Footwell Lights

Patience, my dear sir, patience!

Will get some photos later once it has gone dark! Pic of new badges already posted in New Badge thread (post 269)

(You're itching to do the footwell lights in yours, aren't you??? )

Mike

Haha! Thanks Mike - I'll wait here patiently :D

You're quite right, it's re-ignited by desire for footwell lighting. Just need to remember where I've put them now; think they were originally destined for a Fabia....

Also, on this discussion of footwell light control; all the cars I've ever used/been in that have these as standard - they're never on while you're in motion so I wouldn't be concerned at all about that. To my mind that's not what they're for. BMWs, Mercs and a Mk6 ED35 Golf spring to mind for that.

Sorry to be a pain mike, but I don't suppose you've got any part numbers handy?

Sorry mike, don't suppose you could price those parts individually could you? If I do this, some things i'm likely to get from the scrappy but some will be from skoda, just need to choose which based on cost.

Also, what's the repair wire? Is it a massive length/roll of wire to connect all the small bits up?

On the repair wire, it's worth noting that this is also available from VW dealers under the same part number, just in case one is nearer to you.

Any P/N starting 000 should be available from either Skoda or VW - not sure if it's the case for Seat and Audi as well, but that's certainly helped me in the past as I have a VW dealer on the doorstep.

Well, that's a billy bonus as i've got a few of those repair wire connectors knocking around from when I was fitting the cat-vision! If I can find the light units from a golf or summat in one of the scrappy's near me, I can get the rest of the stuff for 'free' using the £50 voucher I got when I took out the service/mot offer. Having said that, if I find the lights units, I suppose i'll just clip them with the connectors on anyway, as long as they're not corroded or owt!

Cheers mike & RS for showing me what they look like at least. :)

Mike, can I assume that on top of those parts, you still had to use a roll/s of wire to connect them all up, yup?

Sounds like it might be quite a fun mod to do now it's all been proven to work so well and not cost a fortune.

OK Wardy, just for you, here are a couple of photos of the completed job.

Thanks Mike! They look..... very green :D

Well done Mike, looks good:)

The repair wire connectores are the way to go, makes it easy to remove the footwell light if need to change bulb and it looks "original".

Confused. Every light of this style i've seen has a connector on it so I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to just unclip it if it was done some other way. Are there ways of doing this where it's hard wired or something??

The BoldSport kit arrived today. 2 lights with the wiring harnass. You can get LED bulb upgrades, and a set that includes the rear footwells aswell. 11 days from HK to Belgium for 30,01€ shipped!

It's been a while, but I can finally say I'm done now!

Changed my 3C0 CECM to the 3C8 937 433 E revision. This enabled cornering fogs (neato!) Installed the footwell lights as per instructions (Connector B - Pin 7 and ground)

Problems;

1. Bulbfailure dash warning, rear tail lights. This was linked to the 3C8 CECM being an ex-Passat CECM. Coding solved it (although it was a hard one to crack, took over a month and quite a few helpers!)

2. Adjustment of the % didn't work. It appeared in the Maxidot, but didn't work. The lights worked correctely, dimming when appropriate after shutting the door or turning on the ignition, but when in footwell light mode they were on 100%. This was my fault, as I installed some LED W5W lights before fitting the footwell lights (stupid, I know). These couldn't do the adjustement. Installed some Osram W5W lights that came for free with my DRLs, and now they dim perfectely!

Are they CANBUS W5W LED’s? reason I ask is my Superb and SWMBO’s TT both have CANBUS W5W LED’s fitted in the footwell lights and they both dim via the maxidot / DIS.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but does anyone know when (i.e which MY) the Central Electronics Control Module would have been upgraded to the necessary one to support footwell lighting please?

From Mike's autosignature it seems you DIDN'T need to change it for your 08 plate, so I'm guessing I might be lucky with an 08 plate myself??

If so am quite interested in the BoldSport kit...

Thanks

Adam

Ah ok thanks for this. Did you plug the repair wire into pin 50 on the standard module too then? (This is what is indicated on the BoldSport loom.)

Adam

Edit: Sorry have now read full post from start and saw Mikes earlier reference to pin 7 in connector B. Reckon its worth a go so thanks for all the info.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am trying to install my footwell lights this weekend. How does one access the back of the CECM to insert the necessary connector please?

Edit: worked it out in the end and installed two at the front and two at the back. Happy to offer advice to anyone who wants to do this themselves on a pre FL Octavia.

Thanks

Adam

C'mon Mike, what's he connected it to for you to use red??

(oh, and was playing in a golf down the scrappy the other day and it looks like, with a bit of work, the loom will come out and go straight into an octy: the wiring colour is red & white/very light grey stripes. Bloody thing snapped at the connector end as I was taking it out so just gotta find another donor. :wall::giggle: It's all good fun.)

Ok been watching this for a while, and due to mad price from the dealer (€65-70) for the various bits, hadnt done anything about it until...... i found this on ebay http://www.ebay.ie/itm/151029585905?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 for £20 plus postage so i thought i would chance it

Stuff arrived the other day with the original boxes "VW Shanghai" and what seem like genuine VAG part numbers etc. on them and a pre made cable for connecting them, plan to fit them over the weekend as monday is a bank holiday here, got my mechanic to enable it in vcds today so just need to put them in now.

About 2 weeks Eugene, Ordered on a sunday arrived the friday of the week after (10 days)

So if I want to plug and play on my FL, I can get the BoldSport lights, right? I just run the cables and plug into the module near the fuse box and then code it in? Cheers.

Guys, after trying to break open the connectors on a golf to get the snap-in spade connectors inside so I just plug them straight into my octy loom, that set looks like it's already got them fitted on so hopefully for you guys it's just a case of chucking in and coding it up!

When you've fitted, let us know if it really is that simple or if there's any problems. Looks like a plug n' play winner though. :)

That's exactly what I did.

Removing trim & cutting holes (for the front footwell lights housing) was the hard part.

The rears already has footwell cutouts under the back of the front seats.
