If you could only change ONE thing...what would it be?

Featured Replies

The rough clutch due to the Dual Mass Flywheel, would be top of my list, but given that I can barely believe it is designed to be so cruddy & I sincerely hope Skoda are embarrased to the roots, I'm going to nominate something else. Now, I'm torn between a longer timing belt service interval (e.g. the one they promised me when I bought the car would be good), a siren that isn't a service replacement part at around six years old, or, my personal gripe: the auto wipers: Just give me that chance to use the old intermittent setting please.

And Skoda, please consult me on good ergonomics next time. An accelerator foot rest and cruise control is a dangerous combo. A Speedo and Rev Counter with numbers orientated around the dial is not much use: my head stays upright at whatever speed/rpm. And do gauges for low to high (Temperature or Fuel Quantity) really work as well on their side? - No.

  • I'd change the lottery ticket in the glove box to a winning one.

  • Automatic folding mirrors for me as well I reckon. Or a tailgate that doesn't get the boot contents wet when you open it after rain.... Well, apart from the 3.0TDI VAG unit that you can't fit under t

I wish there was another notch is in the seat slider, half way between the "slightly too far" and "slightly closer than id like to be" settings... either that or i need to get driving shoes with thicker/thinner soles!

I quite like this little addition, saves the sticky deposits left behind by those pay and display parking tickets.

+1. Great gadget. Parking tickets / work permit. The Eastern European car washers snapped it off recently & I was straight back down to the dealer for another one (which they kindly fitted at no cost). Got the next car wash for free too!

(Stream MP3) The radio reception is rubbish and the sound very poor (in comparison to my last car, a Hyundai Coupe with a £100 Sony replacement head unit).

have installed the power booster thingy on your antenna feed? apparently its a necessity (so ive read here a few times ;-) ) to make a replacement head unit work..

I don't have a replacement headunit on my Octavia - I have the Stream MP3. But is a power booster also a common upgrade even when using a stock stereo?

Didnt know the Stream was factory jobby on the Mk2.

I think the antenna power booster is built into the factory fit head unit,

it was on the mk1 's from what ive read.

Im sure there's a more knowledgable brain here somewhere to confirm that tho :-)

I wish the car wouldn't cut the fuel when you touch the brakes. I don't want to do left foot braking but I would like to dry my brakes after I've been through a deep puddle. Minor flooding on roads is pretty common around me.

A mileometer that's always visible. Not just when stationary.

I'd settle for 400000000000mpg.

Or time travel.

If you are going to change something make it something big!

You could raise or lower the seat, as that moves it forward and back to a certain extent ...

As a new owner only having covered around 400 miles, the only thing I currently have a gripe with is the bridgestones fitted at the factory. Not as noisy as I had feared, acceptable, but not as quiet as one would like !

The mileometer not showing is more of an oddity than an annoyance for me.

What do you mean about the mileometer? Mine shows okay, and if you press the button on the speedo it changes to the car's overall mileage, or back to the trip mileage.

It seems a random thing ednmra, a few have said it does like yours, and a few us of it seems the button doesnt do anything except reset trip if held in. It shows trip while moving, only when stationary does it show the cars mileage.

Bleeding awful clutch feel probably due to the DMF.

Drivers Door card, make it strong enough to put my right elbow on without denting it,

+1 totally uncool driving without your arm on the top of the door card

Oh and the thing I dislike most is the dam engine cover on my TFSI incorperating it into the flimsy airbox is a totally s#it idea!

Actually, I've just realised, something I'd like changed even more.

Ditch the EGR system totally. I'm fine buying adblu to put in as long as I don't have to decoke the engine every so often.

Firstly I am very happy with my car but if could improve it i'd like......

1) A Maxidot with more data displayed & one you can tweak yourself.

2) 2 USB chargers in Jumbo box & 2 in the rear of the car (for the kids devices)

3) Card holder for CDT cards or parking tickets etc...

4) Cruise control I can increase in 5mph incriments (for each long press) an overtake assist on long cruises.

5) MFSW as standard - it's a vRS - come on...

6) Intergral Hardrive (32 GB) in Stereo & USB port (hidden) for data transfer. For the future, an infotainment system (option extra upgrade) with tethering capabilites for web access

7) Key less Start/Stop

8) Heated front windscreen would be damn handy

9) Wing mirror blind spot indicators (like the Mercs have - little red LED's on the edge of the mirror)

10) Finally an iluminated door sils so vRS welcomes me in at night!

Hope I haven't gone over the the top

Mark - HWMBO - agree with much of your list, but the OP said ONE thing you'd like to change!

Fair point - I got carried away! If I had to choose 1 it would be the heated front windscreen.

After much thought (as am very happy with Nelly):

Adaptive cruise control, so I don't have to go through all the effort of changing speeds when I catch up with BMWs and Jags hogging the outside lane. ;)

Yes, would love adaptive cruise!

I'd change my rain (in)sensitive wipers for intermittent ones.  I'm sick of constantly adjusting the sensitivity which seems to change entirely on a whim.

The brakes! mine are in good condition & working fine but dont seem to inspire confidence on a fast run out,my mk1 octy vrs had much better brakes.
