Getting my car vinyl wrapped.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just had my payrise at work and its time to get the 1.4tdi's roof wrapped me thinks :).

Im going for the monte carlo look as you may have already guessed if youve read my other posts.

Quick few questions though before i go ahead if you would please gentlemen:

-Ive been told the monte carlo's roof is just wrapped and not painted?

-Is the monte carlo's roof 'black magic' or just a gloss black?

-And if the roof is black magic, anyone know if there is a vinyl wrap out there to match it?

A from the factory black roof option is Black Magic painted.

Yes you can get a Metallic Black Wrap, you should be able to get one that matches 'Black Magic' if that is important to you,

but once you ask or choose the people doing the wrap they can tell you the prices and what they use or can supply.

Thanks for the quick reply matey, obviously i was misinformed about the way in which the black roof is achieved. i must admit it did seem a little odd that a new car would be wrapped from the factory instead of simply painted that colour to begin with :P .

i live in the northamptonshire area, anyone have any ideas of a decent place to get it done? ive checked out a website for a company called DBtints and their stuff looks pretty professional, they can tint my windows at the same time too lol!

You have a pretty good choice it looks like with a Google.

'Xwrap' among others.

If nobody here has a recommendation maybe ask at a Taxi Rank some of the drivers with wrapped cabs.

Thanks again mate, just took a looksie at that Xwrap, they look rather promising also :)

After this is done a little more ambitious is going to be to get gigaro black alloys, only problem is i have 15inch steel wheels currently, so going to have to go down the low profile route :(

Tyres will be 205/40/17, and if that the look you want, then that is the way to go.

or go for some kind of 16" rims.

Just check your insurance are happy enough or if you will need to change companies if you have mods, or even fit alloy wheels.

Another member that had his Roof Painted, suspension modded and spacers fitted, changed insurance companies and got a good a good deal.

Midlands car care for wrapping.

DB Tints are very good, just have a look at the Unit18 van and S13, pretty sure that who Ali uses.

Why not just get it painted though? I got my roof done for £150 professionally, not sure how much a wrap is. If you look at a Monte its not just the roof that is painted, the line actually comes down into the doors so you dont see the original colour around the doors etc.

What comes down the front and back door is Wrapped from the factory, not painted.

OCD's excellent post showing his roof being painted, and the wonderful job done is here someplace, but a can not find it.

Some complete horror story threads on wrapping, even one member on here got stung, paint scored with stanley knife etc.

Look on any board from Skoda to Ferrari and one name stands out for excellence, Paul at PWPro.

Thanks for the comments guys, ive taken a look and read up on the horrors of vinyl wrapping and i must say a respray is looking more and more tempting, how much difference in £ we talking between a wrap an respray?

Would i need to tell my insurance?

As for the gigaro wheels and low profiles, ill get those closer to christmas when i have a bit more money saved away, im thinking that will cost me around £600-700 for wheels + tyres, depending whether i get second hand gigaro's or not.

I have 2 spare sets of Black Gigaro that cost me £400 for 4 wheels and tyres, that was with almost new tyres on.

Not interested in selling those, but you should be able to find similar.

'vRSy' is selling lovely wheels & tyres, £650 plus Postage i think., That is 'Much Cheapness'.

but they are road legal track tyres which would not be right probably for you.

(see his Project Build thread in that section.)

Team Dynamic Pro 1.2, with Federal 595RSR Semi Slicks.

The roof change should not effect your Insurance, but you need to ask them.

I can not paint a roof for £150 and make any money out of doing it.

5-6 hours spent to do it properly to my standard, plus materials. thats masking, discs, paint/lacquer.

(dewaxing, masking, prepping, painting and polishing and waxing.

then obviously anyone that is in business has VAT to charge. !!!)

Best that you get a price locally, for Painting.
