Build date delayed by 7 weeks!

Featured Replies

I ordered a VRS petrol estate 3 months ago. I added a few options, but luckily didn’t select any of the options that are now proving somewhat problematic with deliveries (e.g. panoramic sunroof, ACC, etc). Having waited a long 3 months for my provisional build date of week 42, which should have been next week, I have just been informed by my Skoda dealer there is now a 7 week delay! Skoda have offered no reason for the delay, and I would not be surprised if it slips again later down the line. This is my first Skoda and I am beginning to wonder if I have done the right thing. I am seriously considering cancelling my order, keeping my existing car for a couple of years and then picking up a second hand mk3 VRS when all the hysteria has settled down. Surely buying a new car should be a great experience; however I am just feeling miserable about it, which nobody should be feeling when spending 24k on a car.

Ahh feel for you buddy. How come you had to wait so long for a provisional date? I had one the day I placed my order. Yes it got moved about a bit and ended up being built 3 weeks later than due but I had the provisional build weeks. I guess you need to weigh up waiting for a new car vs waiting for a second hand one and the obvious savings there. Have you considered seeing if there are any vrs demos out there available to buy?

I ordered mine two weeks ago and still no build date (vRS estate TDI DSG).  I also have not specced any of the problematic options

I'm probably one of the few who are wanting delays so I can get my very first new car on a 14 plate!!

I think everyone else should just cancel their orders. That way I will get mine quicker.

Yes it is a pain in the ass but Skoda have probably been surprised by the popularity of these cars. I bet someone at SUK wishes they had added a few grand to the list prices or excluded the VRS for 0% offers.... There are other countries who have it worse than us.

They provided a provisional build date about 3 weeks after I placed the order, the 3 months wait I was referring too was the wait until the provisional build date...  sorry I should have made it clearer. Thanks for suggesting a demo, however I've never really been that keen on buying a demo. I'm still debating on what to do. Think I am leaning towards waiting a couple of years, at least then it will become clearer on how well the mk3 VRS has performed.

Same problem here. My first Skoda. Order placed 1st week in Sept for a vRS estate, petrol manual. Was build week 47, now week 6 2014. I have

ACC

KESSY

Canton

Park Assist

Columbus

Sunset glass

Black pack

Currently being stung with the ACC problem and I'm also wondering whether I have done the right thing in ordering this car. As the OP said, for the £28k I've paid (or will pay), this is not a good experience and am too wondering whether I should cancel.

Wait until March 2014 and take the risk of yet more delays or cancel. No idea what to do.

I would suggest making the offer to the dealer to swap the adaptive cruise control (ACC) for the conventional type and ask them if it would ease the delay problem.

I'm glad I didn't order ACC because of this and when it comes to driving on a motorway I generally don't even use brakes & drive on the cruise controls up & down switch using observation and forward thinking, the only time i use the cars brakes is when some muppet forces me to use them or I have to slow for sharp bends on a country road/traffic lights.

The dealer told me it be 12-16 weeks before i get it and he wrote down 1st Jan 2014 .. I order mine 5 weeks ago

he said they havn't yet started building the  hatch yet...

I did consider buying a Mk2 vRS ...

The other 2 brand new cars I bought ( not Skoda ) I manage to get them within 7 days..

When i went into the dealers today he said week 5buiild,then I changed colour to meteor grey with silver trim instead of red,and it came down to week 51,id have prefered the week5build tbh,as the delivery would be for march, not feb.strange world of skoda build system

Wassers, the decision may come down to how old / how many miles your Volvo has done?

The Volvo's done some miles (75k in 3 years, don't even ask!) but will go on forever, they are bullet proof. However my wife will get the Volvo and I planned on getting the VRS. I must have caught her in a good mood!

May be they build date depends on the colour..

I order race blue i hope they build them first.... haha

Ok, so trade in value less of a concern.

For what it's worth, I bought new in 2010. Probably won't do so again, although I did enjoy it!

Think for me the value is probably in a 2 or 3 year-old car.

I said that mate, they probably have a field full of shells that noone wants,or they bypass part of painting, just laquered the primerlol

27weeks and counting so I really do hope you all get yours ASAP but don't hold ya breath !

  • 3 months later...

Ordered a vRS at the beginning of December, 16 weeks was offered. First update report was build week 19 that I calculate to be around 5 weeks delay. Last weeks up date was from now 4 months, that makes another 4 weeks delay I believe. Another e-mail later that day said they could not now give me a build date. Yes buying a new car should be a pleasurable experience this is a nightmare not to mention SpiritSkoda Harlow have my £5782.50 deposit. Sales executive has asked what is the best time to come in and speak to the boss. Do you think that will do any good, I shall see.

I have a mk2 Vrs which took 9 months to arrive in June 2011 Skoda UK supplied me with a loan car after about 6 months. I complained to Skoda then and they things would get better concerning delivery times but as you all know nothing has changed. I now have a Mk3 TDI hatch on order and have been told a minimum wait of 6 months. If you can wait take delivery and then sell the car if you have secured a good deal you will probably make some money on it. I would not cancel as the dealer will love that as they will probably sell the car to another person as the car is already programmed into the system to be built and with the recent price increase they will probably charge even more for it.
