Do it!

Back int day, when I wor a lad (i.e. 2009), I acquired a Gilera Runner 125 2-stroke. Did my CBT and used it to and from college. Not so good round the country rounds where I live, but absolutely cracking round town, such fun! Especially after I had a 172cc head bolted to it which in 2T terms made a hell of a difference. I loved that scoot :'(

Then I had a Kawasaki Eliminator. Comortable bike, but I hate cruiser style bikes and I was lucky if I went a week without it breaking down.

Then I went and passed my mod one and two and bought a Honda CB500T - What a trojan! Cracking bike and easily fast enough for my taste.

Then, I went on to pass my car test and said bye bye to that lovely Honda and hello to a tatty old Skoda. To be honest, I nearly killed myself on it more than enough times, so in a way I'm glad to have got rid of it. I was stupid with that thing.

Do it!

I did start a project thread on the net, however i broke my arm when the KTM decided to throw me off the back :o....Therefore it never got updated towards the end!

I'll be looking for a new project very soon. Thinking of a CB twin road bike. So enjoyable creating something you've built :)

I think we all have our own lil ways when we are hiding in our lids.

Check out Eugene Laverty he has a guide for breaking in new leathers.

ooooo - the next door neighbours have a Basketball hoop mounted outside their garage - wonder if they'd notice if I attempted a few chin-ups :notme: - my leathers could do with a little softening :D

Oh forgot to add this ages ago its one of my favourite youtube videos of all time its 15 minutes long but is seriously worth it its a quality story about an old Norton that has been lying up for years and the owners 2 sons decide to have it refurbished for the old timer as a surprise his reaction is fantastic and any biker will appreciate it make it full screen and full HD 1080p and enjoy.

Awesome Vid :) Inspirational stuff. I love on any sunday, and.. yes. I'm 21. Born too late. haha

only 21 a perfect age to start riding on the mean streets and back roads young enough to have many years enjoyment andnot so young that you would be too silly. ZZR600 is a fantastic sneaky bike that many overlook was the first 16valve twin cam bike and in USAGES its called the zx6r anyway. Mid 2000s year ones had the newest from with the more modern twin lights front you get a full dash on all of them good failing protection does 165mph easy has a fuel gauge and a centre stand plenty of space under seat too such a flexible bike.

Look at first post in here for pic of my old ZZR600

Cheers FUBAR, seen your bike.. absolute minter by the looks of things.

The reasons above are precisely why I want one, it's a ZX6R without the silly insurance and hooligan name. Insurers don't bat an eye lid at ZZR600 'sports tourer' but sh1te a brick upon hearing 21 Years old, 0 bike NCB & ZX6R or NINJA! :bandit:

My point is the ZZR has very usable power delivery but will still absolutely scare me to death if ridden hard, detuned to suit 99% of riders. Realistically I'm rarely going to be exploiting the top end of the bike's power especially after passing my test and really if I was I'm not going to notice the extra 7bhp down on the ZX6R.

Probably not when weighing up that the bike cost £1000 less, insurance I can do in my own name cheaper than a named rider on a ZX6R and most examples are far better looked after by the right sort of people that you'd want to buy from. (I'm awfully particular)

The bike is lower so more stable and less likely to have a low speed hiccup (of course it's going to happen) and is far more practical for commuting on too.. I wouldn't feel bad about racking up serious mileage on such a beast. Also very understated looks so unlikely to attract the wrong crowd. Looks like a pillion could enjoy being on the back too!

Don't suppose you know of any info sites or forums etc? I've had a search but can't seem to find much, it looks as if bikes aren't as well catered for in terms of owners clubs probably purely down to how little people own them.

Best would prob be try a Facebook groupe for ZZR600 and pick the one with the most members there are ZZR specific ones but don't seem to be any more active than each other. Meant to say riding position is different too its a lot more comfy especially for pillion, you can still get down over tank and it will do 85mph in 2nd gear! Plenty for a first bike!! Also very very importantly it is a very forgiving bike and shouldn't catch yourself out too easily on it. You will have more BHP per Ton than a Bugatti Veyron aswell around 550BHP per Ton. I think at 23 I paid for first years insurance 0 NCB bikes day after test £271 then renewal was £85! The bike will get on a long run 55mpg easy too so its superb best thing with a 600 is if your wanting to thrash it do a track day etc you will be winding up the engine to 16000 rpm great feeling :D .

Reliable too a lot of people use them to commute due to flexibility and threw winter etc no dramas.

You've manage to summarize everything about the ZZR600 in a few sentences. Probably this is one of the BEST overall bikes on the market today. You could pick one with low mileage and good history for under £1200.00 for the performance you getting this is silly money.

It is one of the many bikes lots of previous owners come out with the lines "I should never have sold it" and "I would buy another tomorrow" but tbh it is something I have heard from everyone who has ever owned one. The insurance thing is the icing on the cake big time (sports tourer my hole!)

Better again surly where sensors are not required in first place :D

Very true.

Gone are the days when the old mechanics would use their ear, a long thin screwdriver and a piece of plastic tube to balance carbs.

The good ones could do it more accurately than any vacuum gauge too.

The old boy that used to set up the SU carbs on my tuned mini could pick a pair of needles to match the carbs to the characteristics of the reworked engine too, all without a dyno or electronic wizardry.

I really miss true motor engineers. They knew exactly what was going on, unlike these so called technicians who just plug in a diagnostic device which says "no fault found" so there cannot be anything wrong .

Yeah, I know what you mean. Modern stuff is just so much more fiddly to work on too. A valve clearance check on my old '92 TDM850 took a couple of hours, on my '09 TDM900 it's half a days work just to strip everything off to get at the rocker cover. Tweaking the fueling with software is a lot easier than changing jets though.

Mind you there's some benefit of this modern technology, my Octavia produces 170bhp from the same sized diesel engine my 306 used to manage 90bhp from :D

Well got my bike back today and it flew through it's MOT, not bad considering it's not been used in 18 months. Now need to sort insurance and tax, oh and some nice weather :swear:

Need to get some tracktime booked and get myself upto speed again. The old bones will be in for a shock...

Good stuff get the cob webs blown away. I went for a wee ride today and involved a little autobahn but it was VERY windy 130mph was the top and 110 was about safest speed. Saw only 2 other bikers out and followed them for a bit until they were not going my way anymore.

We need a Briski rid out :D

Ive got a ZXR400 SP

Its a 1995 zxr400L but an import SP model so has the factory single seat race unit, flat slide carbs, close ratio gearbox, adjustable rear damper and even a slipper clutch. It was the road going version of the racing bike.

Great bike and can keep up with the big boys in the twisty sections.

Problem is now i'm getting a bit older its not a comfortable bike for someone whos over 6FT. Not to mention I cant find anyone who can set up and tune the flat slide carbs good enough.

It's shameful to say but it hasnt moved for the last 2 years so it needs a full overhaul before going back on the road. One day i'll get round to it. It's always on my mind but the only guy I can find who knows his stuff is in North Wales and its a full days travel just to get the bike to him and do I really want to spend money on such an old bike????
