New Golf R

Keith, he isn't interested in just web deals, he needs to know that someone has successfully used them and is happy with the service provided. He really will not countenance me just giving him links he can find himself. If someone on here has used a Lease deal or similar, then I can show him the page and he may well investigate further.

Anyone? I know there has been an awful lot of talk and posting of deals over the months, surely someone put there money were the collative Brisky mouth is?? :(  I could go to a Golf site, but apart from I'd have to join to ask the questions, I don't really know (in an internet stylee of course) anyone on those sites.

Wish I could help more. FWIW I used Leaseplango, and they have been excellent. They have a Driverline that you call and they sort everything out from booking in services to mobile tyre replacement. All included.

The down side is the price has gone up somewhat.

Now at 6 + 23 x £357 inc Vat - with full maintenance & tyres.

The tyre replacement includes punctures etc (I've already had one repaired & one replaced - no quibble)

Full maintenance and tyres isn't so bad. Wonder what that works out as in monthly payments value (if you see what I mean)

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

I would rather speak to someone, even if it's by this thread, than just point him to a another website. I had hoped a trusted member would appear with the news I wanted ;( mind you there is still time :)

I might suggest he looks at the M135 if nobody comes forward :D

Perhaps he should get off his ass and do the leg work!!

They do a business deal which is

£260 + vat per month (10k, 23 +6) - no maintenance or tyres

£281 + vat per month (10k, 23 +6) - with maintenance & tyres

The personal deal is only available with full maintenance & tyres

Not wanting to promote them too much, as I can only speak from my experience, but when I asked about delivery to my home address, they were only too happy to put it on a low loader. I know a lot of other lease companies charge extra for this.

They also don't have any admin charges. Quite often these range from £150-300 extra.

A very professional company :)

I was guestimating that the extras would add up to about £40 a month, so the dry hire of the vehicle is something like £320 a month. Passed this all on to him and sent him a page link. Thanks :)

Think I might just have got a colleague to get an R on a Contract hire deal. He just needs to persuade his partner that she can get the baby and all the associated paraphernalia in it :D

Not wanting to put words in mouths, but I think she likes the Golf R, just prefers the BMW135i

In a similar way to how I prefer the Golf R to the 135i :)

Both great cars.

I do realise that this post can now be 'seen' Sorry!

:D That's OK. Although you did clarify his confusion. Sadly he hasn't bothered to read the countless times I have said I like the Golf R :( It's cars that pretend to be Golf R's that I don't like.

Just you have stated previously it has less fun handling because it is not RWD & can't get the back end out & has "a soulless 4 cylinder" exhaust note.................

That is why I couldn't believe you would recommend one.............

& as for the "cars that pretend to be golf "R" that I don't like"................I know what you are referring too, & again you like to totally mis-read what I post, I NEVER stated mine was an "R". Just that someone was looking to buy an "R" estate before there were any in the UK & wanted to have look at them so it was recommended he drives an R hatch & also the nearest spec estate available to the R in the UK at the time to get an ideal of size on the road.

My QUOTE:- "I recommend also taking a GT spec estate out for a test drive as this has the same -15mm ride height as the forthcoming R estate & will also give you an idea of the length etc of the car! Also a GT estate is Very similar in terms of internal trim to the R...............only items which can't be spec'd up is R badges, steering wheel centre boss, look & colour of speedo & revs, & the seats have the alcantara on the side & cloth in the centre (GT has the opposite, but the same sports seats.)."

Way back in my post no. 1951 on page 66..............

Some people do like to totally mis-read & wind up & when you give them a taste of their own medicine all hell breaks loose.............  :dull:

A friend at work used Jet Vehicle Finance. Chatted to him this afternoon and he'd use them again. Think for the R, that's the 2nd time he's used them.

Here's the Golf deals. Looks like the Wagon is cheaper than the hatch at the moment! Info for each model also gives a decent breakdown of initial deposit again monthly cost, which helps.

http://www.jetvehiclefinance.co.uk/VOLKSWAGEN/35/GOLF/267

Seat have 0% on Leon Cupra's. On Leaseplango the non Sub8 option is £444 per month with a 6 month deposit, so £2600 ish. Seat do it on PCP with a £2600 deposit for £415 per month. Both are 36 month durations and have a 10k milage limit. Obviously the maintenance is something to consider.

Some food for thought I'd say since R's deals seem to be less frequent.

Thanks for the heads up. Will pass it on. I've not been in a Wagen yet, but assume it drives reasonably similarly to the hatch.

I think I sold him on the R because of the safety margin the 4x4 might give him in the inclement weather and remote locations that we sometimes work in. He's a young chap and full of testosterone, so he realises that he might push the car quite hard on occasion, obviously not with his child on-board..

Could be a double benefit, if he was after a DSG anyway. Given it's non-negotiable on the estate and he'd be paying more for it on the hatch (which is already more per month).

It's funny but more is sometimes less :) When we sold Motability cars, the car was always cheaper with metallic paint than without.

That's certainly the reason why I would stick with AWD - not as a substitute for winter tyres :notme:

My S3 understeers in the 'damp' if i push it around a corner, I suspect the Cupra will a tad more.

Better than the hatch, having driven R hatch, & hatch & estate in 2wd the extra weight on the rear axle in the estate keeps the rear planted more. Even in the tests/reviews of the R estate they state the rear is more planted than hatch, also because it is 1ft longer after rear axle than the hatch the extra length of roof aero helps. It also helps with the front/rear weight distribution, ie it balances out the nose weight.........

The MK7 estate does not pendulum the rear around the corners at all (not with the multilink rear), & does not fit into the stereo type of "barge/beached whale" handling. The R estate is one those cars which slip under the radar as everyone goes for the GTI or the R hatch................

Aren't estates often considered to be slightly more aero in a straight line and so a teeny weeny little bit faster, not that it matters.

Fast estates rule :-)

See page 88. Road test of Golf R Wagen. Tester Thomas Majchrzak was soo good and funny for a German. Check it out

Nice but.

Think I could live with £130k left in the bank and 0.5 slower 0 to 60 mph, having probably more usable room and easily used and more fun on UK B roads.

What am I talking about - back on topic Golf R Estate :

My point exactly....................

Chris Harris loves the R Hatch, & is considered to be very good at driving & testing a car.......& although he wants to spend loads of money (or not) & have the biggest name/engine in the car park he still goes for 4WD & an "estate/shooting brake". this just proves how good than combination is for usable grip/handling, he puts his money where his mouth is.

& as you state the Golf R estate for a small drop in performance (& huge price drop) which you will not notice on UK roads has got to be near perfection for a daily driver do anything road car due to the fact he (CH) loves the hatch............

Anyway according to some people it is a soul less car, not as much fun etc etc, & therefore CH must know nothing........................just means more cars available for us people who appreciate these things.........Just a shame VAG decided to not fit the manual gearbox otherwise I would have ordered one.............& then ripped of the stupid OTT exhaust system..............mind you I don't know how long my license would have remained clean thou............... :notme:

In light of my car swap requirement, I'm now looking at this thread in a new light! :D

So I demand to know why there aren't any decent R hatch deals about at the moment! :P

(Wagon won't get sign off by SWMBO I wouldn't have thought)
