New Golf R

Featured Replies

Yes full VW main dealer, they registered it last week to go as a demo and it has clocked 289 miles, so not been driven by too many :)

I was looking into a new Polo gti or trying to arrange a test drive but matey let slip he had just registered a Golf R.

I like that fact there is nothing screaming at you about its capabilities a bit like the 135i, very understated.

It isn't even being advertised up for sale as such.

Yes it was me toying with the 135i but my local BMW dealer wanted to pull my pants down first time on my trade in, so couldn't be bothered going back, you get one chance to treat customers right and leave a lasting impression and they got it wrong.

The VW dealer offered me sensible money where I consider my short ownership a "rental fee" based on my purchase price which was very good and the trade in value.

So all happy so far and decided to stay as local as possible in case of any defects or problems. Also this group have performed exceptionally over the past few years of owning a couple of Skoda's.

Good stuff, are you doing the deal with PCP?

Is that the dealer in Barnstaple?

  • For 23k I'd be in a Cayman.  Not a bleeding Polo.

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Just bought a standard white G7R, DSG for £27,995 pre reg with 289 miles on clock, not sure if its a good price but I was happy with the deal! Pick it up in a couple of days.

They are taking my 8 week old Fiesta ST 3 for sensible money too!

Very nice! Sounds like a reasonable deal to me if you compare it to the current "Drive the Deal" prices online.

Hope you haven't lost too many ££££ on the Fiesta.

Going to be a huge jump up in quality and performance which I'm sure you will enjoy.

Shame you didn't get chance to re-visit the M135i plan- but I can understand you not going back to the local dealer if they had tried to shaft you on a trade-in first time around.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on with the 'R', and don't forget to post up some pics once the beast arrives! :-)

Still do love the straight 6 sound of the 135i but the R has a really good synthesised noise in "Race" mode with turbo pops in between gear changes :)

And I'm 50:) I will grow up one day.

What's the cheapest someone has found a new Golf R for? Specced up a 5 door DSG wit hteh £960 white paint and £90 tinted windows which came to £33,950 and on Carwow got a garage offering it for £29950! Very very tempted.

Its around £28,200 on drive the deal so dowt jump at it to quickly ;)

That's obviously brand new, no previous registered owner and via an authorized dealer.

Just read your comments on Fiesta STOC Ben, sorry to hear you had a few issues with Ford/the Fiesta rumble (which isn't standard) but I'm sure you'll like the R, it is a good car.  Bit more grown up and better build quality.

As you'd expect for a  300bhp 4x4 Golf over a sporty Fiesta. :)

Hi boss, thought you would put 2+2 as I referred to you in STOC as Bossfox but after I had used the name I realised your not called that on the Ford site and knew you from here as boss :)

Yes, they didn't have a "fox" at all, so I could use a shorter version.

We both use the same avatars though, which gives the game away anyway. :)

Sorry I can't open it up - " A week spent with the GOLF R Estate". You might need to buy or sneak a look at the mag.

Have a great day today, picking up your R. Enjoy the difference and have some fun.

Thanks sat in bed watching the clock!!!

I am getting 3.8-4.0s with my TMC. Need to get on a private land and do some 0-100 runs as I think this will be under 10

Sorry confused now.

What car are we talking about now with a TMC Tuning box fitted to, is it a Skoda Octavia?

R as per relevance to this thread

No you won't, I've just turned 68 &  found my self  "keeping company" with an RX8  & 1 series coupe last night..............

Got a serious telling off from SWMBO though..........

I still cant understand why theres no GTD estate, or GTI estate, but theres going to be an R estate?

Wouldnt a GTD sell better? Reps would like it...

There are Golf GTD Estates.

& Golf GTI Hatches are getting rather Expensive in the scheme of things with VW / Seat Pricing, where Seat do some nice Estates.

I did hear that a GTD R may be in the offing. Now that would tick more boxes for me.

Ah okay. Makes sense.

Should of had a GTD estate a few years back though. Im sure theyd sell plenty.

Those who want a relatively nippy, economical car but need the space.

My dad was after one in 2010, but seems as they didnt make one, he had to settle for the 140bhp CR DSG Sportline. Still a very nice car, but was the most powerful diesel they did in the estate.

GTD estates yes they do & are in the price list!, GTI WILL NEVER have an estate version as it is Hatch only for history & pedigree. GTD & R a case can be made for estate versions, but GTI is always a "hot hatch".

They have imo lessened the GTI now they have made the golf R mainstream

Well now in 2015/16 the Golf GTI is a Warmish Hatch @ 220ps & even with PP its not much these days other than a Fat Lump.

Skoda with all the Motorsport Heritage & Success only have 230ps now with Fat Lump petrol Octavias,

and you need to go to a even bigger Superb to get a performance Skoda these days.

Seat are now the Sporting and more affordable part of the VWG.
