Featured Replies

Hi all,

I think my battery is about to expire...can't complain as is the original battery and car is now 8 years old.

I am looking to change it soon, so only want to fit something cheap, does anybody have any recommendations? or suggest best web sites to look?

I have seen some for £60, and a Varta for a liitle more.

put in your number plate though as it could be slightly different model be sure to get the 25% brisky discount though.

That reminds me whats the best way to store a battery? as i have one of these in the garage waiting to be put on my car when the original finally gives up.

Should i fully discharge it or keep it charged or what i want to keep it in good condition but i don't want to fit it until my original one has packed up still going at the

minute and its 7 years old now.

You can use Eurocarparts using code Brisk25 for discount. I think you could get a Bosch S4 096 for that price.

Edit: Just beaten to it :)

Varta arn't an unknown cheapy they make some good batteries and are sometimes specced in new cars. However in this instance i think the bosch is recomended for your application although as i said earlier make sure you put your registration in on eurocarparts as not all S4 are the same and you need the right version.

Try carparts4less as well as ECP there sometimes cheaper, Beware the size of the battery the reg search sometimes brings up batteries that are physically too big.

To keep your spare bat in good condition give it a small charge each month. Also do not leave it on bare concrete.

As has been mentioned, keep it fully charged when in storage. Lead acid batteries suffer from sulfation when discharged, which reduces capacity and shortens it's life.

Trickle charging it fully from time to time will prevent this from happening.

last week----varta 096 from bristol honda via e-bay next day delivery £54 good service-- well pleased :hi:

Good spot

The Varta is cheaper than the Bosch 096 for the same specs. Interesting the Honda one has a 3 yr warranty whilst all the others are 4yr for the same battery.

varta was OE fit on the SEAT it came sealed in a HONDA box and has slightly better CCA than the Bosch

Hi again all,...and thanks for the replies.

I have checked out the HondaEbay link, but under "Skoda" it says this battery is for the 1.9 diesel, ie not the 2.0 ltre? so i assume they are different batteries?

I put a S5 on mine thinking I would keep it another six and a half years. powerfull battery. When a new battery is fitted to the Tfsi though you need to reset the throttle body alignment with vag-com or it will seem if divert valve is split especially if remapped

Really i have VCDS so could do the TB Alignment but why do you need to? What are the symptoms how do i know if i need to or not?

is this whenever you change a batter?

Is there any issues changing the battery on a VRS CR?

I would probably connectup my emergency booster pack to keep power connected whilst I changed the battery anyway so there would be no drop in power.

Just affects petrol cars (TFSI)

If you look under the VWs listed they include the 2ltr diesel - expect they just did not include all the Skoda engines

I just changed the one in my 2.0 PD. Standard was a Varta, now got a Bosch (100). Its huuuge, only just fits in the battery box and the lid just closes. No problems with disconnecting the power from it.

Hi all

Just checked battery on VRS. 540A / 61AH. The size is 240L x 175W x 190H.

The new battery I was thinking about is the Bosch S5 096. 278L x 175W x 190H.

As the length of the new battery is 38mm more than the original, will the Bosch fit?

Dave

Yes 096 is no problem and the 100 is ok too. They list a 110 and that is too big.
