Job done this afternoon, simple job to do top bearing tight and sprayed with WD40 and left to soak in. Turned it by hand for a few minutes then plugged it in and ran it in hand for a few minutes and now running lovely and free. Refitted along with a new cabin filter and it’s brilliant again. Thanks for the help it’s very much appreciated..🙌🏼🙌🏼

Another vote of thanks to Sanmart. I have a Superb Estate (2011). I removed the glove tray and insulating cover under the motor, disconnected cables and removed motor. The fan blades rotated, though a little stiff. Kept spinning it for a minute or so and squirted WD40 in the general direction of the motor. Put it back in and started car and it worked immediately. Now just need to refit glove tray and cables and Bob's yer uncle. Smiling at saving of £300-400.

You got this spot on, mine was full of water due to the new windscreen trim not being fitted correctly, dropped the motor out and sprayed with WD40 and is now fine. I was impressed with the finish under there - well put together.

Didn’t realise it was so easy. As mentioned previously in the post. Undo the plastic screws in the glove box, peel off the foam cover, turn the motor clockwise, keep turning clockwise while your wiggling it out, give it a spin, apply WD40. Job done.

Thank you very much for this solution.  Really clear and easy to do. Now fixed and saved the expense of getting a garage to do it.

I had forgotten how useful Briskoda was having been away from Skoda for several cars. Bit disappointed when my blower failed and horrified when I saw how much the O.E Valeo unit is, but picked up an EIS climate control spec unit from Euro Car Parts for £136 which I fitted myself using the instructions above, many thanks. The original fan had seized solid. Did get it lose after a good soaking of WD40 but did not feel that it was spinning as freely as it should and compared to the new unit it is not.  Happy and cool again bunny.

Carried out the blower fan removal job as described, I removed the whole glove box assembly to make access easier. After completion everything worked ok but I now have the “airbag error” light coming on, I assume this is because the yellow plug into the airbag switch was disconnected to get the glove box out. Can I reset this myself or does the car need to be plugged in to diagnostics to reset ? I have tried the procedure described by some others on You Tube by switching ignition on/off wait 3 seconds etc but to no avail. Maybe a dealer job 🤔

It's a latching warning and needs a dealer level computer to reset. You Chube living down to that nickname if it claims otherwise.

The reset can be done with any VAG compatible diagnostic tool such as VCDS or VCP. I think even Carista or OBDEleven might be able to do it.

Other than possibly Carista, those are "dealer level".

One time purchase gives you lifetime diagnostics for One manufacturer then each additional make is about £17

A naive reader could interpret what you wrote as them needing to visit a dealer, which would be unnecessary when there are good third party tools out there.

Did mine today (Aircon only) using a Euro Car Parts fan £89 and £10 for a resistor Took an hour but most of that was warming my hands . Thanks for the information!🍺🍺

Same issue, had a lot of bother getting the unit to move on my 2011 Superb, need to pull the arrow thing a little as it seems it was being held in place by it.

Anyone had any experience with no air coming out after replacing the blower fan still?

My fan stopped, which I had replaced with a 3rd party Passat blower by an auto electrician/air con specialist

 

You can now hear the fan blasting away, but still no air coming out

 

The technician has said it could be a blend door actuator or other flap problem that may need the dash removed to diagnose/repair, at a ~$1500 cost...

If anyone has any experience to share or similar it would be appreciated

Prior to the fan failure and replacement  the fan was certainly powerful enough to blow your hair back

Replaced with genuine blower fan and now works fine

 

after market Passat fan (same part no), didn’t work well for me

Did you get this resolved without going down the flap / air direction motor road? I was fortunate to get ours going again today with just the motor removal and squirt of WD40. We'll see how long that lasts. Ours is April 2012 build.

Fixed finally by replacing the fan with the genuine Skoda part

 

3rd party fan was terrible
