I'd look at the accessories belt.

It's only when the high power draw message is up I think.

Although it was trying to regenerate at the same time.

Didn't do it on the way back without either. And only when the engines winding down, and when held on the 2500rpm soft limiter, the exhaust feels like a misfire, but that I'm leaning towards the soft limiter cutting fuel.

Car goes in today. Again.

The noise has changed, and literally sounds like something is about to fall off!

Luckily it's doing barely any miles as I'm on holiday at the moment.

Can anyone film their tdi to see if it does the same?

Mechanic thought it was the hpfp clicking but wasn't sure on the whine, it's coming from air box side of engine and he thinks it's the turbo/vnt but couldn't be sure.

When purchasing a new skoda or whatever car you as the consumer are not bound to accept repairs. They have an obligation to offer that as it is probably the cheaper option but they are also liable to offer a replacement or refund. Check the legalisation. I know as i am in this process whereby SUK are doing everything in their power to deny my cars problems and avoid rejection. When you are offered a repair (i mean a warranty repair) ensure you receive ample compensation otherwise reject the car outright and request replacement or refund.

This is my second car, replacing the first that had communication errors causing the start stop system to fail. That was apparently fixed after by the dealer with a software update.

This car has the same issues, but manifesting in a different way.

Finally got around to scanning the car.. And it's all a bit odd.

Some of the modules are now unreachable, when they were before, and the error (same as before they fixed it) is now coming up as "unknown".

What does that suggest? Poor design and an inability to solve the problems they create.

How quickly did you reject the car after purchase and the fault manifesting?

The car lasted a whole two months, with several major failures.  It's mostly documented in this thread.

Car bought last December, only put 2k miles on it (I do 3-400 a week!) and I was in several loan cars until it was replaced in May.

Fault was noticed immediately and reported to the dealer, and SUK, who did nothing until 6months later, when they investigated and blamed it on the camera I have fitted.

I persevered and they took it in last week, replacing the canbus gateway.

I pointed out while leaving the dealership on Saturday morning, that the status message of high power draw was still displayed, to which the service manager got quite shirty and rude to me and said "they all do that" and tried to claim it was only broken if a light came on, and it had done this while they had it, but couldn't tell me the light nor the error message.

I've got dual complaints going with SUK and VWFS, and I am actively pursuing it.

I've now sent my OWN logs of the vehicle directly to the both of them, bypassing the dealer entirely.

I've also noticed this thread has had over 180 replies, and nearly 15,000 views.  Just to take note if anyone from Skoda, or Vindis Skoda of Cambridge is reading.

Vindis have got annoyed with me in the past over reporting their shortcomings and asked me to "reconsider" what I have written, even though completely factual, they seem to disagree with events!

Protecting their interests most likely!

I smypathise with what's happening. I took delivery of brand new octavia September this year. Within a week I noticed external paint issues. To cut a long story short the car will need to be partly dismantled to effect paint repairs. SUK claim the fault is insufficient to warrant rejection, thus i doubt they understand the sale of goods act. Poor show for the brand. The dealer who initially suggested replacement vehicle now tows the corporate line and like parrot fashion can only utter 'warranty repair'.

Last Skoda i purchase. Very poor product indeed though I doubt any other manufacturers are better but I won't entertain Skoda after this one.

Instruments and central electronics can't be reached? I think they've made a right mess of replacing the CAN Gateway

I thought the same.

I thought my VCDS was out of date, then I realised it worked before!

However SUK have forwarded it onto technical. I'll get a reply after Christmas.

The part numbers of the can gateway are different than they were, which I expected.

However the old ones description line called it a "high" and this one calls it a "mid". Odd.

12.12.0 is very out of date, might be worth updating to v14.10.0

Yeah I know, but I can't. I got ripped off with what I thought was a genuine used lead and it was a fake.

Should be getting a new genuine one soon, funds depending.

Problem is that the version you are using was useless a year ago as it didn't have the dataset for the newer controllers back then, I wouldn't trust anything it is telling you on a car that has been manufactured recently.

Find someone with a genuine cable running 14.10.0 and throw the cheap Chinese fake away :)

Skoda flatly won't accept the diagnostic information, as it isn't from a dealer...

Oh joy. Another fight to get my bloody car fixed.

Did you get a genuine cable?

Did you get a genuine cable?

No, not yet. That's unfortunately waiting until February.

It's a long wait for a new toy.

Reading all of the posts here and others concludes to me that these are 'bad' cars. Maybe the rest of the range is poor to but I will never experience this.

All new car models tend to suffer issues but I am genuinely suprised how many issues this site discusses. From electronic issues, knocking noises, poor paint, terrible handling, inconsistent mpgs the list goes on and on. I find it hard to understand how skoda achieves customer loyalty and satisfaction based on what i read from consumers.

It's easy to see the negatives and I would rather not but I was a new skoda customer last year ordered and received my octavia estate. I soon discovered it's faults thus the bumper, bonnet and rear bumper will all need removing in order for a 3rd party paint company to sort out what the factory paint robots and subsequent QA could not do right in the first place. Add this to the centre airvent being replaced as the trim was bent and other pieces of trim that are clearly stuck on with sellotape and the occasional windscreen creak!

Not just an isolated case either. The new vRS loan car I used a few days was not up to scratch either, it appeared to be falling apart from the inside out and for a car of over £20000 it was a well specced as a lada from the 1980s. I don't see where the good value was

Sorry you are having a negative experience but in the interest of balance....on my 4th Skoda. No paint issues. No squeaks. No booming noise from the tailgate. No build quality issues. No DSG problems. Some minor issues but only what is to be expected over 250K odd miles.

Forums tend to accentuate the negatives - its in the nature of the beast. But I think a lot of people may post their issues here as this is normally a helpful and knowledgeable community that can help with problem resolution. It doesn't mean every Skoda is falling to pieces.and that they are all "bad cars".

I'll also add to the positives, as my Octy 3 has never put a beat wrong. Never had any work needing to be done to it except a normal service.

No booming noise, no clonking noise, no blistering paint, no electrical gremlins.

OK so Im not a big fan of the suspension setup, but I believe the cars being built now have a different suspension setup? Multi Link instead of Torsion Beam?

They aren't that bad a cars.

Also, out of all the problems being mentioned, the only regular one that seems to be a major problem is the booming noise.

True but I never wrote in terms of it being a sales pitch for skoda. I have owned a variety of vehicles and motorbikes from Renaults, mazdas, ford's, vauxhalls and porsche. All with their own good and bad points. Some of these have been brand new purchases. The skoda is the first car I have owned to be requiring dismantling within its first 6 months from new to correct problems. No other brand has been as poor as this in my experience.

I'm not personally sorry about the skoda issues as it was purchased as a forgettable family car with zero kudos. The brief for it was hassle free motoring which has so far proven the exact opposite.

I was intending to give the benefit of the doubt but alas no

I'll stick my hand up for 'good car' too.  Yes, there are some bits of my vRS which annoy me, and some which I wish were better quality - but I've got so much more kit and car for my money than I would with pretty much any other marque.  I've not had any problems which weren't user error, and it has coped superbly with absolutely everything that has been chucked at it (and in it) so far.

I've experienced both sides with the O3 - the first one was an absolute dog and spent over 6 weeks with the dealer in 12 months for issues to be rectified. Wiring short behind the dash requiring full dash removal. Numerous bits of trim falling off. Puddle lights staying on for hours. Faulty fuel pump. Bulb warnings for bulbs that are working. Faulty Columbus. Stop Start system errors. TPMS regularly telling me all 4 tyres were flat. Filler flap that popped open every time you closed the boot and a few more issues.

In the end I gave up and traded it in for another - which has been (so far) perfect in the first 2 months and 3000 miles.

I feel sorry for whoever has ended up with my first one!
