.

^^ Ah! I didn't realise there was invisible ink in use here. What have I been missing?! But Kevin's conventional, isn't he? Or is he?

Eureka! Thanks Freedie.

One for the pot; my 1.2 on a run today (currently with about 350kms on the clock so running in) 6.6l/100km or circa 43 mpg average on the tank so far. Not sure it will do that with a brisker approach to the roads round here.....

yeti 1.2 auto 2013

getting consistent 36.5 mpg

I've just done my first fill-to- fill with my 1.2 manual Elegance and got 36.7mpg - spot on with the MFD prediction. (Well done Skoda, my Volvo was consistently 15% off). This was a mix of a couple of runs out (maybe 30 miles each way) and local driving on 30 mph urban roads and some 40-50 mph on country lanes. A lot of the time the windows (and sunroof) were open for the dogs which wouldn't have help economy. For comparison my 2.0 diesel Volvo estate regularly returned just about 40mpg for similar driving/journeys. Assuming things improve slightly as the engine wears in, I'll be pretty happy with this sort of fuel consumption for day-to-day local driving.

(As I'd driven diesels for 20 years or more, a diesel Yeti was my first choice until the spectre of DPFs raised its head. With much of my driving being short distances at low revs regular regeneration seemed to be an unnecessary worry. With the Yeti and this engine I really don't regret going back to petrol).

I have the 1.4 TSI and with only 1000 on the clock the av. MPG. Is 39 which I am happy with as there is no motorway driving yet, just plodding around East Anglia at the weekends and back and forward down the A14 to the train station. I have opened things up to 5000rpm in 3rd to overtake a couple of times with no issues. Lovely car, we are happier by the mile.....

I love my new Yeti 1.2 apart from one thing - I am getting less than 30mpg. I have been driving many short trips of less than 3 miles but even so I can almost see the fuel gauge dropping before my eyes.

I am an experienced, careful driver who got 60mpg from my previous diesel and I know how to run a car in so it's not my bad driving. Today it showed 22mpg on the Maxidot for a 3 mile trip to the shops!

I've recently only got 30 - 40 mpg on a journey of about 50 miles doing no more than 60 mph. It's very inconsistent.

2012 Yeti 1.2 DSG average to date on a brim full-to-brim full basis is 40.32 MPG; best is 43.69 and worst is 32.79  on a terrible 300 mile high speed motorway journey into a howling gale. High speed motorway trips generally result in higher fuel consumption (no surprise there!) and general pottering around in a mixture of urban, rural and short (50 mile) motorway journeys gets me between 40 and 42 MPG. Driving style does have a major impact on fuel consumption and I would describe my style as "smooth but brisk".

2013 1.2 DSG. Mainly short runs of 3 to 5 miles and I get about 34 to 36 mpg. This is actual the readout is about 1.5 mpg higher.

Hi Castleween, it's hardly surprising you are seeing a low mpg on short runs. A car runs very inefficiently when cold (and creates a huge amount of pollution and wear on the engine), so you should hardly be surprised if your mpg is low on short runs.

Keep an eye on your engine temp gauge. Once it is at normal temp then the car will have entered its efficient zone. Until then it's best advise to drive very gently (let the gear selector on the dash be your guide) to avoid excessive wear on your engine and wasting fuel. It takes quite a while until your engine will be warm, only then is it fair to consider and compare fuel consumption figures. Also, regarding the mpg inconsistency the margin or error for generating an mpg figure on a short run is very high, hence the variability in readings.

I manage 45+ mpg on my journeys that are a mix of A & B roads but mainly single track roads and towns in hilly terrain. The only way to manage this is a very gentle throttle action and by looking way ahead down the road to avoid needless speed and acceleration.

But for journeys of under 3 miles I always get my best mpg by taking my bicycle!

1st week of ownership.

Averaging 35 mpg. And I'm taking it easy.  I must admit I was expecting more.
