Battery

Featured Replies

Just had to replace my battery ('06 1.6FSI), and got a Bosch S4 004 which is exactly the same size and power rating (60Ah) as the original Skoda battery. £56.94 including next day delivery from carpartssaver on ebay.

Got 2 x Bosch S5 096's (780A / 77Ah) delivered today from justcarbatteries. Will get them fitted to the VRS and the Astravan over the weekend. They were just under £80 each with free delivery.

Fitted my new battery at the weekend, pretty straightforward. Impressed that the alarm goes off with only the +ve terminal reconnected (not so sure the neighbours were so impressed...)

Briefly alarmed (no pun intended) that the power steering warning light remained on after starting up, but it went off after driving a short distance and has remained off since, so hopefully all is well.

I have a 07 1.6 fsi with battery specifications of 60amp, cca sae:590 (equivalent to Bosh S4 TYPE 075). Would it be harmful to replace it with a higher capacity  battery such as 096 Bosch S5. I note the S5 wiould have amp and cca's higher than the original one?.

A higher rated battery will not hurt. As long as it fits in the original mounting space, AFAIR that maximum is type 096. That is what I fitted to our vRS.

The Bosch S5 and Varta E44 are manufactured in the same factory, and are indeed the same battery with different labels.

+1 for the CTEK chargers
