Winters on !

Featured Replies

Thanks for the offer Geek, shame theres only 2!

I'm going to write to the website who sold me the tires because I guess they should have also included the centre caps.

Hopefully they will send me some Dezent ones.

My second idea is to visit the local VAG garage (I know the accesories guy as I've bought a few things recently).

The Dezent TD is an "OEM" alloy wheel for the Golf so I guess there is at least a VW centre cap available.

There are quite a few Skoda centre caps on AliExpress.com.

They mostly look like moulded caps so should be better than stickers (and are very cheap from China) but I don't want to wait 2 weeks to find out they are crap or don't fit.

Good news, the website where I bought my wheels is sending me a set of Dezent centre caps.

Great customer service.

Shame I'm in Switzerland or I would recommend them to everyone (PneuExperte.ch / Reifen.de)

Getting a bit confused on the tyre sizes people are fitting - shouldn't it be 225/45R17, not 215/45R17 - which are 12mm smaller in diameter than a 225/40R18?

I'm going to 205/55R16 for my winters, I can get 4 steel wheels with Continental TS850 tyres delivered from Germany for less than I can get 4 decent winter tyres for 225/40R18 in the UK. No good for vRS owners though with those huge front discs!

And I get to have a Christmas (wheel) tree in my garage LOL!

Doh, just realised this was a post from last year!

Anybody got 205/55R16 fitted and would like to share a picture? Cant stop thinking 16 look to small for Octavia..

same profile as 18s, my vRS of 2006 had that exact wheel as a spare , higher profile , so rolling diameter the same

check out the following posts of this thread for pictures 16" wheels. I believe WAOUla has exactly the same tyre size as you requested as well.

Heh, my winter tyres are 195/65/R15. Looked funny at first but seem fine now.

I just cant stand 16" on Octavia, just too small for me. VRS owners at least do not have a choice beacuse of the brakes..

I dont mind the price difference so much (16" alloys + tyres for my chosen set  = 700eur, 17" = 1000eur)

I am scared of aquaplaning though on widerer tyres: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mERAaeCrj0E

My tyres have turned up from tyreleader.co.uk after just 3 days. I plumped for a set of Nokian WR A3 225/45 R17 for my newly purchased Audi wheels.

Hopefully get the tyres fitted this weekend then they are ready for when the weather turns cold

The decent wheels look good on the vRS in metal grey.

I did think the 17" wheels would be tight to the brakes that Wye I went for 18" winter wheels and tyres for my vRS

Do like the skoda wheel bags got to get some of them

Fitted my tyres this eve and managed to polish up two of the wheels. Hopefully get them on the car and make sure everything clears Ok (probably should have checked this before I fitted the tyres) thankfully I managed to balance them with low profile weights so they should just fit looking at how tight they can be!

Managed to get mine fitted. Think it looks pretty good to be fair and the wheels clear the calipers by loads even though they are only 17"

Excellent, I'm not driving mine as I'm waiting for some new wheel bolts to turn up as i got 60degree taper ones with my spacers by accident but these wheels take radius ones.

Quite nice looking wheels, should look good in anthracite!

What size spacers are you fitting?

I've got 15mm on the back and 12mm on the front. With an offset of et56 on the Audi wheels it leaves me with the rears 11mm out and fronts 7mm out as the original offset was et51

Whether I will keep the spacers on when I put the original wheels back on will depend on how they look and drive.

15mm rear, 10mm front for me. Not used them with the winter wheels yet, they've been on with OE wheels so far and car foes look better with them on.

I just fitted some 'Continental WinterContact TS 850 205/55 R16 91H' on 16 inch (5 x 112.00 x 57.00 ET: 48.00) steel rims, bought from mytyres.co.uk. The 48 offset allows the use of snow chains if needed according to the car manual, unlike a regular 46 offset.

I also got some 'Skoda Nordic' hub covers to go on them.

I've fitted them to my Octavia SE 4x4 SE, which has the raised ride height and rough road protection package.

Excellent, it looks better with the winters on so I'm guessing when I get the Gemini back on I will look even better! I only went for 12mm as I couldn't find any 10mm hubcentric ones. And also i got the 12 and 15 in a set with bolts off eBay

I looked for Skoda wheelbags, but they were a bit pricey through official channels and I didn't find many alternative sources. The VW bags on the other hand are available from everyman and his dog for next to no money, so I bought those. They're just a little bit blue instead of a little bit green!

They're so similar that the part number is identical bar a suffix on the Skoda one that presumably denotes the colour/logo change!

Its funny because its the same here.

The Skoda bags are actually more expensive than the exact same VW ones in blue even from the official accessories shop.

You can also get the Audi version in white & silver for an extra 5CHF...

I've just had a set of Vredestein Quatrac 3 All Season tyres fitted to my VRS. Used to have winters on a set of 16" steelies on my Civic, but lack the storage space now, so having to try the all season option.

The original Conti SportContact 2's lasted 19.5k miles, which doesn't seem too bad.
