Sparkly's Mk2 vRS (now sadly returning to stock)

Currently on Hols in Cornwall with the family.

Entertaining as the Fabia is on twisty back roads and giving respectable MPG on a run, the long drive down here and longer day tripping really highlights the cars lack of comfort, refinement and space. All of which seems to stand out even more with SWMBO sat next to me grumbling about it.

Probably won't come to anything but sat on Autotrader looking at Octy vRS', Golf Edition 30's and Seat LCR's. My mind is wandering to thoughts of K04 powered beasties. The Octy can be done as an estate option too!?!  Hard not to feel that this would still give thrills but ultimately be a better all rounder.

But when on my own in the Fabia I still love how it punches above it's weight and on only very modest spends is starting to handle really well.

As I need to change the top mounts shortly, I may take a punt on some Weitec ST twin tube dampers to see if they improve the ride a touch. I I do this I will invest some time in looking at sound dampening options for the cabin. A good friend has suggested expanding foam

Screaming toddler in car seat manoeuvring in a car park and touched bumpers with a Range Rover (his bumper, my boot tailgate), it was fine, I got a nasty crease.

Any thoughts if this dent can be pulled or knocked out and how much, paint is actually intact.

Damn and blast! Ah well, these things happen.

From that photo, it looks like quite a 'soft' impact, so that should be able to be pulled out.

I would recommend spending a good bit of time reading up to find a repair shop where you can make a confident, mindful decision, that you are happy the shop can and make a quality repair.

I hope you get this annoying bump sorted out to the level I assume looking for. From reading through your thread, you look after your car.

Ok, so dent and misgivings aside, I think I need to stick with the Mk2 Furby.

This means a few new plans.

- look at some kind of acoustic isolation/deadening for the wheel arches, rubber underseal spray?

- trial some dynomat type pads in the boot and other areas

- new dampers become a priority, I think my stock dampers are really going down hill, not helping the ride at all which aside from any crashiness present since stock is getting bouncy bouncy bouncy.

Old plans remain

Vibratechnics Dogbone - Torque Link

Superpro Chassis Kit

Replace stock cat downpipe with custom 100 cell DP on original exhaust.

New intercooler

Stage 2 Software.

Have also been on SCN reading about some guys in Greece who seem to be successfully incorporating K04 turbo hybrids onto the 1.4tsi. Makes me dream of the heyday of optimism around the Loba 270 conversion.

Instead of hankering after other cars I am resolved to make mine the best it can be, possibly with big power.

I'm glad you are sticking with the Furby for the mean time. :-)

Gutted for you about the dent, it doesn't look too bad if I'm honest, I'm sure it will be a relatively easy repair.

Nice one Mark...! Creating the Monster here...! I thought I'm catching up with you with all my handling and brakes but looks like I'm miles behind...:(

Well. I think when we at Castle Combe in September it'll be all down to the driving skills...;)

Or the amount of fuel left in your tanks ;)

You'll be ahead of me on handling mods when you throw on all your recent purchases, no doubt.

But if I have my way, by next Combe, I should have a fair wedge more power :)

To account for my lack of driving ability!

Sod!

Fair play to ya mark you're a good sport, just thought you'd need a giggle at the min. :giggle:

Bugg3r!  @ #403,  thats a sore one.

I'd get one of those smart repair frms out for a look/quote Mark.

It's got a bit of a crease as it's near an edge where the number plate recess is, which means it's not a straightforward one.

Yep, I am researching dent repair people in the area.

In other news, I had a quick chat with Turbo Dynamics this afternoon, just out of curiosity.  Once I have my intercooler and downpipe sorted, if I was feeling let down by stage 2, they are able to produce a Hybrid out of my existing turbo that is good for 300bhp for £650+VAT.  £1,095 + vat if brand new turbo.

:D

Hope thats ready for combe. I may feel massively outgunned!

LCR Top mounts and bearings arrived last week from SERE Motors.

Stage 2 for definite.

Don't know if I will have a Hybrid Turbo by then though, lol

Power good, but how does the dry 7 speed box cope?

OK?

As long as the mapping is sympathetic, it looks like the DSG isn't the hardest obstacle to overcome.  A lot of guys don't seem to ramp up the torque a great deal more than a Stage 1/2 map.  Most seem to rave about having it remapped though, quicker more responsive changes, kickdown delete and raised rev limiters etc.  The engine mounts become important then though if you are requesting quicker, harder gear changes.

Staying clear of a set-up which misfires seems like the bigger challenge.  Garret GTx2860R seems like a good turbo option in this respect, it's bigger so a little laggier but will produce more power from less boost.

The bigger issue is the lack of people pushing the power on these cars in the UK.  Many more in europe and asia it seems, quite a lot with the old golf CAVD 160ps twincharger engines, which would you believe they are parts bin scavenging off CAVE's to "upgrade" their engines.

This will all be a learning curve for me if I press ahead, so may well lean on some of you more experienced tuners for support Richard.

Yeti vRS is looking great btw ;)

Cheers.

The mk2 Fabia VRS is a decent package for track duties with brake and handling mods but I have to honestly say I'd never tune one much unless I had a good slush fund tucked away to cover any issues.

I know we are all aware of the reliability issues of SOME cars, but it just makes me nervous.

One bad experience could lead to a decent bill in the thousands for an engine build.

Not trying to pee on your party Mark.  Just expressing my concerns with the 1.4 twincharger.

A forged engine would make me a lot more comfortable. :)

A company called Arias offer forged pistons and rods suitable for this engine :)

Is DSG software remapping available? I know Shark (and others, Revo?) offer some options, but never paid much attention - being a manual person :)

Believe Autograph is a tuner in our area who have done extensive work on the ECU and the DSG mapping for a couple of high power cars with this engine and drive train. They are one company I know of who have achieved DSG and stage 3 on a car. Perhaps a road trip to Greece - taxopolous seem to be the real heavy hitters in Europe for tuning this engine and have achieved some fantastic results.

Shark have a great reputation and more of a name on here so worth contacting. I currently have APR Stage 1 but know I can't get to 3 with them which is sad as they did so much work on Sy's car but ultimately lost interest due to issues.

I will have to throw down the challenge to a few tuners to see who is up for it as a project (when the time comes)
