Finally hard wired in my Garmin last night.

I was a bit windy about stripping the bike down so much

to safely route the wiring but got over myself and got on with it.

I'm off out in a bit, mrs grr working late tonight.

She won't be home until 11pm.

I have a full tank of fuel already and now I also have NAV.....

I could literally end up anywhere and still be able to find my way home.

Researching a pub somewhere for a bit of dinner for one.

You mean because you have a sat nav now, you could end up 'anywhere':P

It's my first run out using it so experimental play really, getting the levels right etc.

As well as being bluetooth it has an 3.5mm jack for head phones

and another smaller one for a mic. which I've brought through under the seat

so can give the thing a try out with some old fashioned headphones.

I am after a wireless solution but not until after I know whats up with the car and how much

that's going to cost. I'm expecting a call on that today :( and I doubt it's going to be cheap.

I've also rigged up a kind of camera mount as well so I'll be trying some

experiments with a drive recorder app I have been playing with.

Might let it cool down a bit first, it's really warm and I just CBA getting all hot and

bothered getting all my leathers on and getting the bike through to the front

but the bike is out of the shed and ready to go.

Oh and I am far from home, I get lost real easily round here. I'm slowly piecing it

together but there's a lot of countryside out here to get lost in.

I'm looking forward to getting my bike down to my patch before the summers over.

There are a few roads round my old way I'd like to ride again for old times sake.

They are where I started my night time rides when i was but a nipper on my moped at

16 years old. Good times!

What's up with the car Garry?

I am just back in, get out there now! 28DegC and even when cruising along the air felt hot lol :D on my 3rd can of pop since falling back in the door.

Still don't know for sure.

Don't really want to hear if I'm honest.

It's dumped all its oil via a leak, engine bay coated,

either clutch or aux belt slipping due to oil contamination.

Revs running up to 3k ish then dropping off until the anti stall

kicks in then the process repeats ad infinitum.

It decided to do this two miles from our Hotel in Windermere after driving up

from Bristol for the first stop on our uk roadtrip.

Long story short refilled engine oil and turned back home again.

Nearly 500 miles driven that day. 9 and a half hours at the wheel

Oh and engine management light came on on the way home as well.

Kin thing!! Am sick of it.

I am just back in, get out there now!

Just getting my kit together now Fubar :)

Good lad :D

*******s that doesn't sound good.

A nice ride out and some good pub grub will help clear the head.

Counting down the hours till I can get home at 6. Say a quick hello to the kids then im going straight out on the bike

Stay safe guys

What does everyone else wear in this heat? I've got textile trousers and jacket but jesus they're hot. They are both waterproof so maybe that isnt helping, is there such a thing as summer textiles? Still offer decent protection but reasonably breathable? My mate has leathers that have lots of tiny little wholes in so once he's moving he's cool but until I've shifted some weight I'm not spending £500 on a set.

I am paranoid after having my leg only held on by a bit of skin so as on that day which kept it attached (ONLY JUST) full race boots and leather trousers, Kevlar mesh jacket (same one as that fateful day) and some nice comfy gloves. Oh and a good lid with internal tinted drop down visor. Kevlar mesh type jackets absolutely RULE! going along today in the heat it really is good to have basically full airflow on chest if you sit upright ahhhhhhhhhh. But the legs I tend to stick with full on leathers and boots personally. I have kevlar trousers etc too but they are more flappy and annoying than the leathers and I have vented inner thigh and crotch in them so sod it.

ps, after some of the bumpy assed roads I was on today a jock strap may be on order!  :|  :x

I'm in full zipped together RST leathers, Forcefield back protector, Weise summer gloves(Kangaroo leather so v thin, but high quality, my hands are my living)

Dainese Biker socks (These are BRILLIANT imo), Spada Predator boots, (very happy with these too, don't get sweaty or damp at all)

Karrimor base layer longsleeve tee shirt (wicks away moisture and is light and comfy, helps getting the leathers on too but keep away from velco

it snags really easy) and nice clean pants because you never know :)  Its damn hot moving about but once you get going on the bike it's lovely.

I always shower before and after as well. I never put dirty hair in my lid and I usually wear some kind of wax or gel day to day

so I wash it clean before a ride. I'm keeping it a bit shorter as well at the moment, that helps a bit.

Also I make sure my front jacket pockets are empty and then I open them and run with them unzipped.

They act like extra air intakes/exhausts and make a bit of difference. My leathers are VERY snug so

there's no danger of anything flapping but the extra air coming in is very welcome.

The new back protector is perforated but covers more of my back so on balance it's no cooler

than the RST one that was in the back pocket of my jacket, it is however lower in profile

and quite flexible and moulds to your shape with body heat.

Sports direct do the Karrimor underlayer tops which really don't get damp pits like cotton does. 2 for 15 quid.

They do them in short and longsleeve and they have a mesh area under the armpits to give them a

fighting chance, I am wearing the smallest size S and they go up to bigger, 2xl maybe??  They are supposed to be

a snug fit, not baggy so maybe that will help, they certainly wash up okay and when you stop and take jacket off for

5 minutes it is instantly cooling you down, very refreshing to cool down on a little pub break. I have a blue one

and a black but will be off to get a pair of short sleeve ones as well.

.

The socks were about 13 quid and I'm ordering more. I like those, very comfy and anti bacterial and

almost impossible to get wet... even straight from the washing machine, barely damp. No irritating seams

and the elastic is good, they stay up. .

Oh and the Weise gloves are a short cuff so I get a little draught up the sleeves as well.

There's loads of decent short cuff gloves, I'm after a set of these next. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190981281215?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Wow you have some good ritual stuff going on there Mr G! I need to get some under layer stuff, I had loads of it but can't for the life of me think where it is! My only ritual of sorts is that I always put my right glove on first, no matter what! No idea why really just that it's the law, like radio in car volume must be on an even number :D

I wear my cycling base layers under my Buffalo Jacket, like Gary's, my jacket has small zips front & back so allow the air to flow nicely :) always wear my Buffalo trousers too (after my 1st fall I'm not going to take any chances).

Question to all.

This morning's ride home was interesting, thick fog, in places I could barely see 1m in front of the bike.  Whilst the fog didn't bother me, what did bother me was the mist/damp forming on my visor.  What do you use to keep the damp/mist etc running off your visor to keep your vision clear?

ps.. Had a lovely ride into work tonight, came over Langsett/Strines again, only this time took in a few smaller roads too, its the 1st time I've been late for work since I used to commute to work via public transport (over 9years ago)

The ritual is my way of not forgetting anything.

Have to get my head right before a ride.

Again that's part of why I shower beforehand just to wake myself up a bit

I use cooler water than I normally use for showering and a funky lime shower gel which has a

strong citrus smell which also livens me up a bit.

Back again, camera mount was a mixed success. It held my phone very well and it didn't drop out

of my home made mount.

Bad news is the vibration made it almost unwatchable.

I'll see if I can get a clip up on here.

Guess I'll have to buy a purpose made camera.... or rig up a chest mount.... Hmmmm :wonder:

Leather head to toe! Especially when I'm on the bike!!!!!

Alpine stars boots and armoured gloves having had a few ermmmm incidents I'm a bit paranoid!

Took out my mothers xt660r after servicing it today what a laugh, couldn't do it every day too gutless

As above with the camera mounts I've always found the best success using gaffer tape and cable ties on fairing braces, any mount I've used wobble and shake especially on a twin or single

I know it sounds bodgey but it does work, the camera I use is a £40 Kodak water proof job and it works a treat. I'll try and link my faceache video onto here

Edit

Won't work I'll upload one to YouTube

Ok at low revs but once my vibey twin starts its racket there's no chance

of making out any detail.

I had the same sort of distortion before on bike mounted cameras but only when mounted on bar ends and bike felt smooth as silk..... Perhaps anywhere on bars/yoke gets additional shudder. If that's your mobile, I wouldn't fancy carrying it there much the passive shock to it cannot be good for it.
