  • Ta da. This happened this afternoon, I'm very pleased it.     Luckily I was able to pull off the main road and stop at the right time. My Maths was obviously right when I reset the trip.

  • I had to do this once I realised it was possible.............(i.e. I hadn't passed the mileage yet, so could reset the T1):

  • TaDa     As you can see I've dusted too! :p

The national added a large chunk to the ODO this month.

A fairly standard boring one, so much so I didn't even reset the trip as I had just filled up and couldn't be bothered......

My 2yr old MkIII just about to hit 51k also!  Wonder what it'll be on when it gets to the same age as your MkI?

One of the many things the Mk1 had in it's favour over a MkIII IMO was that it can still be on the road at over 14 years old and be a more than economically viable vehicle. I fear that the MkIII will at that age with it's inbuilt technology and systems be a ticking time bomb with non economically viable components that will cost more than the car is worth to replace. I don't foresee seeing any with 1million KM's on them like most of the old 1.9TDi models have seen around Europe.

Most probably very true!  We sold our MkI 1.8T 4x4 at 7 years old, it was only just run in at 42k, 6 years later its still on the road, last time I spotted it about a year ago, it looked as good as the day we traded it in!  As for the Mk III, well, its a good car for the money compared to anything else you can get in the same price bracket, but I'd have to agree, it's not as bullet proof as the MkI, or even the MkII for that matter!

It's weird, I just can't foresee quite a few modern car models being still on the roads at say 20 years old.

Yes, even the humble Ford Escort seems to have evaporated, you don't see many of the run out models from c1998 just prior to the Focus being introduced! MkI Octy's on the other hand, just seem to multiply!

The Focus seems to be doing well too. I see a few come up for sale with massive miles for still more than I'd value them at. 160K miles 1.6 petrol's for £900!!!! Mk1 Octy 1.9TDI's (early 2000's) I see same sort of mileage ones a lot and asking £1500-£1900! crazy money.

This one made me late for work [emoji1]

That was arriving at work yesterday morning doing after a 30 mile journey. This morning it was 76.5mpg but it would be interesting to know the true reading.

Thats bloody close to my record for my 25 mile commute (through 4 towns) Generally it's about 73mpg :( Way home 70.5mpg-73mpg so far. 4 new tyres and a service shortly might help that though.

You can't complain about 77mpg.

Oh I'm certainly not. It's just I want to break the 80mpg commute barrier :D I am so tempted to change back to my 15" steel wheels just for the mpg and see what I get.
