Iv only just discovered this part of the forum though!

Attached is my sv650s. Not the fastest bikes on the road, but i love it for its midrange torque and agility in the corners :).

Been riding for 4 years now.

My dads got a 12 plate BMW r1200gs adventure triple black. He doesnt ride it too much, but when he does hes off around Europe on it.

Thought id add that last bit in because its relevant to the last page of the thread! Haha.

Well, that must be the cleanest sv I've ever seen and the colour really suits it....must be race blue metallic LOL.

Unfortunately its twonks like him that give bikers a bad name. A second quicker and he'd have had the car head on and because of the impact that would have probably gone over the edge too. On the plus side its one of the best vids I've seen to encourage any potential or existing bikers to do some advanced training who haven't already done so. Wonder if he had fully comp and what the insurance claim said if he did!

Thankyou :).

Im one of those people that likes things perfect or i wont buy it. So you can imagine it took me a while to find a 11 year old bike that i was happy to buy haha. That was 2 years ago now though, n iv loved it ever since :). Wouldnt mind an sv1000 though ;).

Haha. I reckon he'll go abit slower next time, or atleast not get ahead of himself. I reckom the bike would have gone round given a better line and a better rider haha.

Its always happening on that road though. Seen it a million times.

Bit of a midlife crises, had a 125 yamaha when they were 17, not had a bike since. Drive a rep mobile mondeo during the week. Turn 45, fancy another so go out amd buy an R1. Take it to the cat and fiddle because its a well known biker road. Try to ride it flat out, mis-read a corner and crash.

Theres one particular corner coming out of buxton. About the third corner, and it tightens up slightly. Seems tp catch em all out.

The chief instructor had a favourite saying when I did my advanced in 19coff. In slow, out fast, in fast out feet first......

You need to pinch the keys to the beemer off your old man.

I always ride slow in fast out. Its defo the best way.

Going in too fast, losing your line, going on the wrong side of the road then actually going slower, isnt my style haha. Seen it done plenty of times following people though.

Hmm i could easily pinch the keys mate, but it wouldnt help me touch the floor haha. Im 90% sure itd just fall over, i just cant reach the floor much at all haha.

Theres always the low seat option and shifting onto 1 cheek. There's a young lady with a GS on the bm forum and she says she can get her feet down on her chaps GSA if she puts her low seat on it and drops the suspension so theres no excuses!

Dilemma, I've toured the dealers and decided that the cruiser lifestyle isn't for me so some advice needed. I'm going to test drive all these but wanted the general feeling from the group, the wish list is:

Triumph Trophy SE

Triumph Sprint GT

BMW K1600 GTL

Yamaha FJR1300AS

My heart is shouting Triumph Trophy but my head says BMW, but what the general opinion?

Is that lady taller than me? Haha. Im about 5 foot 10, but my legs seem to be about 2ft of that height haa.

I could shuffle onto one cheek, but im not sure id be confident enough to take the weight, and its his pride and joy.

Also, i dont have £15k or whatever they are to buy him a new one when i make a mess of it haha.

I dont like the idea of a cruiser either!

I think id have the Triumph sprint out of those (if you dont need the extra space of the trophy), closely followed by the BMW and then the Trophy :).

I think the Yam is a lower class bike. Doesnt seem as well built or as good quality to me, compared to the others

What sort of riding are you going to do and what floats your boat/ what sort of pace do you ride at. Tourer wise the BMW R1200RT is worth a look as its quite nimble for a tourer but has all the 'advantages'

Well I'm 5'7" and can get 2 feet down (balls and toes) on a standard GS with the seat on the low position IF I've got thick soled boots on she is shorter than me but I'm not prepared to say by how much. Go on nick the keys....whats the worst that could happen, or test ride1 1st...

I've got a 90th Anniversary GSA as my "Daily Driver" :) I'm used to be up the Cat and Fiddle a lot until the clamp down due to bell end weekend warriors.

In fact, here is Number One son admiring his new lid, ready for our run down to Italy via Grossglockener and the Stelvio this August :)

The W800 is morphing nicely, Hyde M-Bars, Open Peashooters, LSL Rearsets and a Clubman seat now along with some other tweaks to put the power at a hedonistic 70 ish BHP, great fun though

Haha. Hmm maybe i need some really thick soled boots ;).

Its his pride n joy i cant nick the keys hahs.

Im more likely to get a ride on a new vfr800 than anything i think.

Im only 21. Far too young to be riding a big bike like the GS. I need faster times first i think haha

That would get my vote to, R1200RT Ticks all the boxes, a  brilliant do it all bike :)

That looks very nice indeed!

Are you tempted for the new water cooled one then?

I think my dads going to wait a few years. Get rid of any teething problems n that.

He test rode a normal water cooled GS and said it was lovely. Much faster n that, but the gearbox was soo clunky. It completely put him off buying one all together.

They have ruined the cat and fiddle yeah. I rarely ride it on the bike anymore. I dont enjoy it cos of the speed cameras. I take the short cut instead.

Good stuff. keep her lit! You will be fit to come over to Ni for the NW200 on 2 wheels then :D

Who's seen this? Slight miss judgement!

Already been posted mate see #1574. He's still a donut who doesn't know how to ride a bike though!

Sorry missed that....but you're right he's a donut a very lucky one  :whew:

Ah it was here I saw it, when the thread about it opened in the roadside hotel I was trying to think where I had seen it before, too many blows to the head I think  :(

No worries. As you say very lucky. The vid above posted by Fubar showing how you can easily be caught out being a prime example I guess. On a slightly lighter note and a little off topic have you seen the Lambo bentadoor biff in London on utube. Left hand drive so probably some rich boy over for the ramadam rush trying to impress his female passenger.

I can't post the link from my tablet but search Ventdor crash-moment of impact.... and turn the sound up!

What touring tyre are people recommending nowadays? Having not bought bike tyres for about 6 years things have moved on since I last needed any. It was all Mich PR2 then, even though I fitted them to my gixxer 750 and IMO they were carp.

I was thinking of giving Pirelli Angel GT a go. What do people reckon? This is for a FZ6.

JB.

There isn't a bad tyre out there nowadays.

The only question is what do others use/suit them.

In all my tyre buying days I have in the end, kept to one make of tyre, that's only cos they suit me.

Avons, for the past 6 years.

Had Conti's, not impressed at all. Mich' don't like. Metzler's ok.

Now running Avon Storm Ultras. Good tyre in the wet as well. Good mileage.

Will certainly go for the Avon's again whatever the new ones will be.

Whatever new tyre you fit, will always be better than the last ones you had on....cos it's new!
