To Put an End To All HID Legality Discussions!....

Featured Replies

An interesting read.

Apologies in advance if i start any "debates" :).

...<snip..>

That's an advert by Osram who make uprated bulbs but not HID kits. They're likely to be lobbying for HID kits to be illegal as HID kits potentially hit their sales. I'd be more impressed if someone came up with a way to reduce reflected glare from ANY HID equiped cars in wet weather!

The wider picture, I s'pose is more about overall modifying of vehicles and how and who validates and tests such mods. Ultimately, it can't all be done by the small garage/MOT station.

It basically says, when a HID kit is slapped into a normal halogen headlight it will glare everyone, and isnt legal. We all knew this before, some are happy blinding everyone else some arnt. Personal

Were all waiting for some decent pictures of some so we can see. The only ones posted were against a reflective/corrugated metal shutter so useless to compare. Would be good to see if they do work, as

Not only do I have H7 yes NOT H7R in my NORMAL lens but I also have HIDs in my Main Beam and Foglights

So? Neither will blind anyone if they are used as they should. Lol

But are they lamps or bulbs? :nerd:

funny read!...i've got h7R's in my fabia mk1 normal reflectors....sitting in another car with the fabia behind me with the lights on, it doesn't seem to glare/blind. I have lowered the beam slightly to make sure of it this too - I set the lever on about 2. I have 5000k bulbs which I'm going to downgrade to 4300k, it is bright and stands out a bit so I'm after a more OEM look. So are H7R in halogen reflectors ok? I might even take them out, only fitted them to see if I could do it as I got them as a present.

But are they lamps or bulbs? :nerd:

Lamps, bulbs grow in the garden ;) aha, couldnt resist, my boss (sparky) tells me off all the time

The title suggests this thread is about legality, people are referring to being able to pass an MOT as legal . This is not the case , as long as the light is a variation of white or yellow and the beam is within tolerance they will pass MOT. Police use different regs . If you bolted a sword to the bonnet of your car it would pass an mot aslong as its secure, doesn't make it legal .

Presumably it's not illegal to install a pop up mirror on the back of my car or in the rear window -particularly for the latest craze of putting HIDs in transit vans. It'd just be a bit of sport -playing them at their own game.

Thats a rare idea! We get alot of new range rovers round here, those lights are ridiculous!
