Following an unprecedented gestation period of 22 months, with a few false alarms on the way, and after a 5 hour labour, I am pleased to announce the arrival of.......................

It may not seem a big deal for most of you out there, but for me this is the Holy Grail :party: :party:

There are still a few teething problems with coding issues for TPM and ABS, but to all intents and purposes it's a fully functioning maxidot retrofit

Ahhhhhh, its got your eyes Bryan. Have you thought of a name yet? :rofl:

In all seriousness, looking good Bryan, am jealous of the track display :thumbup:;)

I was initially scared for you and thought that all future modding money was gone. Glad to see that it was just just a car and not a daughter. Feel sorry for your missus though, her **** must be in tatters! :giggle:

good song choice aswell!

My Vrs came with a Speedo and Rev counter, I'd have thought yours would have done.

About time too.

I thought maybe you were going to put a petrol engine in it..

:p

I very nearly PMSL.........in fact I would have done if it had been funny :dull:

About time too.

Granted :yes: Now I just need to get the codings sorted to get rid of the illuminations :S

I'm intent on only putting mods on that will improve the car :p

how much are maxi conversions btw?

Why does your CR vRS redline at 4500RPM when mine redlines at 5000RPM?

Why does your CR vRS redline at 4500RPM when mine redlines at 5000RPM?

I was going to say:

PD = 4,500 RPM

CR = 5,000 RPM

But you both have CR's?

Indeed...

Dont you have to change the cluster to add Maxidot? So couldn't the cluster have come from a PD? Or can you use your original dials? :wonder:

I can't answer that one, but as I spend the majority of my time driving in D mode with the DSG it doesn't really matter

As Mike rightly says, the cluster must be for the CR engine (and the part number confirms this), otherwise there's no way it would work in the first place. The Mastertech who fitted it has assured me that the ABS and TPM faults are down to coding, and he's sent a report off to Skoda in an attempt to clear them

It might only be a minor thing, but the info panel on the maxidot is a king compared to the standard item, especially when it's hooked in to the MFD3 :thumbup:

Now do I go for 19" wheels or stick with the 18s?

If it's working, the cluster definitely isn't for a PD -- I can categorically tell you that one! Bryan originally bought a cluster which turned out to be a PD cluster, and it just would not work. The immobiliser hardware is totally different in the PD and CR clusters. How can I be so certain of this? This is the very reason I bought Bryan's PD cluster, and had it fitted in my Elegance 1.9PD!

The original dials CAN be swapped over -- Bryan's original was for his VRS, but I wanted to keep the original look of the Elegance, and Ben at Shark Performance, swapped the dial faces before he fitted the cluster for me.

Mike

Well there's my 'learn something new every day' right there. Interesting stuff. Thanks Mike :thumbup:

Why does your CR vRS redline at 4500RPM when mine redlines at 5000RPM?

The pre-FL CR cars appear to be red-lined at 4,500 rpm, and the FL CR cars at 5,000, although I am not aware of any differences in the engine. The PD was 4,500 rpm.

I don't know if Skoda couldn't be bothered changing the revcounter until they facelifted the interior. Not sure is anyone has tried revving their pre-FL CR to 5,000 rpm?

I managed to confuse the DSG in mine once and my CR revved to about 5200 before I came off the loud peddle... doesn't seem to have done any damage :S

Only time I've managed to redline the car as the DSG, even in manual mode, normally changes up before the red line... (Mine is a FL car though)

Well I know for a fact that a DSG car in "S" will go right to the redline (having owned one previously)

The test would be for Brimma to put it into S and gun it and see when it changes up.

Obviously a CR car will go right up to 5K and as Griffo points out - if Skoda couldn't be bothered to change the dials (and lets be honest that would be a cheaper option if they knew a facelifted interior would only be a year or two away anyway (thinking from the point of view that CR's went into vRS's in 2008(?)))
