A bit of a dissapointing experience..

Front end a bit of a missmash of angles and add on trim. Noticed the gaps between Grille vertical

vanes (both top and bottom grille) appear to be wider and so damage to radiator / air con rad much more likely. Not sure if the city version is any better.

Not so easy to clean as black plastic trim is the same nightmare to keep clean variety as the original version.

Boot light changed but still pathetic.

No Brochures available apart from unreadable photo copy (well done Skoda UK).

Lots of " I don't know, or they haven't told us from Salesperson"

On asking about the widely reported DSG recall issue (mineral oil to replace synthetic to stop a fuse blowing) and if it affects old/new Yeti's with DSG...."What recall are you referring to, we know nothing?"

Left with a less than warm feeling.

Ahh, someone that agrees with me  Ive looked at two now and I really dislike the now uncoordinated look as an overall design. Its lost its feel of integration and smacks of a bad mid life facelift. 'We'll ignore the curves from the roof bar lines to the window lines and stick on an angular, more agressive front bumper and stick a pair of corporate look headlamps on there'.  Despite the rumours beforehand I could never actually see them removing the charasmatic front fog design, real shame. Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Im in little doubt that they'll actually sell very well. :)

Absolutely agree with the above. The incoherence in the new front end and original side elements makes for a very uncomfortable overall design. Heavy handed use of straight lines and angles.

Whilst I understand the need to introduce the new design language, the efforts at integration have been less than successful in my opinion.

Sadly.

No replacement for Steel (Platin) Grey and Dealer no info if Metal Grey will become available.

With my current concerns with on going niggly reliability problems (one of which is DSG still giving issues...funny noises and out of warranty) next car decision on hold.

It's a rounded body like the bug-eye front, with the latest angular Skoda corporate face on it.

So I'm not that surprised it doesn't quite gell as an overall design.  The body is from 2009 and the face added on 4 years later to make the Yeti fit in with the rest of the range.

But then I would say that wouldn't I, as I have the nicely rounded off version with it's distinctive looks. :D

So pleased I have no intention/need to change for a while - hopefully the next Yeti will not have been designed by a myopic corporate committee!

There are a few improvements, but several of the existing bugbears still carry over - Emperor's new clothes AFAIC I'm afraid!

So pleased I have no intention/need to change for a while -

Thats where our cirsumstances differ - I was ready to put in an order for something new and shiney before christmas for a March or beyond delivery but I just cant find a suitable replacement! It was quite possibly going to be the first time in my life ive ever replaced like with like but I cant replace mine with a facelift version now ive seen it! :wonder:

Ditto.

Got an EV runaround now so the Yeti is doing less miles and will be kept for quite a while by the looks of it.

Not doing 25k per year in it means it can become a keeper. :)

Think I may have turned over a new leaf in rapid car changes. ;)

Hey there, Yeti people - don't let's knock our favorite marque/model! Facelifts are part of auto life.

They may have just carried on with the same body and some technical changes and that would have probably have been criticized, too.

So much about appearance is 'opinion' rather than 'fact'.

I was privileged to see a Facelift Yeti in the metal back in January, was banned from talking about it, though. However, I still ordered one of the last 'originals', even though I could have waited for f/l. Draw your own conclusions about that!

To repeat, don't knock our preferred Marque - it's a great buy!

It isn't a question of loyalty to a brand-there isn't another skoda that appeals to me-I think that the curse of corporatism is just that and that skoda have bought into the notion that making all their cars reemble each other is the way to go. If AUdi do it then it must be right???

Despite ordering a pre-FL I am ending up with the FL and will be OK with that - BUT I still think Skoda need to hear the 'criticism' by this forum and elsewhere of their corporate design strategy - I don't think people here are knocking the new Yeti as a package, just the design?

Permission to disagree Richard  :wonder:

The Yeti design is much older than 09 and of the same generation/profile of the 2004 Octy II which chassis partly underpins her. Hence why the new front fits so poorly IMHO. Superb II is a newer side profile and sits a lot better, as the shoulder is much less curved and does not extend up the B pillar as with the Yeti and Octy II.

Of course.  But I didn't say the design. :) (pedantic!)

Your statement of the design rather than the body is more accurate though.

I always saw the Octy mk2 Facelift as not only better looking (than the 2004 version) but being closer to the overall shape of the Yeti.

But yes, it's definately from a similar design point to the mk2 Octy.

Let's accept both positive and negative comments on the facelift (everyone is entitled to  an opinion).

It's a Skoda Yeti  forum not a we all love Yeti's forum although I'm sure most members do love them.

Balance adds to the experience.

It's not just the Yeti that facelift changes seem to be for the worse. Looking back over the years at most models, particularly Ford show mid term facelifts never seem to look right. They just seem to be some form of unnecessary panel bolt on  etc that often do not look as good as the original. The face of the Fiesta is often changed and never improves it's overall appearance. Personally I would never buy a mid term facelift, it will be followed by a completely new model within three years

I'm not to sure if it looks worse through the eyes of a pre F/L owner.  I personally like the look of both although I do agree that some of the character has been taken away.

When I was looking at buying a Yeti, I was finding that 2nd hand Yeti's with what I was looking for was around the same price (or just slightly lower) than what I could get with going though a broker for brand new.  With wanting a new car, I had no choice but to get a F/L Yeti which I'm personally very happy with.  Saying that,  all I have wanted over the last few years was a Yeti so I'm a very happy chap, be it post f/L

I agree with Sinky72' they have lost a bit of the original character, but like him had wanted a Yeti for a while. Having had 3 previous Skoda vehicles that have all been reliable, a Yeti suits my needs and with the 0%, more importantly, suited my pocket. I, like many haven't seen the F/ L in the flesh but because the changes are mostly cosmetic still like it.I may change it after three years, by then the new model may be available. Or if I don't like the new model, hang on to it. At the end of the day it is all about personal preferences, likes and dislikes. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing, or heaven forbid, drove the same car !!!

Agree with you to a big extent. However I think VW did a great job with the Tiguan facelift.

I'm sure you will find the Yeti an amazing package. Its a great car, facelift or not.

We all have opinions on aesthetics, which is what this discussion is about.

The design is ok on the whole...  but I found those humongous gaps in the Outdoor grille displaying the radiator and the polystyrene in the bumper at the bottom of it, just atrociously awful.  But I said as much when I saw the FL in September.

I hope someone makes a kit to put some extra vanes in that grille and pronto.

The grille photo looks very 1940's!!!

The grille photo looks very 1940's!!!

Hmmm.  Right.  And somewhere a couple of dozen feet behind are a pair of damned great fins!!!!  :wall:

My 2.0 litre diesel takes an eternity to warm up with the existing grill, I dread to think what implicaions this new grill will have in this respect.

Definate that don't like the large gaps in the grille and increased damage potential but on recent

viewing of F/L don't remember seeing any white polystyrene at the bottom of grille in dealer showroom.

Maybe an update since the German motor show or they now use black polystyrene?

Any further info available on the DSG recall (synthetic oil to be replaced by mineral oil) and if it affects Yeti's as Googling it comes up with vague information?
