When I had the Z1000SX in storage for a few months from summer heat riding it over from Holland in bit temps etc to dumping it under a cover in the back of a barn and left into winter when I finally got back to it (was meant to be 3 weeks.....) Took her out down some really dodgy lanes to get back to civilisation had dropped like 8psi JESUS the difference, it was like riding a tank!

Yamaha Dark Side event at the National Motorcycle Museum was excellent and a a good half hour stunt show by Dave Coates Yamaha Stunt rider.

(He has riden at 152 mph backwards !)   Quad stunts were also impressive.

Hope to win an MT-07 but would not mind wating to buy one next year at that price.  Needs a pillion bar as they complain that both the bikes do not have any grab rails and as the both have a prepencity for the front wheel to go light that is a bit terrifying for the pillion without achor points to hold on to.

Thanks Yamaha for starting to produce bikes that are not race replicas for the vertically challenged, stylish and not stupidly price after importing from the expensive Yen to the poor old pound!

That depends, if I was behaving myself then yes, on Sunday.

If not then no, it must have been someone else. (it was still me but I'm admitting nothing.)

I did go to the new forest meet and I did have my panniers on.

Did the rider match the bike? My leathers have green in em.

Ah this was on the Saturday, looks like you have a copy-cat out there.

Aaah damn.

Well next time you see one with panniers it will be easy to see if its me

or not....

And there's no doubt my bike and kit match :p

That said, just got a plain black Hein Gericke two piece

from ebay for £20 :D

More of a tourer style though, I'll wear them for longer rides for comfort

and keep the RST stuff for when I'm having a quick blat for an hour or two.

If I take the van to cardiff to collect them the diesel will cost me as much

as the leathers plus £12.80 for the bridge.

If the weathers fine I'll stick the panniers on and collect them

by bike for a tenners worth of petrol instead and no toll on the bridge.... :)

It used to be cheaper for me to take the bike too.

The vfr barely touches 40mpg (on a good day) though. N the car can get 50mpg on a trip.

So its all gone back to front for me haha.

I still prefer to take the bike wherever i can!

What did you get for £20?? waterproofs?

Nope, leathers. :D

Got them for the starting bid of 20 quid but they were there as a buy it now for £60

which was still cheap IMO. Spotted them last night and thought I'd hold out for the auction.

Got to keep your eye out for the rest of us too lol

What can I say?

I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment..

I've saved bundles on ebay on gear just lately but have seen a

jacket I like recently that will be a full whack purchase but still reasonable at 140quid.

I get so hot in the leathers sometimes. We've had some cracking weather lately but I

reckon I can stretch to one of these as well.. Love the design and the tech of the garment.

Is there a  reason why your looking at leather over textile clothing?

Value of own skin.

Textiles are getting better and better though.

I much prefer decent textiles to leathers. So much more practical.

What sat navs are you guys using?

Im just looking at the moment, but i want a half decent motorcycle sat nav for my vfr. However i dont want to spend a silly amount of money on it.

Theyre all soo expensive. Seems ridiculous

I have average textiles and mega mega textiles and alright and good leathers. Problem is that you can get better protection for your money from leathers by getting an average set over cheaper textiles. The money you have to spend on textiles to get half the slide protection is scary! Textiles with proper armour under are a very good way to go though. The amount of slide time you have on textiles though is measured in milliseconds rather than seconds with leathers.

My fav bit of bike gear is a textile jacket I got a few years ago, it also cost more than my first set of textiles ,gloves, boots, lid and my pikey cheap leathers I got at the start combined. More comfy and can carry loads of crap in it's 2.3 million pockets inc waterproof ones and it has kept me bone dry in tsunami level conditions!  But Ieather will always promote a greater survival chance and quicker recovery in an off.

This is in German but pics and prices etc if you scroll through show the idea of what I mean. http://www.endurowanderer.de/pdf/kombitest.pdf

I don't get the bike ones at all with the pricing. You can get a mount/case to hold any car sat nav and just use that, only thing then is no hearing it really (some have 3.5mm jack though). Only time I have ever used a sat nav on a bike I have just had my car on in map compartment of tank bag and it turned off. I turn it on at the end of a day when I am looking for a camp site or if I am bricking it about fuel I will stop and use it to see what my best option is. Looking at a map before you set off is the cheapest method and carry it with you for detours.

Re.. Textiles/Leathers.

The slide protection wasn't something I had thought about when looking for clothing. I suppose it also comes down to the riding you intend todo too.  Most (95%)  of my riding is below 55mph (my poor YBR doesn't like the uphills in the Peak District) & usually under 35miles per trip, without becoming complacent in my journey & changing my route often helps keep the mind sharp and focused on the road/hazards ahead.

But, after seeing that article and a quick google, when I get my next bike & ride larger distances I'll get a set of leathers. In the mean time my textiles seem ok (only an accident will tell how good they are & I don't intend to find out) although my little 15mph-20mph slide last month shows very little in the way of marks on my jacket/trousers :)

Re.. Satnav's

If your not too worried about fuel stations/points of interest etc, would you consider a Garmin/Bryton cycling unit?

My Bryton50 copes well on the odd routes I've used it for on my motorbike, admittedly its a small screen and your route ideally needs to be planned and loaded onto it (it does calculate when out but might add a bridle way or cycle route into the calculations :) ) but the battery life is great (8+ hours) and it fits in your pocket easily (ideal when filling up or nipping into a shop).

Mine has also prooved to be very water resistant & shock resistant over the last 2years as I used it for commuting all year round on and I've also used it for touring/mountain biking etc and now it also gets used on my motorbike for a clock & GPS speedo

My nav.... £429 free updates for life, I did a little write up a while back in the thread

see post #1927   on this page of the thread

As for why leather?? The Mrs likes it :p besides as a guitarist of over 20 years and a drummer of

about 7 years I've earned the right to wear leather...

It's amazing how the circumstances play such a big roll. When I came off at around 20mph on a tar&chipping road the surface is like a cheese grater, Leather trousers and race boots took some damage but held like heroes with my mangled leg trapped inside. But my jacket was a fairly expensive textile one I had just changed over to that day as it was warm, didn't really slide much at all but went through the material instantly and my elbow slipped off the armour inside and went down to the bone instantly. A nice wet high quality tarmac road you'd slide further but have a much easier time of it :D
