Perhaps he did get a good discount. After all they may have inflated the Merc PX to make your Partners b- i- l feel he had made a wise purchase a few years ago and then not offering much discount to make him think that the new car would have great residuals. It's the price to change that counts.

Bit more detail,he placed order for R Estate in May 2015,getting a fixed PX value on the Merc. Dealer throw in Pano Roof and Sat-nav. Agreement £380/ month on 10000miles and 36 month PCP.

Can't really tell if that's a good deal unless we know the part ex value/equity

I think as his is a white Golf R he was having a VERY tongue in cheek dig at the ricer brigade...............white car, very fast.

To late, I am spouting drive already.  I bloom Mr Peroni and Thornton's Rum Trifles. Will go for a drivel tomorrow with my DLR camel and take sum tinctures of the local Jif Skeeners at Sold Whiter Pork

it's going to be so interesting to see how VW and MB make a drivable 2.0 engine with 400+ bhp. I remember when 200 bhp from a turbo car caused big lag :D It has to stop somewhere............doesn't it? (please don't quote the Brabham bhp figure from their old 1.5 F1 engine :D)

Popped into my VW dealer today, asked about the R400 they still have no official idea on the engine but even the chap really hoped they go with RS3, it fits the MQB platform so would make sense.

They have been asked by VW UK to submit numbers of what they have as potential R 400 customers based on their interest and buying habits of previous performance Golf's from the dealership.

As you say a four pot with that amount of bhp will be interesting, my big concern is lack of proper noise, if they stick with a reworked four pot with new pistons and a few other bits the die hard noise/power addicts may not follow.

Too right mate.

Inline fours just arent interesting, and power wont solve that.

If the 5-pot from the RS3 makes it into the R400 I'd be loving that. As it stands tuning a 2L 4-pot to 400bhp isn't all that appealing tbh. :-)

I can't believe Audi would allow the 2.5 to go into the Golf, especially if it undermined it's own RS3 models. Shame really, I love that engine and have driven it in the previous generation TT RS
