That's good - an app that allows you to find the (IMHO) most expensive fuel around! :x

Shell have a new app which is good for tracking your drivers club points, mot, insurance, road tax, find stations and bonus points offers sent direct to your app.

Eh ? all fuel is basically the same price, so you can't knock BP alone. :dull:

Of the apps I have on my Galaxy S I recommend the following:

- Angry Birds (very addictive: passes time on the morning commute)

- EBay (very useful if you do lots of trading on there)

- Scanner Radio (broadcasts live stuff from emergency services from various corners of the globe)

- Flightradar24 Pro (excellent if you have visitors from abroad a lot and you want to know where their plane is: v acurate)

- Paper Toss (good fun to play on morning commute)

- Talking Tom / Talking Tom 2 (great for entertaining young children)

- QR Droid (for decoding those funny new barcodes)

FR24 Pro you have to pay for to get all the functions out of it but it is the only app I have ever found it worthwhile to pay for.

Not sure if it is mentioned elsewhere on the forum but Amazon are doing a free app every day, one previously charged for and then charged again for after the event. You need to download their app store app from the amazon website and enable apps from other sources in the device settings. Have had quite a few good apps from them already.

Skyscanner is a nice application for sorting your flights out

Yet to try it but just downloaded Strava cycling which records the routes you do, average speed, time, top speed etc. While loads do this it also compares your times with others using the app and have cycled that stretch of road and puts you on a leaderboard. In theory it looks good.

Does anyone know of a decent battery widget that works correctly in ICS?

Both battery time and battery circle keep stopping and showing incorrect battery levels.

It's nice to have a percentage value rather than just a bar that HTC give you.

I use battery monitor pro on my S3 without any problems.

See the signal strength for networks in your area and locations that matter to you to either help you find a better network or complain about your current network.

Help build the map by enabling background testing and upload the results when you're near a wifi point.

Welcome to my world :)

It's highly motivational, although also highly divisive amongst the club cycling community. Personally I love it, as I often train on my own. Just don't try and get onto the Nantgarw sprint which ix the section through Treforest estate, as the traffic lights are inconveniently placed in the middle.

OT but a local cycling club are a bit funny like that too. I won't mention names but I live in Gorseinon and this club is just the other side of the bridge. A friend of mine, like both of us tends to cycle alone but is a lot fitter than I am, cycles hundreds of miles in a week if he had the time, full Dura Ace group set on a custom build frame, all the gear. We were in the pub one night and someone from said club came over and tried to get him to join. He asked where do they cycle and one of these places was Llandovery. He asked do they go further than this and they said "no we stay the night and come back". We both laughed and left him to it. I could understand an amateur like me but this was a club and one that's been about for years. I did that when I was 14!

Sadly I'm not that fit any more :( Should have good crack at it if the weather is better and I get time.

Just downloaded MyCar recorder lite, which turns your phone into a dash cam, I think there has a similar app for iphones for a while.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dadny.recorder.lite.google&hl=en

Tried it yesterday and was quite impressed, got some reasonable footage despite my dodgy phone holder.

It seems to record in three minute segments, not sure if this is different in the paid version.

All in all, well worth a free download, especially if like me you cant decide what dash cam to get

The app reviews are very mixed on this, especially relating to app crashes. I'll be very interested to hear how you get on over time.

Have been using Deep Sleep app for android for the last week, to see how good it is as a battery saver, & found it to be absolutely brilliant, as it shuts down wifi if its left on when the screen shuts off, then back on when you re activate the screen.

This app even free version has limited personalisation, but enough for me on the S3

Thanks for the heads-up; looks good. Just an FYI, the app is Deepsleep; Deep Sleep home page shows a delightful girl/young woman relaxing to the gentle tunes from the Deep Sleep app :)

Right, I've used this a few times and it does crash a fair bit, its only crashed on me after I've been recording and I try to re-enter the app to stop the recording, so it doesn't really effect the usefulness of the app.

I'd say if you're looking for a drive recorder then get the proper kit, but if you're looking for a short term solution while you're deciding what kit or saving for the kit, this does the job.

I use AutoGuard Black Box.

Seems fine unless you leave all the GPS stuff turned on and try and use TomTom at the same time, then it all gets a bit laggy.

I'll give that a try tomorrow

Actually, the AA app for Android has a Fuel Price feature - it tries to show the cheapest five stations within a five mile radius of either your current location or a specified one. Plus the usual stuff like member special offers etc - like the Shell club app.

Not liking the Google Maps app much these days - too many mistakes and it doesn't work so well in deepest Yorkshire or Scottish Borders (no data signal). Instead I've been using ALK CoPilot for my sat nav for a while - that stores its maps locally. :)

Not strictly motoring app, but Convertor Pro is a good "how many X in Y" type app, although some of the conversions are just plain strange. E.g. according to it a petrol car getting 34.6mpg will generate 189.5 g/km of CO2 - that confused me.

Further to my earlier post above of 07th April 2012 I ended up with the following on my Galaxy S1:

- Angry Birds
- Ebay
- Scanner Radio
- Flightradar24 Pro
- Paper Toss
- Talking Tom / Talking Tom 2
- QR Droid

- Go Locker (replaces usual lockscreen with themed ones)

- Go SMS Pro (replaces usual SMS with themed interfaces)

- Go Contacts (replaces usual phone dialer with themed ones)

- Cologne (Germany) Tourism App

- Klondike

- 4Shared

and a few others. Have now changed the Galaxy S1 for an S3. So far I have downloaded Flightradar24 Pro (paid version: very good and useful for when I go picking people up from Bristol Airport), Klondike (for passing time on the train), Ebay (useful), Trainline (useful for work) and Shazam.

The Android 4 version of FR24 Pro is better than the version I had on my previous phone: still very accurate and well worth the money. Good for enthusiasts too I would think for the information it gives.
