  • For 23k I'd be in a Cayman.  Not a bleeding Polo.

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

I am looking at getting the S3 and liked this colour but with the black styling pack. seeing these pics confirms I like the colour but not sure I would need the black pack?

The black pack wasn't out when I got the car. Tbh for me my car is a good balance for my taste but everyone is different

A colleague of mine turned up for work a few days ago in his new S3 Saloon. First one I have seen in the flesh. Look terrific, like a mini hard core A4 :)

Like the saloon a lot. Best proportioned Audi saloon in quite some time, IMO.

Totally agree. I was quite smitten with it in fact. Now a RS3 salon would be something special (assuming it handled well ;) )

One for the fans Kenny - http://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/used-car-locator/a3/2.0-300ps-quattro-s-tronic/northampton/605181177-1057008.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_

Don't see many out and about a nice look though.

Will there be a R Saloon, NO, only a hatch and estate me thinks .

I suppose a lot of it comes down to whether the Yanks can persuade Audi to build one. They certainly want one. But I suspect the price would be crazy money and if I could afford that kind of car, I would probably have to have a very serious look at a Cayman instead.

Saw a Golf R estate on the road earlier (near a vw dealer).

Looked nice!

Not into the dark blue though

Sadly he didn't make it.

 Very sad indeed!

Scirocco R lease offer on UKHotdeals today.

I know little of such things so make your own minds up.

"However at just £129.99 + VAT on a £2,200 + 23 payment profile based on 10,000 miles per year"

Non-business add 20% VAT.

Yes, I agree each to their own... that's why I've ordered one in Daytona grey no black pack  :p

VW Sirocco R 280ps is a very Marmite car with a rather high RRP and a model VW UK Dealerships can not really get many of shifted. *Front wheel drive only not AWD, so pretty much like a Seat Leon Cupra which i hear is to become available with 290 ps*

(Not to be confused with Sirocco R-Line 150 / 184ps Diesels or 180ps Petrols with a rather high RRP and a model VW Dealerships can not really get shifted.)

Personally every time i see one i think WTF were they thinking of.

& that, They might as well have let Skoda have the 3 Door Coupe & some kind of Sporting Model.

Getting a discount on these Siroccos should be easy enough.

Volkswagen pricing in the UK seems to be all over the shop.

But whatever they price the Golf R Estate at i really do like them and in this last week i have seen more

Estates on Scottish roads than Golf R hatches. About 5.

That's because people are moving from Skoda Octavias as the only Skoda dealership for miles around is now Arnold Clark up here! Masses of new VWs compared to Skodas since the dealership was sold. Loads of  MK7 Golf estates up here, especially since I got mine, I think I started a new trend!

Golf R estates last week.

Full Fat AWD new cars, not the lesser variety versions.

or cars with R-Line on them which is just a confusion even to ardent car spotters.

My Missus's brother-in law, can't wait to get his R Estate on the 1st Sept and off load the E Class Merc Estate.

Does anyone know if there is much of a change to the Exhaust on the Golf R Estate compared to the hatch other than the need to alter lengths.? (Longer on the Estate)

The ones i have heard on full chat are different to my my ears than the Golf R hatches i have heard and driven. ie nicer.

That is the noise you hear outside of the car as an observer.

(i have only driven & listened to Golf R's with DSG, not always sure if cars you spot or hear are Manuals.)

Well I drove a Golf R for 270 miles yesterday, a year old car with manual 'box,

Have to say I really liked it, found it a bit Press on, as in it wanted you to "drive" it all the time, also the exhaust noise tended to become a little intrusive after a few hours. Being bank holiday Friday it took 7 hours to complete the journey, did a few Miles Cross Country trying to avoid the motorways.

Incontrast to the New S3 S-Tronic I delivered which was a bit more relaxed to drive, also felt a lot calmer over the 270 miles to the customer, also just felt a bit more Comfy to be in.

Out of the two, I think I might have to go for the "R" for Cross Country work, because of the rush it will give you working the 'box. For longer trips the S3 would just get the nod due to its better comfort and not so intrusive exhaust noise.

So yes I sit on the fence, which means they are both very good cars,

Given a choice, I'd take an RS3, have done about a 1000 miles in one now and it really does get under your skin!

Did you have the exhaust in sport mode?

If so I can understand what you are saying but go individual and set exhaust to eco and its virtually silent, well it is on a dsg.

Not sure if the manual is that different?

Did try it in Race Mode and Comfort, can't say I noticed a difference.

Sounds like a nice job though :) envy

Difference between Race & Eco is chalk & cheese. Race is loud & fairly boomy. Eco is practically silent :)
