My Turtle

Featured Replies

Well I'm now officially Middle Aged (my friends one and all say). I've got myself a second hand caravan. :-)

I'm over the moon. It exceeded expectations. Yes it's old and outside has the odd nick and scratch but no big gashes or anything. And I was expecting a smelly old interior bit it smells of NOTHING. Seems bone dry and everything pristine and open and shuts as if brand new.

He also left EVERYTHING for me. Hitch lock, wheel lock, generator, wheel ramp thingies, nose weight scale, huge long tv aerial mast with guy ropes, electric kettle and toaster, pots, pans, plates, cutlery, half a stabiliser bar (he forgot the other bit on his previous car when he sold it) radio CD player with speakers, aqua roll, grey water container, awning with another additional tent with an inner tent to make it sleepable, a full cover for the whole van when I park it, breathable awning carpet, a few beach parasols, a fair few windbreaks, spare wheel, aluminium steps, two hook up cables (one with a three point plug to charge van at home) and a lot more I've now forgotten about. :-) Perfect beginners caravan.

Yeti tows like a dream. Hardly know it's back there - apart from that odd braking sensation when the caravan brakes kicks in as you stop. The little mirrors also work well, but because I've got the electric seat the mirror positions are part of the memory. So they adjust back out every time I lock and get back in. Maybe I need to save seat memory 3 for caravan and not for off roading. :-)

Thank you Iain and Graham for your help with al my questions. You each got the above as a PM when I realised I might as well say it here.

where are you going to park it?

where are you going to park it?

+1

Does your turtle have a head, Johann?  :)

You do realise your only allowed to pull it on a Monday Morning from 00:30 till 00:45. then thats it till next Monday

This is so roads don't get clogged up

Welcome to the Yeti Caravan Group!  The Yeti won't notice it, so you will have to keep a close watch on your speed - promise!

Grandmothers and eggs, I'm sure, but with a pre-loved 'van it's worth remembering that caravan tyres rarely wear out - they go out of date ;)

Yes I measured both tyres and they were 7mm each. But I did not check the dates. I'll check next time I'm with it.

Parking? Well I have a friend five minutes drive from me that does not have a car so I use her parking space.

I think The Turtle has a head that looks very similar to a Yeti.

Just replace the wheels with a couple of Spitzberg's, add some Briskodian stickers and then you're good to go.

Very nice mate, the idea has appealed to me for a while but the practicalities just aren't workable yet ie where to locate it when not in use! Best of luck with it. :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of caravanning.

Just back from our 68th night of the year and a few more to go.

Looks like a 94/95 Lunar Premiere dealer special ... based of the 516 or 516 L model.  The L had an L shaped rear dinette.  The body shape changed for 96 ... so sorry to say it is more than 17, happily not by much!

When is the first trip?

Closer look at the pics obviously show it is the 516 L  ... should have looked more closely!

Plenty of storage places about!  My mate pays about £300 a year on a COSSA Gold storage site, though there are cheaper options ... luckily we can keep ours at home.

Iain you are obviously a caravan geek like I'm a geek on cars. It does indeed have the L shaped seating area out back. And only a dealer could come up with a name like Delyte. Yuck.

(What I was really looking for was either a '92 or '93 ABI Award Nightstar. But the one I bid on (complete with motor mover) got away from me on eBay by the tune of just £28.) And end of the day this was a LOT cheaper than that because the seller of mine set a minimum price instead of a reserve price - and due to people being scared of the battery charger having been fried, no-one bid! So I got it for his set minimum price since I put a silly bid in. Ha).

First trip: after the full service booked for the 19th when it will also get the battery charger fixed which the previous owner fried with what is now my generator. Oops.

Now all you want is a nice dry pitch to put the caravan on and something (soft ground) so you can get a grip with Haldex.

Good luck.

You did well to avoid the 92/93 Award Johann ... all those joints on the beautifully shaped roof caused problems.  My dads mate had a 92 Award which leaked very badly but mainly in the roof joints.  Oh and they were heavy beasts too.

And yes I am a caravan geek!

Ah well... The Awards are beautiful though and I'm sure there's horror stories to be told about the Lunar I bought too! I'll deal with it as and when but hopefully all will stay dry and nice.

Yikes! That's muddy! Did you get the van out in the end?!

More like reversing in, the owner of the site owns a Skoda Superb, he suggested turning off traction control  , after the rear wheels only spun and dug in, with traction control off, 4 wheels turned, traction and into the pitch.

Another suggestion for a good short :giggle:  outing.

Before getting winter tyres I purchasd a pair of sno socks. Take them with the van for grass/mud but have not had to use them yet.

Iain,

You're an anorak!! :giggle:

Johann,

Looks good!! :hi:

Now when's the first Yeti CV Rally?

...Now when's the first Yeti CV Rally?

Wasn't that suggested a year or so ago?

It was mooted, but never got off the ground.

I know of a suitable site locally, but next year is going to be difficult for us as daughter#2 is probably getting married and we have a Twinning visit to France.

Are yeti owners with camper vans allowed to participate?

:-)

I thought the Yeti was a camper van :)
