FELICIA/FAVORIT APPRECIATION THREAD

Recommended Posts

If it's well prepped it ought to do it no problem. If I had to do a long trip I'd have no hesitation in using mine out of the three cars in my fleet. Just last weekend I went to Chatham and back. 240 mile round trip and I was back in time for lunch. I change the oil every year and don't have to top it up at all in between (though obviously I still check it regularly) which is more than I can say about the crappy VW engine in the Felicia.

The engine in my Felicia is excellent. Oil change?...can't remember when I did it last. Coolant leaking everywhere, but it has been getting me to work and back for 10 years now. Can't fault it.

Is your Felicia a 1.3 or 1.6? If it's a 1.3 it's a proper Skoda engine as in my Favorit. If it's the 1.6 it's a VW cast off. Not only does mine burn oil it leaks it too. No sooner do I find and fix one oil leak than it pops out somewhere else.

It is smoother and quieter but that seems to be its only advantage over the 1.3. Having said that I still wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere, I'd just make sure I'm carrying spare oil first.

It's the 1.3 Skoda engine, noisy pushrods and various leaks but has never let me down. The rest of the car is fallling apart each year at MOT time, but always comes out with a pass

( subject to varying degrees of money directed at it).😉

Yes see, that's not the engine I was slagging off. My 1.3 is great. Not only does it use no oil, I changed the oil in January, just before its MOT and it's still oil coloured, it hasn't turned black yet. Brilliant engine.

Ahem, I have a 1.6 felicia and to my shame it hasn't been serviced since I bought it 18mo ago (ok ok I'm doing it today!).  I just drove it to Shetland and back from Yorkshire without an issue.  I'm not a fan of petrols but yeah...can't really fault it!!

It lives in SE London now. I bought it to do a "banger rally" to Monte Carlo in July but always had a soft spot for old Skodas and the like, so as long as it makes it there and back, and the MOT man is kind in October it will probably end up hanging around in SE London for a bit longer.  Had a patch on the sill and the arches need attention, and less said about the inside of the tailgate the better but other than that seems pretty solid. Its not done many miles in last ten years so fair bit of mechanical work needed for the trip. Although the previous owner did keep on top of the maintainance so its only the impending long trip which is dictating the work so far......

In Felicia the engine is not 100% VW ,except the metal even some other things as sensors-button starter are CZ.

You missed the important part. Yoss referred to 1.6 engines, you talked about 1.3 engines.

As for the age of the topics, you are free to post on 10 years old ones if you like. Knock yourself out.

I read and comment having in my mind that, Yoss can make the correction.

You are not some kind of ''God" which has the right to judge anyone, you are just a common mortal guy.

As for your suggestion a have an answer "Go and fetch me a banana" and now we have a draw.

Don't quite know what we are arguing about here. My Favorit has the 1.3 Škoda engine. It's lovely. Not quiet but makes a nice noise. I change the oil once a year and don't have to top it up in between (only doing about 5000 miles a year). My Felicia has the VW AEE 1.6. It leaks oil from various places. Every time I fix a leak it pops out somewhere else. For the extra cc there is very little extra power. It's only plus point is it is a lot quieter but I much prefer the 1.3.

It is amazing that after more than 20 years, a small Czech car is still loved by so many o us. The only things that made people lose their car were rust, lack of maintenance, abuse or accidents.
