New Golf R

Yes, it would appear so Lee. I can create separate topics for people, about other engines and other lease deals, if they're not able to hit 'new topic' themselves?

I don't mean to be overly blunt, but it's not difficult.....

In other news, November's VW press release says the following:

UK Retailers are due to start taking orders for the new car in spring 2015, with first deliveries in the summer.

No, it wouldn't be an R estate as they aren't being delivered for another few months (12 week expected lead time on initial orders) - one dealer told me they could be ordered and one told me not yet though - and could even confirm the actual price for me - this was two weekends ago.

My last communication with VWCSUK (30thJan.),was that Orders will be taken late spring. However,no details /spec literature or online yet available or known.

late spring isn't long away now Keith!! :)

So, Keith, are you going to jump?

it would be interesting to compare the official Golf 400 with a sharked  / revo'd up R. Do you know what mods, if any, VW are making to the EA888 II engine? This could be highly important....

Or this package,as previously mentioned:http://www.evo.co.uk/volkswagen/golf/13823/oettinger-vw-golf-r

That being said I'm supremely happy with my current R.

But who knows what R 400 details will be strategically leaked soon!Or indeed upgraded R facelift/power!

Well, point being if VW squeeze 390 out of the 2.0 TSI without doing tooo much to it, then maps away chaps!

With all the hikes in Bhp I won't be surprised if another 20bhp or so is added to the R/S3 come facelift

Really looking forward to seeing the Golf R Estate in the metal. Should be quite some machine :-)

Just done an analysis of Golf R's at VW Dealerships in UK - demo or used.

Average asking price of the 63 cars above is £33000

Used prices are false at main dealers tho as they take advantage of options and people who want car there and then.

I got my S3 new less than the used S1

Kenny,

I'm sure you wouldn't have paid £40k+ that's for sure.

Might take a look at Audi S3s demo and used later, if I have time.

Yip used prices are crazy!! My S was high 20s

Me too!!

What mileage on yours.

Only 6k lol

Only 6k lol

Same as my R ,just turned 6k on Monday.

It would be interesting to find out what sort of trade-in value for say the RS3.approx. from the Audi dealers.

I wonder if they have the balls to give you one?!

Hell of a jump to approx. £40k for the base model ,when compared to the S3, with not a massive increase in overall performance, handling, comfort etc.

Oettinger tune and make a bit more sexy, for approx.£6k and similar performance .(360-400 bhp package)?

Fell that Audi will have to offer some very attractive deals, with the competition from other coming shortly, (Honda and Ford.) at potentially much lower prices. The exceptions being,a face lifted A45 AMG or indeed the R400 if it breaks into "real" productions volumes. May be others not yet broken cover.

Passed a Lapiz Blue Golf R YK14 on the A1 southbound  this afternoon, just North of Wetherby (I was on my way home from Catterick), was it anyone from here with one?? Unlikely to be you Keith, wrong end of the country!

Dare I say the RS3 will probably be great, I think they have focus in handling more than headline power figures. The engine should bring more character the 2ltr is just well a 2ltr. Now is it worth the extra cash? No idea and doubt I will find out.

I guess the nature if going a little faster always starts costing more and more. I'm guessing selling point will be wide power and torque curves rather than peak. 5cylinder and better handling

I got a good discount on my S specially when it was so new out but no way I will get that on any RS or R400

I doubt there will be many super deals, Audi can't sell the RS3 too cheap or it'll screw up the S3 market.

Buying cars is the law of diminishing returns.

Spending £40k instead of £30k won't get you 25% more performance, toys or space.

What it will get you is a more capable car that's less of a common sight on the roads.

You can buy a perfectly good new car for £12-15k, over this you seem to get less and less for the more money you spend.

Comparing an aftermarket tuner to an official manufacturer product is also rather pointless.  Different market.

If I was planning what to buy in the next year or two for a super-hatch I'd be most interested in the Ford.

Doesn't need to be expensive.

My recent experience shows that Ford have VAG licked when it comes to fun.  That's what a super hatch should be about.

Not bragging to your mates how many bhp you have, how fast it goes round the ring or even how much you spent.

That's why there isn't another fun hatch I currently want instead of the ST.

Ford have pretty much always had VAG licked when it comes to fun, but I'm not sure that's saying an awful lot

I just put some money down an a BMW 1 series (whiles they still make them :( ) and for me, that's a fun car. I like the 'squiggle' out of corners, as Chris Harris puts it. But I fully accept that no BMW, Ford or Honda type R can match up to the Fabia 2.0 petrol. It really is the King and we know it.

more fun is where it's at for sure
