I'm not rising to anything from the man who drives a drug dealer car ;-)

But I don't own a BMW X5 or a Chrysler 300C :P

Are yeti owners with camper vans allowed to participate?

:-)

Only if you promise to bring a nice bottle of single malt. :giggle:

JPS cars specifically BANNED!!!

You imply I'd want to partake, Graham :)

It was mooted, but never got off the ground.

I know of a suitable site locally, but next year is going to be difficult for us as daughter#2 is probably getting married and we have a Twinning visit to France.

I'd be up for this Graham.  Now that I'm not in a tent we can even go in the colder months too!  More mud to play in once we leave the vans in the caravan park as well.

I'm sli9ghtly surprised not to have found you with an Airstream-

I find an Airstream beautiful, but also VERY old fashioned.  So they look wrong to me behind a new Range Rover or something. As the (expensive) period pieces they are, I think they only look good behind an old 60s American V8 station wagon or Cadillac.

But this to me just looks daft (same if it was to have been a Yeti):

Dom:-

Can you tow a Campervan with a Yeti (even a camper with a Tartan Bra on it?)

9million man:-

Only one word for you (and I think you should be docked a few noughts as well) - Softy!!

That said - it's amazing how many bikes, climbing kits, sub-aqua items and so on you can fit inside a Lunar Van on your way to one of your adventures. It just takes a wee bit longer to get there.

Well as Iain pointed out at least this Lunar of mine weighs about 200kg less than the ABI Award I was looking at - which had the same amount of space and beds albeit being a foot or so longer.

Now if this Yeti owners caravan get together happens ... will former Yeti owners be allowed?  Unless it happens in the next few weeks my Tig will be here.

Surely there would be some 'Honorary' or 'Founder' clause invoked?  Or invented  ?

Normally it would be the camper towing the Yeti with an A frame

I also tow a 'van.

Not done it yet with the Freelander. But I will.

What we have just done is bought a small Outwell pop up tent as it is much simpler to go away for a night camping.

No danger, the 1.2 is a great engine but towing a T5 would be beyond it

Enjoy your tin tenting Johann  :sun:

In addition to the 'vanners here, you'll probably be aware of the resource at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_forum_topics.asp?ForumID=8

Look forward to reading your first trip report

Thanks...  I've been using that site for years to look at campsite reviews.  Very useful.  Especially to find campsites that allow fires - which to me is a huge part of camping.

That's what the Top Gear team found as well... ... ...

Well with daffodils everywhere and the weather very much springlike I took The Turtle for its second trip with me this past weekend.

Collected the caravan and had to reverse down my dead end street (from about where you can see the blue van in the distance after straightening out from the side road), move the MX5 to the bay on the right as pictured (which was guarding the two spaces needed) and park Yeti and caravan here.  On my own.  Phew.  Managed it as I have reversed my trailer a fair few times - so same principles just that the damage you can do is quite a bit bigger with cars on both sides! LOL  But have to say the Milenco Aero II mirrors helped here a great deal. They are appreciably bigger than the useless Suck and see ones AND there is no sucker obscuring half of your existing mirror. Definitely a must have accessory.

Then on Friday evening we drove to West Sussex near Rye. Lovely part of the country. There was an earlier accident just before the Blacktunnel so it took us 53 minutes to do the first two miles from home with the average MPG on the Maxidot stating it was 10mpg!  Grrr.  And heavy persistent rain the whole way down. Which lead to a VERY muddy campsite.  oh well.

It also meant there was just one other camper there with us. A VERY basic campsite even though it is a Caravan and Camping Club site.

Coming back around 13:00 yesterday the traffic was much better and no rain so the same trip that took just under THREE HOURS on Friday took us one hour and 35 minutes! Perfect.  And the average fuel consumption WITH the caravan was:

I'm very happy with that.

Quite fair consumption - and I know we agree about towing with the DSG!

Oh that thought struck me a few times as I was driving - how easy the DSG makes it. Just one less thing to worry about being a newbie caravaner.

On a two occasions however, once going up a fair incline on the A21 heading towards London with the cruise set to 60, the gearbox started to hunt going back and forth, back and forth between the two gears. So I just added a tiny bit of fuel with the pedal and it settled.

I haven't experienced that gear hunting but towing under cruise control doesn't seem to suit Annie.  Back in April last year I said ('Towing with DSG'):  .....I did try cruise control but on undulating road I felt it was trying a bit too hard on the rises and I got improving mpg figures by just feeling the road....

I'll see how it goes.  On the whole using the cruise was fine and it gave excellent fuel consumption too.  The hunting was solved by keeping the cruise on and just adding a tiny bit of juice until we were over the crest of the hill.

I see that fire pit got into the pics!  Hmmmmm!

The pics I tried to email to you about four times.

That would be them!
