Footwell Lights

Featured Replies

Switching the interior light on manually doesn't switch them on. They will come on when a door is opened along with the other cabin lights.

They are all on the same circuit so can only come on together (not individually when the relevant door is opened)

Do you look at your feet a lot at night then?

:giggle:

More than I look at my rear seat oassengers' feet :)

Yeah, i'd actually prefer to only have them go on & off in sync with the interior lighting, so that's a bonus if I can be @rsed to do it. :0)

So Mike, am I right in reading that they come on & off with the 'coming home' setting (ala with the mirror lights), AND when sitting in the car they'll come on if you flick the interior light on? If the latter, does it come on one sided if you switch the reading light on or is it the main one which does all or nothing?

They donnot come on if you flick the interior light manually.

The only way is how JR RS has mentioned.

From what I understood, the lights on Mike´s car comes on only when the interior light is activated with remote control or opening a door.

when parking lights turned on they will not come on dimmed to the value chosen on maxidot.

Edited by alberg

Gotcha. Do they dim in the same manner as the interior light?

How about wiring them up to the light switch lighting or the mirror adjusting knob? Then they would light up when you turn on the lights?

For me I´am glad you are a bit happy on result.

Sad it´s not working the way I hooped for, same as on FL, but still in contact to try and see if for you can be resolved.

It does look good when you open the doors at night doesn´t it

switching on the reading lights (the little ones on either side of the main/centre dome light) does not trigger the footwell lights.

is there a way of turning on the dome lights without opening the doors? not that i need it. more of a curiosity thing.

Yes, just take key off the ignition :hi:

do the ones on ebay linked in this thread come with the wires or just the bulbs?

so i've finally finished wiring it all up - front & rears.

thanks to all ur help - definitely made my task easier.

for those buying the footwell lighting kit from boldsport, the wiring (routed via the door sill covers) is not of enough length from the front to the rear footwell. i had to cut & extend the wiring by another 30-40cms, to fit comfortable.

i got myself some plastic tubing and covered up the wires so it looks OEM.

i also cut a hole into the hard plastic for the front driver's side footwell. now it sits flat & feels sturdy.

u can see the original hole i had cutout for the footwell lighting. the soft foam was bending in an unfavorable angle. so i cut into the hard plastic.

OK heard from Eddie-NL.

My central electronics controller, and the one Skoda fitted to the Octavia, is a revision AJ. Although this does have the option for ambient lighting via footwell lights, this option does not work.

To enable the function, it is necessary to change the CECM to the 3C8 version.

There is one on ebay at the moment for £70.

Sorry, are you saying that this module would allow you to 'turn on' the fottwell lights by switching on the interior lights as I asked earlier, or am I getting confused and it does something else that i'm not seeing?

Nope - the newer module controls the ambient lighting of the footwell lights when the headlights are on.

On the earlier controller they operate just like the interior lights do on door opening etc., but they can be dimmed by the Maxidot menu. They will not come on with the headlights.

You cannot turn them on manually with the interior light switch on either module.

I don´t think any Octavia was ever fitted with this.

It´s a copy of other models within the VW group, mainly the Golf

Do you guys reckon you could strip the whole setup out of a golf from a scrappy if one could find one?

Do you reckon you'd have been able to fit it without extending the cable if you'd have run it under the jumbo box?

Ah, that's okay, I wouldn't want them on when i'm driving anyway. :)

Any models with these fitted as standard will have the wiring as part of the looms, and there must be 50 cables in the loom going to the CECM. All you need is one repair wire to fix into the CECM, 4 lights and a length of cable to do the job properly.

Approx 4 metres of cables used -- from the CECM to a new connector with 4 cables, one to each light.

OSF direct to the wire from the CECM.

OSR from the new connector under the carpet, and follow airbag wiring to drivers seat.

NSF routed to follow main loom up across bulkhead, behind radio unit and down other side into footwell.

NSR from NSF cable, routed uner carpet, following airbag wiring to passenger seat.

Main problem I had on routing the wires was actually under the passenger seat, where access was really tight with the premium sound amp mounted here.

Alberg, you mention that no Octavia was fitted with footwell lighting. I think you are quite right, but some models of Superb ARE fitted with them. Having said that, ETKA specifically mentions footwell light units on its Octavia pages.

Mike

Cheers Mike. To be honest, it sounds pretty straightforward to wire this lot in now, especially since I had the carpets out for that leak a few months ago so I know what's what pretty well under there, and don't have the amp so should be easier than yours if I do do it. :)

When I first started this post (june 2011), did not read anything about this except that only the Superb came with them from factory..

The Golf 6 had them but only under dash.

Ever since JR RS got really interrested seems more and more Octavians are looking to install this.

We now know that works 100% on FL models but on PRE-FL models it all depends on the CECM, as Mike has said.

With all Octavias owners here and on other forums, none ever mentioned having this from factory and I myself don´t know if it´s on the options list.

Is Mike's point about fl/pre-fl CECMs only relevant if you want the EXTRA feature of being on whilst driving? If you're happy just to have them come on when you open the door or use the alarm, should ALL pre-fl octys do this?

So, just to clarify, what IS showing up on your pre-fl maxidot as options for the footwell lighting then?

Check you with the navigation option on the main menu! :finger::angel: One more thing making me think I should get VCDS, ya bugger!

Cheers Mike.

Do you reckon you'd have been able to fit it without extending the cable if you'd have run it under the jumbo box?

would most definitely fit (without extending the cable) had i ran it through the centre console & under the jumbo box. its almost a straight line path to the back, from behind the stereo.

there were too many components & fiddly bits to remove with the centre console.....for me anyway.

the side door sills were much much easier. less than 5 mins to expose all the necessary trim panels, including the glovebox, under the steering wheel & top storage compartment.

This is one of the things I love about the Octavia, so easy to take apart and put back together. :)

The interior is, certainly. Just by using common sense, I had the jumbo box, all the seats AND the carpet/undercarpet out without any hassles within a few hours.

Pics please Mike :)

Where did you order the parts from, and what did they cost?
