Reliability/build quality issues?

That's where the errors show up in, not sure on what errors there are now.

Damn lenovo and their weak screns that crack while the laptops closed and in a bag!

They are sub-modules of the CAN Gateway, so the errors will show up there.

Were you getting any errors logged on the ABS module as well?

I was playing at being a MasterTech at a different dealer today, they asked if I could start on Monday LOL

Sarah would never agree :D

Maybe not, but her other half works in the workshop in the same dealership so that may quash all your innuendo :)

And he PDI'd my car :)

Lol, how long now before you are after another car!!! Imagine what he has done to it to get his own back.

Transport blocks left in? Wires pulled out of back of Columbus? Not forgetting the wrong fuel he chucked in it

Oh i'm so evil :D

Just as an interesting note while I remember... My first 10k service is due soon, but the onboard computer wants it done a full 700miles before 10k is up.

Dealer can't offer an explanation for this... Anyone else know why? Is it the conversion to miles from kilometres that messes it up?

Correct, the computer is basing the calculation on 15,000km which equates to approx 9,300 miles.  My dealer said to ignore the computer and bring in on 10,000 miles if you are on fixed servicing.  If you are on variable servicing, you are restricted to a max of 30,000km, which equates to about 18,700 miles.

That explains that one then!

Had a nearly flat battery this morning, car struggled to start, wipers crawling across the screen when I cleared the dew off for a second when first started.

Really really odd. Dealer have advised I use skoda assist if it happens again to test the battery.

I'm guessing anywhere with a drop tester can do it? Or are the electrics too sensitive.

Which explains all your start stop and other electrical gremlins.

Doesn't explain why it's taken six months to materialise... Slow wipers randomly in the rain tonight too, and not parking in the same place every time (like an inch difference) with no accompanying high power draw message.

Ghost in the machine, take two!

Skoda should employ me as a tester for all new models at this rate.

Charge your battery :) at a guess it is that. Clip the earth on to the bulkhead, not the battery.

Charged it all night, no warning messages all of today but the battery charge state is going down slowly, but I know that isn't so accurate.

We shall see!

So a dodgy battery or battery control module. Get it booked in and tell them your battery went completely flat.

Its booked in for the 17th, dealers taken on board the latest info to speed their diagnosis and have told me to keep a close eye on it, if it gets worse to tell them and get Skoda assist out.

Still have the weird slow wipers occasionally, which clears if you flick it up a speed and back down again.

  • Author

So, problems back.

That only took 2-3 days!

Battery message is clearing faster than before, but I'm guessing it'll gradually get worse like before.

Looks like something isn't letting the battery charge properly, since it will plugged in over night.

No reoccurrence of the SS error, but I still can't pull the codes off.

Just have to wait until next Monday now!

Took the car in Saturday for inspection on Monday (yesterday) and had to chase them today for an outcome.

No outcome yet, but I only spoke to the girl on reception.

Something about dash cam to blame... I'll wait to start kicking off once I hear from a manager or technician.

Spoke to the master tech...

Can't find a reason for the start stop error.

He's put the high power draw message down to the camera (measured at 0.15-0.25A) but is going to investigate further after talking to him.

He can't work out why it slowly gets worse, or the other electrical problems and the car hasn't logged any faults apart from the high power draw.

Bit of a "computer says no" scenario, again.

So I have another car, with similar problems, and not logging fault codes. Again.

My car barely ever fires properly, always starts and never lets me down but is pretty tragic for such a new car. Has pretty much done it from new and dealers have never found any problem with it.

Im wondering whether these things are just fitted with cheap (and perhaps slightly too low ampage) batteries and maybe thats why it seems to **** about turning over.

I know how you feel though...nothing worse than having a pup and feeling like youre stuck with it; had a VW Polo a few years ago that was nothing but trouble (to be fair that was largely down to being shunted badly at 3 weeks old and being rebuilt over a 9 month period...I kid you not).

Run it for a week with the dash cam disconnected and see if there is any difference?

I will be doing when I get it back.

After speaking to him through, he seems to think there's something else going on. Which I agree.

FYI, little bit of maths, 0.12a is 0.9 amp hours over your average night parked up. Enough to trip the power monitor, yes. Enough to flatten a car battery? Debatable.

A report is being raised to SUK tomorrow about the lights staying on with the switch off, as h thinks somthing is amiss there.

Does sound like a dodgy BCM if your lights stay on.

A new BCM fixed my puddle lights staying on.

Its what I suggested too.

He wasn't so convinced however.

We will see what SUK say tomorrow, and I will try and remember to tell him about the HHC "quirks" tomorrow also. Being that it seems to stay engaged when it shouldn't sometimes.

  • Author

So, nothing found.

No reason for the SS error as far as he can tell, and he can't see how with how much I drive, the camera is causing the battery to die.

He did a basic settings reset/recode of the BCM and now we just have to wait and see.

Does this sound normal to anyone else?

Doesn't sound normal to me but it also doesn't sound like turbo noise...

Sounds like something rotational like a pulley bearing or water pump. Given the electrical problems you are having, could it be the alternator ?
