Christ mate. I bet your a riot at party's. I'm closer to 40 than 30 and don't appreciate being referred to as a kid, simply because I'm looking forward to getting my Blackline. In my opinion, kids d

+1 the bumpers are bloody terrible!

Every time I wash it now (to be fair it isnt that frequenty) I tend to find a new chip somewhere on the front bumper. Rest isnt too bad as have a white one and the body is white primed happily!

the most vulnerable panel on my car seems to be the offside front wing, must have got 1/2 a dozen of so chips on there now and car only has 2.5k on clock :wonder: bonnet and bumper hasn't really been effected, strange.. only motorway miles pick up chips though.

been a bit worried about my car the last couple of days, the other day I turned up at work and saw a cloud of white/light grey smoke puff out of my exhaust, I only drove approx 3.5miles to work. then just now got in from work and drove sensibly the 3.5 mile drive home and when I parked up I notice the fan going with engine off and temperature gauge up to operating temperature.. now usually my engine takes a bit longer than 8 minutes to reach full operating temperature. I opened bonnet to check oil and was stunned by the amount of heat coming from the turbo at the back of the engine and could hear it ticking as it was cooling down.

am I worrying about nothing?

Oil level is ok? Is it drinking any? Mine has done 7500 miles since new (last October) and hasn't drank a drop of oil.

I didn't mess about running her in gently gently. I've done that before with new cars and had problems. As soon as the engine was up to temp on this Blackline, if I needed to give it some beans - I did.

If it is a diesel, Marko, it was probably doing a regen of the DPF

yes it's a diesel Blackline, done 2600 miles now but I bought it 2nd hand with 1500 miles on clock so no idea how it was treat before me.. if it's doing a regen shouldn't there be some kinda notification on the dashboard or warning?

yes oil is fine.

Thanks, Mark.

A regen will not give any lights on the dash. Some times youll never notice it happening.

Will do if a series of passive regens havent done the job properly, will do a forced regen where the DPF light comes on and goes out when complete; in this scenario you shouldnt turn off the engine before it completes otherwise you'll potentially bork it and it'll need to go to the dealers.

Never seen this happen on any of my 3 VAG DPF equippes cars however.

Yep, what you have described is a passive regen, puff of white smoke and fans running after engine switched off (To cool the exhaust from the heat generated to burn off the soot).

May I suggest you take it for a good run on the motorway to clear the DPF. You should not then have a problem for a good while.

thanks for the info, it's put my mind at rest! it probably doesn't help that a lot of my mileage is just short trips to work..

I've had what you describe. You just need to be a bit more spirited in your driving, i use more of S mode on the DSG to keep it revvy

the problem is it's so damn torquey there just isn't a need to rev it so hard to make rapid progress!

Sure but what i'm describing is the fact that to help the car you need to have higher revs to generate the heat needed for a regen. MAke rapid progress however suits you. I'm just saying how i achieve little or no noticable regens.

I will try my best! with my old Audi 2.5td QS it did it the world of good to open it up once in a while, same 3.5mile commute and generally low usage..

Also smells a bit like the cars about to catch fire if you park up having interuppted one :-)

yes, exactly how it was! I wasn't aware it was having a regen though, will have to keep an eye on dashboard lights in future..

No dash lights for a passive regen, you will only get a dash light if you keep interrupting them.

No dash lights for a passive regen, you will only get a dash light if you keep interrupting them.

that could be a potential problem then in the future as it's not always obvious it's trying to regen and not always practical to keep the engine running at the time it decides to do a passive regen.

Lent it to me, no regen for my derv but I do 50 miles a day so more than happy to offer my services :)

Get this issue sometimes with Radio 1 but it only cuts out for about 5 seconds so I'm not gonna worry too much about it.

Am too busy enjoying my Blackline half the time.

Have loads of music on the sd card too so that keeps me entertained.
