  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Have to sell one of my other cars though... but yes strongly looking at this, mileage dependant as I do slightly more than this and it's 17p a mile I think.

Still don't know what they're going to do with all these 2nd hand R's once the leases end!

But that's their problem, not yours :D

Will be really interesting to see how values on the 2nd hand market look, a couple of years down the line.

There won't be any - they'll have all blown up because of the idiots modifying them ;)

Haha - there'll be some interesting discussions about the lease agreement then, trying to hand it back! :D

Don't....go...there...please. Or at least hide this thread from Georgeski!

He was just being Devils Advocate. In your best interest Steve.

I know. It's all a bit of fun banter :)

I think he's driving a different car. DSG is a bit clunky, but hardly messy driven manually (he's right on that part, it's the only way to drive it once warmed up). Turbo lag? I'm not sure what the man is smoking, the engine pulls strongly from 2k and goes bananas as 5. The engine is the star of the show!

A faulty window lifter switch would really annoy me, in fact most of those faults are more than just a minor irritation, certainly not something you'd tolerate on £30k+ of car, whatever the brand.

I don't know about that, there are a few things that are not perfect on the R, but after a decent blast all is forgiven :) the chasis & engine are the saving grace, such a beautiful car to drive.

Golf R quoted as 57 pence per mile by "What Car?" I see.

VW quote almost 40 mpg for the manual boxed version and 41 mpg for the DSG, but some of the road test I see show more like low 30s is more like what is being experienced.

I see the recommend 98 Octane fuel for the Golf R, so either Shell or Momentum required, and it gets a 12 gallon tank instead of 11 gallon to help out with the potential reduced range when driven with spirit.

Mine consistently returns 34 mpg average ,resulting from a real mix of driving condition. So I'm happy with that return from brisk fun runs and leisurely meandering, chilled run to the daily commute.

Sounds like the 20% that most people say they get less than the manufacturers figures.

My usual journeys are between 100 and 200 miles and I think this helps me get closer to the 45 mpg for the Fabia 2 VRS, still find it a pain having to fill up every 400 miles or so though ie often every other day.

You using Momentum or Nitro as your usual fuel??

They seem to give the same power to me but maybe the Shell a bit smoother.

On the Golf R MPG has been replaced with SPM.

SPM (Smiles per Mile) seems to be very high and much more important than mpg :)

A few 280 owners are claiming high 30s for theirs, they must have faulty trip recorders, mine struggles to get above 33. I've just driven from my house in Pembrokeshire to Norwich, average 33.0, mostly M4 and M25 at a steady indicated 70-75 plus about 30 minutes of slow moving passing a shunt on the M4. Auto Express found the same with their long termer, at best 31-32, maybe 34 if really careful, spirited = 26-28.

I've checked mine using an excel sheet and full fill ups (I do about 1500 miles a week to it's not been too hard to get a bit of data!) and the TC is almost bang on in my car. If they are all correct, there is a huge difference between cars that must be more than the pressure of the drivers' right foot.

Steve,

Might be even better after the re-map.

Does your motor go in today for the uplift?

Any joy with the numbers game yet.

Guess it will be down to selling one of your other motors, if the figures turn out  okay.
