  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

lease car?!

Think it would move along quite nicely, don't you?

Indeed. And once it's moving along quiet nicely... Uprated ic, intake and exhaust plus stage 2 tuning for 3.6 seconds to 60! :)

lease car?!

It's a lease car 100% won't say anymore as I don't want to incriminate.

I am not whiter than white, and I'm not preaching, but I certainly wouldn't put as many details out their based on what he's done ;)

Who are we talking about here? Do you mean the car used to produce the attached RR result??

yep :)

yep :)

not quite sure what that has to do with the R thread as its not even Sharks car afaik but back on topic - I can honestly see myself in a mapped R estate in the future and now Shark have done the work I'm even happier to think that way! :)

Well there's now another, even quicker, Golf to choose from:

Fabia 90TSI SE L

No amount of re-mapping is going to get the Golf R to compete with this!

MPG not applicable as well!

Correct... as its electric.

edit - some of the time. ;)

Little of the time really.

1.4 TSI,  engine of the Year 5 consecutive years.

VW & Electricity and UK Technicians, are made for each other.

'What is the Worst that can happen'

One can envisage a day when the aftermarket battery business is booming.....

Little of the time really.

But that's a totally different engine isn't it? The one that won the awards each year was the twincharged lump in the Fabia VRS, no?

It was,

it is only VW that like to confuse with the same name, be it Turbo, Dual Charge and even Cylinder Deactivating / Cylinder on Demand.

Many years on the 1.4 TSI / TFSI and you never know if they have reached the peak of reliability & efficiency,

or are still a unreliable liability.

Ok, so i'm now lost. My point is, you were aiming criticism at the GTE's engine based on an entirely different engine... The new one has nothing in common to the twin charger engine and from test drives of the current 1.4tsi, I rate it highly. :)

Entirely different set up other than to the Base Engine Unit, which they now run at less than the 180 -185 ps they did with the Super Charger & Turbo on.

Turn the wick down and they are better with 150 ps or so.

They never yet changed the Service Schedule / Guidelines on the likes of changing Spark Plugs,

so time will tell how they last.

Yes different, and now getting Oil Squirters fitted to faulty earlier engines as well as Revised for the 2nd Time Breather Pipes,

and revised engines from 2012 are now failing.

No word from VW what the Design, Manufacturing or Quality Control Failures were,

Like with the DSG Service Campaigns.

VW are very good, but a bit naughty with Advanced Technology and using the Buying Public as Real World Road Testers,

and not putting up their hands and owning up when they mess up.

Treat Paying Customers like Mushrooms.

Vorsprung Durch Technik

At least with the Dual Electric and 1.4TSI you can maybe get home before calling out the Recovery Service

if VW have got it wrong yet again, and do not bother to forewarn Owners with a Friendly Chat

and some Press Releases.

Just thought I'd add some Golf R content to this page...

2013-golf-r-front-2.jpg

It must be time for a MK7 Golf R Face Lift surely.

Sorry OT,

48 pages on in the 'R' thread and not wanting to start a 'Golf GTI' one

?

So is there any very good deals on a New Golf GTI out there at the moment that anyone knows of ?

Sorry OT,

Why not? That would be the best idea.

There was a recent 'Too many Golf Thread' thread and it was not about funny clothes.

So i will just ask here,

but now i have had a look see, so scrub my polite request for some assistance.

Anyone heard any more about the Golf R estate? VW seem to have gone quite quiet on that front. I thought I saw one at a VW dealer in Darlington a while back but couldn't tell if it was an R as it was dark and it was parked round the side of the building.

im guessing the twin charger wasn't a good engine ;) lol

anyway

No, it wouldn't be an R estate as they aren't being delivered for another few months (12 week expected lead time on initial orders) - one dealer told me they could be ordered and one told me not yet though - and could even confirm the actual price for me - this was two weekends ago.

kenny,

twincharger was a great engine, they are still selling Seat's with them in

but VW were a bit lax on quality control and communications with Dealerships and customers.

the 1.4 TSI none Twincharger was International Engine of the year or runner up for 9 years,

obviously the 160 & 170 ps ones had some issues, that VW just like to forget those issues.

VW make nice cars, but sometimes bling takes more importance than reliability, and it is Penny Pinching that

causes the failures, and VW's slow response to reports of issues, or Dealership Technicians not communicating back to VW.

Are we saying the same totally off topic thing again then?
