New Golf R

Featured Replies

Talking MPG figures about cars with 'R' or 'M' in their name is just plain wrong! You should be ashamed of yourselves!!! :D

And no, M-sport doesn't count!

I want to hear more 'booting it' stories and how these cars are to live with. As on the fine day that I buy myself a hyper-hatch, MPG will be the last thing on my mind.

Ally,

Hope you get your desired M135i soon.

Best of luck.

Talking MPG whilst youre on holiday.

Come on mate. You should be ashamed of yourself ;)

I know, 'kin madness lol! ;-)

Seemed like a good idea at the time haha

I'm thrilled I have regularly got as low as 24mpg in my leon. I'm sure others could do better.... :)

I regularly get 36+ on a steady motorway run. Drops to 30-31 if the drive home involves "good progress"

As well, that's a good combo then. Shows the flexibilty of your 310plus Leon Cupra.

I know that they are Sporty cars and economy should not matter and its all about being a quick driver etc etc.

But for the 5 days of a week that maybe people just need to commute at the same speeds as for the area they drive and all the other traffic is moving at, it would be good to know if the Golf R with DSG is better at using less fuel than the Manual box cars.

Hopefully over time we will get a real idea from Owners with these cars, Manual or Automatic, and running All Season Tyres or changing to winter tyres in the Winter Months.

Then there is the question of do the drivers use 95 RON Unleaded or 97/99 Ron Super unleaded.

Or just forget all that rubbish and 'just add fuel', and when more is needed put it in.

(£180 annual VED seems like a bargain for a rather uneconomic 2.0 litre car on fuel,

when you compare with a older VW like a Golf R32 (3.2 litre/ 246 bhp) which are £290, £490 or £505 a Year depending on Year and Manual or Auto.)

This video has been posted before,(lots probably by me.)

It sums up best IMO why the Golf R is so special as a Daily Driver and Jack of All Trades, and if it does not suit alternatives are out there. (including the R Estate which i really am looking forward to getting a drive of.)

I always use record momentum 99. Commute on manual s3 is anywhere between 38-44mpg average depending on traffic

I once got 39mpg from a 500 mile return trip to London in my Scooby Turbo!!

I had to do it all on a space saver with a 50 (ish) limit :D

I nearly did. Almost doubled my regular MPG :D

I usually get 28mpg from my urban sprawl & odd hoons.

However I did a 350mile round trip at the weekend & achieved 35mpg. I was dead chuffed. Probably the highest mpg I've had in 3 years :)

999pooch,

OMG,25% improvement over your norm.yea have sinned.

Menopausal man setting in mate.

In Race or Boring Eco mode? Lol

Or a change to your driving style for the day?

Manual or DSG.

Well that's another reason not to use valet parking, I am also guessing the R is now becoming a target vehicle for vehicle thiefs?

I've read that a couple of places elsewhere, and not the daily fail either. I'd imagine the civic and the focus just as much. Lot to be said for a Q car...

Crazy kind of money really.

If i had that sort of dosh i would be going for a V60 Polestar that is already about £15,000 down on the RRP.

Both are at or over list, when I ordered my R I went through Orangewheels and got over £4k discount via a genuine VW dealer, have to wait till January for it though.

Similar to RS3 - RARITY value initially I guess but better value package than RS3@ £45k

Yeah I posted on here  couple of months ago about Orangewheels offer but as you say the waiting time 6 months now

My Partners B  in L got his at list with a few added extras thrown in - 5 month delivery for Sept 2015.
