  • Its never a good feeling when you plunge your dipstick into the hole and it comes out dry...... I can understand the frustrations of thos owners with an issue. When you bag yourself a new/low milea

  • I will ask about the oil breather system before they do any major mechanical works, I will post tomorrow afternoon when I am back from the dealer.

  • Actually there was an amusing (and shocking for me!) confession some time ago when I was repeatedly asking how come you post so much cr@p about the vRS if you've never had one? At least us, we're shar

Yeah I expect the clincher will be a lack of oil use... I'm presuming that's how you tell anyway

Had my annual serivice on Friday by my local dealer, was told they have had 5 Fabia vRS with oil issues.1 was a new engine, 1 was rings and the other 3 were breather pipe fixes..Anyhow they are doing the oil consumption trial on mine now for the next 300miles...Was a bit gutted to be told this as i'd supplied my own oil and would have prefered them to use Quantum for the test, as no doubt they will refill it with Quantum (no pleasing some people) :S

What's Bad

With DSGs, protective software can delay the message from brake switch to ECU that brakes have been released, allowing car to enter a junction or roundabout on the fuel in the combustion chambers, then momentarily shut off mid-junction.

What to Watch Out For

28-5-2011: There seems to be a problem of tinkling noises from 1.4 TSI engines. Google <1.4 TSI engine failure>, but the posts date back to 2008. One failure was at 80,000km. Others ahve heard tinklings at as little as 3,000 miles. Some owners who have had their cars chipped by Revo to 226PS are having problems, but that isn't really surprising, is it? As far as I can gather it's a timing chain / timing chain tensioner problem. The chains stretch, probably because they are not being properly lubricated, and that's probably because owners are not changing the engine oil and filters frequently enough.

28-11-2011: Numbers of piston failures of superchargerd/turbocharged 1.4TSIs seem to be increasing. Thought to be due to a fuelling problewm that washies lube oil off one of the bores.

8-8-2012: Report of 13k mile 2011 VRS doing 35mpg and drinking oil. Diagnosed as needing new piston rings.

Recalls

3-7-2012: www.autoevolution.com reports We have been informed that owners of Euro-spec VW cars (Polo, Golf and Scirocco) are reporting similar problems to the ones that caused a massive recall in China (500,000-strong). The issue has been reported in France, where owners of the aforementioned cars started reporting hearing strange noises coming from the gearbox, which lead them to believe that there may be a design flaw which wears the mechanisms inside it prematurely.

The culprit is VW’s latest twin-clutch setup, the seven-speed DSG7, which reportedly makes the ‘strange noises’ when shifting from 4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st, inside the car. However, outside, a different sound is audible, a metallic and repetitive sound which is made when the car goes over speed-bumps. Whatever it is, it sounds serious, especially since owners first began to hear it “a few weeks after delivery” (of the car) - nothing should wear out that quickly.

Also, since the problem in China was never really solved, as they just increased the warranty coverage to 10 years, it will be interesting to see how VW handle this problem in a market very close to home - France. Furthermore, the angry group of French VW owners claim that Seat, Skoda and Audi drivers are also reporting the same problems, so If this report turns out to be accurate, it will spark further outrage and may dent VW’s famed ‘bulletproof’ reliability record.

Did they carry out the oil consumption test on your car? Can I ask how much oil was consumed during the test? Thanks.

yes they did the test, as to how much i never really asked, they just said it was using too much oil and its took since march till now to get a potential fix. only time will tell if it is indeed the fix

My car goes in on October the 4th for the replacement breather system and a software remap/upgrade. BUT I have come home tonight and the wife told me the car isn't right, it is slow.

I have taken it for a spin and she is correct, the car seems sluggish not very responsive, if you stab the throttle usually it goes like a stabbed rat, but today it chugs and hesitates, once the rpm is over 4500 it goes okish but not 100%.

Question is, has the oil issue got anything to do with it? Is it because I used supermarket petrol? (can of worms opening...) or is it something else to add to the issue list and or will the car just stop or can I drive it until 4th October when it goes to the dealer anyway?

Thanks

Vacuum leak?

my fabia vrs was bought new 18 months ago, used oil pretty much from day one, had oil consumption test done by skoda and is in for new rings and oil breather mod, car has been in for 3 weeks now after being told was a 3 day job. master tech was on a course, then had family issues, then waiting on parts etc etc. have logged my complaint with skoda uk and i am just waiting to see what happens when i eventually get the car back whether its fixed or not.

Hope you get it sorted soon. That's just a fecking joke :wonder:

I think what they were getting, as I hope by now the issue is rectyfied, were much bigger level of bore liners deformation for whcih no amount of rings replacements can cater. Hence reports of engines going in for new rings, coming back and having even worse problems...

So a design/material spec & strenght issues here.

Other issue could be possibly wrong breaking-in factory dyno process where they failed to bed the rings properly resulting in the engines drinking as much oil as petrol (overexaggeration of coures ). In this case rings replacement would work.

One think nobody mentioned is the fact that if your engine burns oil your catalyst gets rather clogged and in the really bad cases would have be replaced. You may try to run your car in high reve range for sustained period of time (not when its brand new and only ater it reached full working temps) to try and burn the oil off in high temps this way. Mind you, I am not sure about this method as it may high temp oil burning by-products completely wrecking your catalyst.

I think it would be good, as a general note, for all the peope who had their cars for repairs due to high oil consupmtion to report back and let the rest of us know the score?

Cheers

Jabo

Back to the drawing board then ! , as mentioned above catalyst may need attention replacing

well i was informed by skoda uk that the breather pipe had arrived (finally, must of came by donkey from khazakstan!) and then arnold clark informed me yesterday that the master tech was just finishing another job and would be cracking on with mine after he had finished. so far heard nothing today. going away on holiday on saturday and meant to be driving circa 250 mls to get to the airport, not hopeful of getting the car back before then and wouldnt be confident in driving it that distance after just getting it back after a full rebuild. will keep this thread updated.

Mr hat shouldn't they provide you with a loan until car is back ?

Yep, mine is one.. Car booked to go back again

Sales of goods act 1979 - part 2 - section 14 is ringing bells to me, and is the reason i now have a octavia tdi :)

Quite right Rob vrs http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1979/54/section/14. About 10 years ago when i worked in electrical retail the company i worked for were replacing and repairing free of charge up to 5 years after contact rom trading standards etc. It takes a while but if mines not sorted then this is the route im going down. Already fired up and i will make as much noise to get this sorted out.

They never questioned it with mine, i just sent a letter explaining all my issues and that it did not meet that legislation and they just rang me and said pick a new car. They refused a full refund for me though and i refused a same replacement vehicle as i had a lot more issues than just the engine, but the dealer said to me i would of had every right to reject the car with just the engine.

Any question about my experience id be happy to help,

iv had a courtesy car from the dealer since its been in for the work (4 weeks) they called me yesterday to advise engine fully rebuilt and running and they had tested it on the road and seemed to be fine but wanted to check cold starts etc today still waiting to hear the outcome hoping to get it back tomorrow.

Keep us posted and good luck with your now hopefully fixed ride!

Rob, perhaps you could do write-up and post it as a new subject describing your car problems and how it panned out including you getting a replacement new car?

Cheers mate.

Had a read, interesting, more so points of view of different people in the subject.
