  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

I thought we were talking about a Golf R or S3 hence R/S3.

Not RS3. :)

No, new Golf R and S3 are the same car underneath.

Ohh right well if it is anything like the previous S3 it will be a brilliant car to drive :)

The old S3 wasn't that good to drive, loads of traction but little feel.

More of a stamp on the gas and go car.

The newer version and Golf R are much better.

Like the look of the new TT too that should be a really good car as that's always been based on the Golf / A3 chassis

Been in a TTrs. Very nice, quick, smooth. Just seemed a little, quiet, too smooth and refined. Kinda made it a little boring compared to others. I thought anyway.

TT-RS, too quiet, too smooth, too linear power delivery and not enough headroom to wear a helmet.

Very capable though and technically great engine.

Overall I was disappointed, found it a bit boring.

Exactly. I agree.

It is a nice car, just missing a certain excitement factor IMO. Excitement has to be quite high up the list if you're after a high powered 2 seater, surely. Just seemed abit, flawed.

To be fair I considered it a typical Audi S/RS of the time. (2010) in that it was clearly very capable but a bit lacking in the involving/excitement stakes.

Something certain other cars do too, to make them really good they have to engineer out the driver's ability a bit.

Nice to see that the Golf R/S3 and RS6 seem to have learned from that and are more fun to drive.

Would of had more room in a roadster!

Ahh dont say that. Thats ruined it for me haha.

One of the top cars on my 'I want, one day' list is an RS4.

Never been in one. Love the sound and everything about em, but now your telling me it might be boring! Haha

I can recommend the New RS6, a very nice car to hoon around in, and to the uninitiated they just think it's an Audi Avant.

Indeed, much better than the RS4 in my opinion.

Err... no.

Its always the size that makes me think rs4 though.

I find the rs6/a6 abit too big of a car

There isn't a huge difference.

I went in to buy an A6 AllRoad and ended up with an A8... :D

I havent taken a detailed look, but Christ the A8's are a wide car haha.

Yes, I went in to a dealer and realised the Audi (we'll charge you for every little nice extra) options list made the A6 only a little cheaper than the A8 and overall quite expensive.

Add in the Carwow prices and the A8 had a much bigger discount so it came out thousands cheaper than the A6 with a lower kit count.

Not that I'd even considered an A8 before as it wasn't on my radar due to being considered a massive barge.

Only because there was one in the showroom and I happened to ask what the spec was like did it all go a bit wayward.

It seems one of the few Audis where they don't bend you over in exchange for getting a decent spec.

They depreciate like there is no tomorrow, but I did get £22,000 off.

Anyway I digress and we've gone a bit off-topic.

Christ. When you say it like that it makes sense. £22,000 is loads if money to buy a fiesta ST for the back roads and then have plenty of change.

Yes. Sorry, im pulling this off-topic arent i haha.
