Footwell Lights

Featured Replies

after reading this thread i thought id have a crack at it on my 2012 fl octavia vrs.

i purchased this kit

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-FOOTWELL-LIGHT-FOR-VW-GOLF-6-JETTA-MK5-MK6-TIGUAN-PASSAT-B6-5ND-947-415-/281382417095?hash=item4183b2f2c7:g:LhAAAOxycmBSrSPF

which amazingly arrived in 3 days.

the loom is pre made and fitted without any need to modify it so the kit was plug and play.

its made to be installed from the passenger seat along the door shut and to the glovebox along the back of the stereo to the driverside where it has the earth and the canbus cable and the along the door shut to the drivers seat.

all fitted fine, obviously holes needed to be made for the front lights but that wasnt an issue.

all coded in and working fine via vcds and they work as described by jr rs as we have the same cars i.e. work with door courtesy lights at 100% and then come on at a preset % via maxidot with the headlights.

Every cloud, silver linings, all that stuff! :)

So I had a leak the other week which resulted in my carpet being a cm under water, same as the random occurrence two years ago (turns out it's simply the rubber door seal being slightly away from the lip, annoyingly!), so out come the carpets... AGAIN!! Anyway, I thought it'd be a good opportunity to get this mod done, and I'd like to thank all on here who have chipped in. It's currently 3am, I'm on a nightshift, and in between calls I've managed to pretty much fit/wire it in. Hopefully, once I get to someone with VCDS It'll all play nice and smoothly, fingers crossed!

Thanks a LOT to Dallan's pics on page 6 which enabled me to identify what/where the hell the cecm was after dropping the relay board!! For those who are wondering, it's on the top in the middle, and held in my a red slide bar across the entire board, and the wires in Dallan's picture are exactly the same colour & placement as on mine,... so if it isn't that one, I may be screwed but it's also incredibly coincidental that it looks identical!! :peek:   :D

Also pleased to get the USB sockets hardwired in tonight, so that's another job done.

One question; where exactly have people been running the wire from the cecm/driver's light to the passenger side? I just stuck mine over the top of my stereo, under the top binnacle (admittedly, because I couldn't be @rsed to take the stereo out to fit it all behind!), but I just wondered if there was a neater option that was more obvious and I just hadn't seen?

Fitted some the other day in my FL I ran the wires behind the ashtray. Once it came out there was loads of room

I'm guessing the shanghai kit is sort of designed to go up and over as when I just fed it behind the heater at the bottom there was a ton of cable left between the cecm and the first connector in the front footwell.

Trust me, I felt it yesterday morning... zzzzzzzzzzzz! :)

The carpets are back in this week, so hopefully in the next few months when I'm roaming around and about I'll be able to find someone with VCDS to switch it all on.

It's all in now (not the carpets, that's the next few days) so just a case of getting it activated at some point. There's no-one I know around north hampshire/surrey/berkshire who has VCDS so hopefully I'll be able to find someone next year when I do the annual trip to Norfolk. Such a long time from now though, and I want them on NOW, NOW, NOW!!!! :)

Quick question, someone might even be able to linky to something I can't see, but does anyone know the cecm versions for different part numbers? Only asking cos my motor is very near the fl changeover and had other parts before which were crossover so this might be the same. Dealer said my part number is 1k0 959 433 BT but dunno if that'd make it an AJ revision or 3C8 or what?! Guessing it's an AJ but you never know, I might have a few more options available to me. :)

That is the convenience module and not the Central electrics

Ah, dealer messed up then! :giggle:

Okay, so they've said the part number is 3c8 937 049 ac which would indicate the latter, but this is just what they'd order if I needed to get a replacement so I'm none the wiser I guess. :dull:  Where is the central electrics module... part of me is tempted to just have a look!

it is above the pedals

Okay, so I know where all the connectors pop in to the big black block which clips out, what am I looking for??

Oh, it's all wired in, mainly courtesy of Dallan's pics earlier in this thread, just trying to work out what/where the CECM is so I can see what version it is, but thinking about it, you said it'll definitely be the AJ and NOT the 3C8 so it's a bit of a moot point.

EDIT: Ah, is the CECM the ACTUAL black plastic block that holds the other connector blocks (picture on the left on page 4 of the spanish guide)?? I was thinking it was something like a specific module which does something, not the holder. Is there some wizard like magic inside it that I can't see then cos, again, I just thought it was a holder?!

Thanks to all for this effort on footwell lights... MY MOTOR IS NOW IS HAPPILY GLOWING AWAY DOWN BY MY PLATES OF MEAT!!!...

...although the car's currently on charge cos we were sitting fiddling so long with the headlights on and decided to ignore the 'BONG' of the low battery warning!! :giggle:

Anyway, I think it might be prudent to get someone to put a very important bit of info on to this thread (I'm looking at you mainly here Mike!! :) ) Searched every post and there's no mention of where to switch them on with VCDS if you've got a pre-fl; all references are to the fl. This is the reason it took Alex from the Superb forum and I ages to confirm that there was indeed only one box to tick to get them to work, having already known that the permanent running option is only on the FL. Aplogies I can't put the long coding byte info stuff on here myself, but Alex has gone and I can't remember where it was, but it definitely wasn't Byte 12 / tick 5 & Byte 20 / tick 0 (although I have a funny feeling it was Byte 12, just one of the other tick boxes?) Anyhoo, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell us which box to tick for the pre-fl and save some other poor buggers a longwinded search to make sure they're not doing the wrong thing! :)

Hi all,

I have convenience module part 1K0 959 433 BT and CECM part 3C8 937 049 E on my 58 plate pre-facelift vRS.  Does my version of CECM support ambient lighting?

I've got the footwell light kit and am planning on fitting it tomorrow (weather permitting).  Do I need to use block B pin 7 or 50?  I believe it is pin 7, but I'd be grateful for a confirmation, please!

Cheers :)

Your CECM supports it

B7

Code it, and you can also have the option of ambient footwell light (they stay on at reduced output)

Excellent! Thanks for your swift reply Eddie

This runs through the sequence when going into the maxidot settings menu:

Mike, how do you have the Convenience and Lights & Vision menus available on your pre-facelift Maxidot?  It was my understanding these menus weren't available on the older CECM, compared with the BCM fitted to facelift models.

Cheers

To have Lights and Vision you need to have a Pre-facelift maxidot which can understand DDP signal from your CECM

With a Facelift Cluster it doesn't understand the DDP and uses BAP to communicate with the BCM

Fitted the lights and got them switched on with VCDS. They come on with the interior courtesy lights and go off with ignition as normal.

We can't find any options for ambient lighting with headlights though, despite having the 3C8 CECM. Ed, can you shed some light (!) on what coding is required to get this working please?

I get it now, they speak a different language! :D

that looks like it

Indeed it is.

For the benefit of others, on a pre-FL, ambient lighting is enabled on byte 16, bit 7.

I was hoping for two different settings for brightness for courtesy lighting (ignition off) and ambient lighting (headlights on). Unfortunately it seems the only way to reduce the ambient light level from the overall (courtesy light) brightness level is to use the rheostat for all instrument and dash lighting. Shame.
