Just got in a bit earlier than usual. Like to get in about an hour before the racing starts, to avoid the queues :p     :D     No updates at the moment kids... but this has happened:

  • Sod it... took it round the block and stopped for some proper pics                   Needs lowering now that it's gained ride hide... but not really got much arch gap to play

  • Thanks buddy     Slight update: The Punisher / black theme is starting to wear thin on me now. I do love the black, but it's starting to look dark grey (rather than the jet black that I love) and

Got a link to your headlights?

You always see me when I'm going to get my hair cut :D

But yeah you're right. Shallow sump is being fitted on Friday... so will finally have the option for lows.

omg you dont go to that one on the corner :giggle:  ha good stuff i never had shallow sump though :dull:

Do like the umbrella idea

As in blues? Illegal even if just fitted. I might get away with magenta, as long as I don't use them on the road

Indeed good sir: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271304480831

Just a warning though - they are LHD, so I'm driving around on fog lights atm. I'm going to attempt to convert them later on when the weather warms up a bit.

lol no - Canvas on West Street; been going there since I was a kid :p Oh I know you don't have to have a shallow sump to go lower... but my old company had Octy vRS's and a lot of them got sumped. Too many horror stories, so shallow sump will ease my worries.

How do you rate your headlights compared to OEM ones?  still tempted by them

How do you rate your headlights compared to OEM ones?  still tempted by them

In terms of looks, 9000 times better than my modded OEM ones, and 1 million times better than standard OEM.

They will look slightly different on a car without a bonnet bra - mine look quite rounded, because of a slight overlap. On a car without a bonnet bra they will look a little more square (inner corners by grille),

Lighting wise - DRLs look really good without being tacky:

(Before anyone bitches about the disabled space - this is where I work and we all park here during closing hours as this is where the security cameras point!)

However, the unit is slightly strange. The dipped beams are where the fog lights are on the OEM... and vice-versa  No idea why they've swapped them round, but I'm not going to worry too much. They desperately need converting to RHD though, as I'm driving on fogs atm. Doesn't matter too much as my drive to work is only 3 minutes and I'm not driving anywhere else in the dark.

Hopefully I can figure it out and get them sorted :) (And no, sticking tape on them doesn't count as sorted!)

Overall - big smiles.

do they pass MOT as they are? Light output better?

do they pass MOT as they are? Light output better?

They'll fail the MoT because the lights are pointing in the opposite direction (you'll blind on-coming traffic). This is why I'm using my fogs as they point forward and are actually quite bright.

I can't answer the second question really. Again, because the lights are pointing the opposite way it's hard to compare them to the OEM ones. Plus, I haven't installed new bulbs, I've still got the ones they came with. The dipped and main beams are seperate, so not H4... I need to have a look and find out what they are (I suspect H3).

Something like this :- http://mobile.fedsig.com/products/263/legend_lightbar

Yeah, but I'd prefer a Whelen one. I think I might just stay with hidden strobes though - a lightbar causes all kinds of hassle: 1) installation is a mare and 2) the old bill will keep tugging me and crying about how I've got better gear than them :D

How do you make them legal then?

How do you make them legal then?

I'm lead to believe that some lights can be opened up and by moving a few bits around you can reverse the direction (i.e. convert LHD to RHD). However, if the light reflector is responsible for direction... it's impossible.

I'm taking the lights out tomorrow as my MoT is this Friday, so that'll give me a fantastic opportunity to have a nose and work out if it's possible. I'll update the thread with the results ;)

Yea cheers, shame they couldn't just do them rhd anyway probably not enough demand from UK

Been reading up on that, hopefully yours will just have a lever to switch from lhd to rhd on the projector unit, really is that simple on some units!

I *think* they made a limited amount, but they are very rare.

I can't remember seeing one when I installed them - just the usual adjusters. I hope you're right though, it'd make life a lot easier :P

Old lights back in... *groan* :wonder:  Also gave it a quick wash.

Dropped off and ready for MoT / service. I really hope I don't break last years record of ~£800 in repairs.

That discoloured indicator looks horrible!

Just been told that the new shallow sump doesn't cater for the oil level sensor... looks like another light to add to my fruit machine dash!

:rain:

They did do them in rhd Andyrew had some about 5 year ago

But they stopped doing them as no demand

Results are in: MoT passed.

Service done, new thermostat, shallow sump fitted, new breather hose and the underguard has been left off. Feels strange driving it - seems a lot more sensitive now it's had weight removed from the front. Steering seems a little lighter.

Oh, and this happened:

Don't really care though as the indicators are rotten anyway (stained yellow colour).

Very pleased it's passed with no dramas this year - makes up for last year's disaster :) Now I need to wait for the weather to pick up, then it's back to modifying.

Really! advisory's for engine covers..

Engine trays have to be put on to cover the testers ass if it gets fully checked and they find a inner cv boot split for instance they cant go back and go hold on why wasnt this picked up..

Im surprised they passed it with eml and brake warning on though as ive been told for a little while now its now a failure for it and my brother went on the test to become a tester and they said it was illegal but im no mot tester just a technician

I think it's because both lights don't actually indicate a real problem:

EML = O2 sensors need replacing... but emissions passed

Brake Light = brakes aren't sensor compatible.

So there's not really a safety issue as such.

Also - went for a longer run last night and the car feels like new again. Losing the underguard has made the car feel a lot lighter at the front - it handles a lot better in the corners and acceleration has improved. It would appear that the pollen filter was responsible for the steaming up of the windows. Since it's been changed they've remained clear and the car is a lot drier inside (no more steamed-up dash! :D).

Had another police car follow me for a good long while - I think they must love my friend in the boot!

A little update: I've had a pop at the gear linkage to see if that would fix my gearbox issues out (thanks Bowders for the video). I physically had to prise one of the plastic forks off the cable because it had somehow rusted into it

Anyway, it's tightened the box up a little and is no longer "crunching" into reverse, but the issue still remains:

Looks like the issue goes a lot deeper :(

I'd try looking under the gear stick boot probably find the old grease has dried up in there bud. My old t4 van used to do the same whip the boot up spay with wd40 ok for another few thousand miles.

Thanks - I'll give that a go. However, I don't think it'll solve it. The problem appeared when a recovery driver let the car roll off the back of the truck in 1st gear, so I'm guessing that it's broken / mangled something inside :(

Worth a try with the WD40 though... you never know.

Anyway, I've finally decided on the new direction I'm taking. Out with The Punisher... and in with this:

I loved this film when I was younger and have always had a big interest in The Gulf War & The Kosovo War. Both happened when I was very young and they are some of my earliest memories - probably the reason I have such a large interest in the military. The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk stealth jet saw action in both wars, but unfortunately has now been retired. However... I'm going to revive it

Visual:

- 18" Dotz alloy wheels

- Front splitter

- Custom "F-117 style" rear wing (attached to top of boot)

- Front bumper & grille mods (widemouth and meshing)

- Sideskirts

- All-over body rivets

- Additional vents

- Puddle lights (green & red)

- Removable decorative missiles (only for shows)

- Tinted windows

- Full decal set (stencils for spraying)

Performance & mechanical:

- Lowered ~50mm on coilies

- New exhaust system

- FMIC

- Stage 1 re-map

- RARB

- Single wiper conversion

Car systems:

- CB radio

- Bull horn & tannoy (100w)

- Red, green & white strobe system (aircraft navigation lights)

Fixes:

- New radiator fan

- New O2 sensors

- New front brakes (discs & pads)

- Convert new headlights to RHD

So, time for this crap weather to bugger off because there's lots to do :p
