vRS: Fraying seats or Fuzzing seat material. You had this problem?

My octavia has done 16,000 miles and is starting to show signs of wear on the right hand side of the backrest. Nothing to get to excited about at this stage though!

Hey all

This is my first post - both front seat covers of my fabia VRs are fraying after less than 1,000 miles. Worried to hear about how common this problem is, and even more worried about the lack of action from Skoda.

I'm going to contact dealer and SUK to see what they say.

Good to know I'm not alone though.

I've got a May 05 VRS which as yet is not showing the problem. However I'll be keeping a close eye on it...

Good luck with Skoda UK - usually deny there is a problem - fighting them at the moment - on my third recover in 18 months 46K miles

This is my first post, I have a 55 plate fabia Vrs and the drivers seat showed signs of fraying at approx 5000 miles. I took it to the Milton Keynes dealer who agreed to recover the whole seat without question. This was 3 months ago now!!!

When i contacted them i was told its a specialist part made to order. Is 3 months a comparable lenght of time in other peoples experience with this part????

They need a kick up the a.r.s.e dont they!!! I would ring them every day. That will get them moving!!

Just got a letter back from SMMT - they think Skoda have been reasonable, therefore uphold Skoda's decision. The seats have frayed because I have been mis-using them i.e sitting on them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has put me right off Skoda.

Oh well, my search for a new car will commence soon and I get dump this piece of junk.

The car has been fine but, I have had too many problems with the upholstery. drivers seat recovered twice, back seats recovered and a number of other mechanical problems which I have had to fight to get fixed every time. DEaler has been good, its Skoda UK their attitude stinks.

I have run Skodas for 6 years now and only recently have Skoda started to take this attitude with warranty claims.

They are still better than Seat, at least Skoda are honest about not wanting to help their customes instead of lying to them and trying to charge them for warrenty work like a certain dealership local to me.

The seats issue is one thing, my car will have been in for a squeaky seat base for the 6th time by next month.

42k miles & mine are properly knackered. Driver's right hand bolster is worn through. it started at 8k miles. I told skoda then (nov 2004), was told that it's an isolated case!! From the begining have thought that the upholstery was the weak(very) link in a fabia-lourus car.

It seems that your clothes don't make any difference to the amount of wear on the seat, just the number of times you rub past it. The wear rate slowed once i stopped doing deliveries!

it is green stiching, and bits or red trim too. its a quality job. pity the dealers wont let on who they use, bet i could save 25%.

This Leather is FANTASTIC. Can anyone though say how it compares to the Skoda OE leather upholstry that is an option when new? It looks like it will be better.

How does the leather affect the 'fit' of the seat? It looks as if the side (back and thigh) bolsters are less pronounced - are they?

My 2002 octy 1.9 tdi has drivers seat is totally knackered just out of warrenty when it worn thru. its the upright bit that holds you in nearest the drivers door. its totally worn through, fabric like paper

The leater retrim above will be the next thing i put mod money into; simple as. The current material ruins the rest of the car show-wise, and next season I want to be able to avoid the questions about my grubby, tatty and thin looking seats!

If I were a salesman it wouldn't be hard to shift those retrims despite the awful price because there are so many people out there with crappy seat material looking. Seats are, IMO, more comfy than the standard ones but I can't tell you why. they feel firmer.

I am still trying to discover who does these trims in order to cut out the dealership middleman. Imagine the rush for a group buy if they knocked a couple of hundred £ off the price.

alot of us have had our leather retrims done by the seat surgeons in York, the will do you any colour you want and the results are fab, had mine done in November last year and they still look like new. It will cost you about

Actually, has anyone got any high quality retrim pics they wouldn't mind me seeing? I'm looking to sort my seats after xmas, and if i can get a quality retrim for £800 instead of the dealerships staggering £1,350 i can have a new exhaust and some change into the bargain too!

mine has done 22k now fraying slightly,has anybody noticed like my drives seat can start to feel the wire on the base cushion,I know im not anorexic, but seems bit poor??

i had the same problem with my seat base, after only a year the foam cushion started to wear and you could feel the plastic under the foam cutting into my leg, got it fixed under warranty to a bit of work before they fixed it though. I got the leather fitted and the bonus with this is that the leather has thick padding on it and thus the seats same to wear better.

I to have to signs of the drivers seat starting to show signs of wear but i feel that talking to Skoda customer service is pointless their is no such thing as "customer service" those people are put in place to stop you doing anything like complaining. I had a problem with a Ford Focus talked to Ford customer service and meet with the spin doctor answer.

I turned up at the motor show during press day and door stepped the head man from Ford and only then did the earth move with a right royal effect. if all on this thread want action then get hold of skoda press office tell them that we the owners are putting togeather a press release to all the UK press including the motoring press (although skoda might have some of the motoring magazines in their back pockets re skoda advertizing so newspapers might be a better bet) including photos.

I can tell you that any press office hearing that would secretly unsettle them nobody likes BAD PRESS. So Briskoda get something togeather and get mailing for your members.

:orb_no_no I have an 06 fabia VRs and it too has fuzzing seat material on the front seats. I've been following these threads on seat fuzzing for several months now and I've seen from other peoples experiences with Skoda UK that there is no point trying to get any kind of satisfaction on a resolve under the warranty.

I think Skoda's response to our plight is disgraceful and this whole experience has made me extemely warey of Skoda's approach to customer relations. This is my first ever Skoda car and as a result of the many warranty issues I've already experienced, but moreover because of Skoda's official response to the fuzzing seat material issue , it will almost certainly be my last Skoda.
