Yeti spotting - result!

Featured Replies

Just got back from France, saw only three, one at Pont Du Hoc and two more on the way up to the tunnel, I would have thought the Yeti would be a snapped up there, it being good for that part of Europe? in fact, saw more Yeti"s on the M!/M20 in one day than in one week in Normandy. mmm

I am now seeing many more Yetis both in the UK and on trips to France - but, crabfat, the French prefer Dacia Dusters (see other posts)!

Was driving along today minding my own business when all of a sudden a car behind me started hooting. I was all ready to wind down my window to demand what his problem was. Until I saw he was driving a candy white yeti urban the same as mine!!!!!

We pulled up at the lights and had a nice chat much to the annoyance of everyone behind us!!

Isnt it lovely that us Yeti owners are so pleased to see each other.

I was also stopped the other day at some traffic lights by someone who was so keen to tell me he had one on order.!!

On Sunday 29/7, I saw FocusZtec on the Grossglockner between Kaiser Frans Josef's Hohe and Fuschl. Both of us some 600 miles from home!

My wife thinks it is really sad!!

My wife thinks it is really sad!!

Yes, my wife also!----------- but i am a biker so used to waving at other users !

PS-----I See a red yeti on the way to work (South East Wales )most mornings and we allways give a wave !

Me too. Although I don't get as many nods/waves on my Vespa as I did on my Harley! The only other cars we've had that got waves were two 2CVs.

John

Didn't have a chance to wave but I saw a Muscadavo Yeti with roof bars, travelling north on the A1 about 1/2 mile before the M25 junction at South Mimms, on my way into the office c. 06:40hrs this morning.

I was going south, with a closing speed of c. 140mph and tall grass in the central reservation not much chance to see the driver, or for him/her to see me.

My wife also thought it was really sad - until she was driving by herself a few weeks back and got a wave herself. Now she's as avid a Yeti spotter as me, and if I miss one I get "there's one, why didn't you wave"? By the way, her first car was a 2CV (long before I knew her) and she says she always used to wave at other 2CV drivers

On the way back from Swansea yesterday on the M4 we came up behind a silver Yeti, just like ours. We passed by, slowly and I waved & I think I had a wave from the driver, or was it just that his hand was hanging on the handle above the door?

He followed us for a while and it was a nice sight to see 2 Yeti's the same colour 'in convoy' with our DRLs aglow. We had to get home, so i put my foot down, DSG engaged warp drive and off we went to Haverfordwest.

Pulling into Morrisons, for some reduced price diesel, a red Yeti was just puling out. I must admit I have never had or wanted a red car - I have been too used to seeing them a few years into their life span when the bonnet or front wing has faded to some light pink colour, but I must admit a Yeti in red did look nice!

In Swansea we had some admiring glances from some youngsters at the side of the road. Well I thought so, but when I looked there was a 2 door White Range Rover Evoque behind us that was getting the admiring glances. Now where did I put my white Mercedes SLK?

Saw a LHD Muscovado 1.2 in Betws-y-Coed and a Steel Grey 110 2WD in Llandudno. I was on foot each time, so waving seemed a little silly, and flashing was right out! No sign of any on the way home.

flashing was right out

Standards are slipping ... I'd have at least offered them a sight of the moon (alloys that is). :sun:

Having had my Yeti since June last year, today was the first time I saw another near to where I live. A silver 2 WD, KT10xxx going through Cottesmore at about 10.00 this morning.

I live in the 'sunny south' and in a rather busy holiday area. I am now seeing Yetis regularly, most with non local plates, and I have to say they are becoming rather common. Today I must have passed around 4 on local roads and, as I was driving my trusty Berlingo van, thought I may have been considered a rather eccentric local inbred if I'd started waving at them!

Oi! Andy...

Yetis are NOT common. They're popular ;)

Following my previous post two days ago; yesterday, a chap came to the bowls club in a black, 140 diesel, Elegance. This was his second Yeti, having bought his first in 09. I wonder if they come in threes?

Had to go to a Motor Club meeting in Rugby yesterday, and 2 seen.

One on the way there as I was near Kidderminster, then the second was behind me as I was about to join the M6 northbound out of Rugby and then overtook me.

At last! Got flashed today by one of the local SMs (Aqua Blue on a private plate, M2 ***) - first time I've seen it since getting mine.

Passed one this afternoon waiting in the traffic for the lights to change across Stamford Bridge (Harold & Vikings, not football), got a wave but I didn't get chance to wave back; changing gear at the time

Yet another reason for taking the DSG option :giggle:

Agreed but I would miss that extra interaction between man and machine

Soon end up with cars like on I Robot, where driving yourself is frowned upon :'(

Although I was having a joke you raise an interesting point. Until a few years ago I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you. I suspect part of the reason for the change is advancing age, but I think the real conversion point was when my wife got a Fabia DSG. It is so different from old style auto boxes that it really can't be placed in the same class. Of course, you can still make the gear changes manually if you like although there is no clutch pedal. What I find really interesting though is how you can control the gearbox via the throttle pedal. It's not just that a hard push gives you an instant gear drop, but also the way that a slight lift will send it cycling back up through the gears. You need to spend a bit of time with one to really get to grips with it as the first few miles are spent getting used to an auto box, but once you do it's a new driving experience.

Of course, you may have tried it and decided you prefer manual, but if you haven't try to get a hundred miles or so in one and see what you think. Should you end up in this neck of the woods you can have a go in mine, if you let me try out yours to see how I feel about the 16" wheels.

We are waiting for our first yeti, probably another 10 weeks to go. We did consider a dsg box, as a friend of ours had one in a Seat Leon, and we're very impressed with that.

In the end after reading about the increased delay, due to a shortage across all the VAG group, we opted for a manual.

I remember many years ago when auto boxes were first introduced into Fire appliances, when the likes of Volvo and Skania started to break the dominance of Dennis and Bedford.

Many of us said that we wouldn't like the idea, saying we would prefer the control of the manual. Interestingly after a few high speed drives it became obvious that the auto box made for much quicker progress. Once the trick of selecting a low gear prior to an obstacle, such as a roundabout, meant that engine braking came once road speed had dropped, having negotiated it select D plant your foot to the floor and concentrate on steering.

It was a different style.

If I lived in any large city it would be DSG without hesitation.

Maybe next time!

Saw my first "URBAN" outside a holiday cottage in Bridlington on Saturday Looked OK not sure about the huge wheels though other than that it was FAB .......

Yes done quite a bit of DSG and regular auto driving; my dad is hopeless with manual gears, so he tends to have automatics. Currently has a Superb II TDI 170 DSG with flappy paddles; very nice to drive in both auto and 'manual' but I still prefer a 'clutch and stick' well at this current time anyway.
