Footwell Lights

Featured Replies

Started by removing the ashtray and holder, Fed the wires to both sides of the front console, and up under the dash,

Lifted the plastic trim along the front door sills without actually removing then,

slipped the cable in and under the carpet just at the fronts of the two seats to the slot where the heated seats wires run, and popped the plastics back in place.

Popped the seat ones in to place as holes were already there for them and cut under dash for both front ones.

Simple job.

Quick question:

I won't be seeing my mate with VCDS until later this year. If I plug these in, will they not work until he programmes them or stay on ridiculously bright or what?? Wondering if I need to leave that last connection undone until just before he gets his mitts on it?

You can wire them up they just won't do anything, I wired mine up (FL) and they did nothing until I coded them.

Cool. Cheers. No hurry to wire them in then! lol

The opposite actually

Get them wired in and wait for the coding, That is what I did.

As said above, they will just sit there doing nothing until coded.

Exactly, that's why there's no rush cos they won't do anything.

And then when you have the coding done you will kick yourself for not having the lights pre installed LOL :D

:wall:

I don't think you understand. I'm gonna wire them in BEFORE I get the coding done, but since that ain't gonna happen for ages, there's no rush to do the wiring in the next few weeks. :)

Gotcha.!

I just ordered the kit from ebay.ie

Its for my FL estate, so what size/type of LEDs do I need for them? And do I need anything extra? Cheers.

They come complete with bulbs but if you want LED's I would think 501?

Not sure if you need canbus or not.

They are 501's. I put canbus LED's in mine but there is an option when coding to turn off the footwell monitoring so in theory you could get away with non canbus.

alberg,

I got my footwell lights sorted >>>>

all thanks to you !

I have a few problems though ... the footwell lights come up on the maxidot and i can also change the brightness when the door is open (i.e. they work perfectly in sync with the interior lights)

HOWEVER,

when i code it in vcds to work with the terminal 58d active ---- they only work at full brightness and also I can't change their brightness (not even in VCDS)

What do you think could be the problem ?

Any help would be great

Thanks

Hi,

Did you ever sort this as I'm getting the exact same in that I cannot change the brightness in adaption via VCDS. I get an error stating the channel is unavailable.

Cheers

Could someone let me know what size 501 they use? Thanks.

Std 5W 501 / W5W / + other codes they go by.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I fitted the China EBAY set and as everyone else has said perfect. I have soldered in the LED bulbs as the holders are slightly too small. Nice little mod.

  • 4 weeks later...

Going to be doing my shortly. Just to confirm, I have a 2009 FL, so I'm looking for a white modular connector? I need to use Pin 50? But are they labelled?!

Yes they are labeled (the numbers are pretty small) and being a FL you should have the latter connectors on the CECM

Ordered another set myself,

Hope I will get to enjoy them for longer this time :D

Right o. Sounds like i can manage all that.
