  • I ran one of the first mk2 Fab VRS and SWMBO wanted to top it by buying an Audi A1 1.4 TFSi DSG shortly after their launch. So the VRS is parked outside the Audi dealer and we're talking to a suit. W

  • Incorrect. As a new dad, boot space is crucial. I'll wager any new parent or parents in general quantify boot space before a purchase.

  • > Should I be concerned?   Yes.  The car will turn up in 12-14 weeks, but the engine won't be delivered for 6-7 months.

Why would anyone buy an Audi, when you can have octavia, makes no sense. Its the same car from bumper to bumper.

So what would your answer be?

Castration for the person who asked it so they don't breed.

I would tell them to go into the audi dealer and complain bitterly, demand answers, and insist on telling the manager they want it swapped under the sale of goods act for a better engine from audi... It would give the lads in the workshop a good laugh I reckon.

Not sure if I have this right but I'm sure that I came across information quite some time back, that VW's original interest in Skoda was down to it's ability to make all aluminium engines; VW where still using iron blocks at the time.

Skoda have been supplying the group small capacity engines for some time now and I always smile when I see a Skoda powered Audi :)

yes quite right, although it's not part of skoda auto (car making), the skoda heavy industries plant has the biggest foundry in Europe, it doesn't make economic sense to ship raw materials half way across the world when you can have it delivered from next door.

well that's news to me.... I didn't know that skoda made the 1.2 and 1.4 tsi engines for all the group...

Just gone from a mk 2 octy with extra sound insulation into an a3.

The a3 is much quieter, much lower emissions and much cheaper to own on a company lease.

I went to look at another octy, but it was another 2 tax bands up, so was a no no.

Not cheap either these days.

And yes I did have a mk 3 for a month and no it's not as good.

Little things like the audi radio holding onto dab but the skoda and the vw ones station swapping all the time.

Saying that the skoda at least has a rel handbrake f@@king electronic things are sucha stupid idea.

You keep telling yourself that mate....

Note to self: I must visit an Audi forum to post about my Octavia.

On second thoughts, that would be plain stupid so, note to self: Do not bother posting about my Octavia on a Audi forum.

Yeah a bit over a simplified comment lol

Don't think my skoda is the same as the Audi. They are actually different in many ways. Drive them back to back and you notice some good and some bad. Different all the same

Both my neighbours have Audi's and call my O3 a fake Audi, its water off a ducks back when I'm loading my nearly 600 litre boot, the one whom owns an A3 loads his roof box when he does the weekly food shop.

Thats why the 1.4 tsi twin charger is a lemon. Its a skoda engine :o

Tell him he eats too much food a week....

Read the topic title. Posting here if you own an Audi

is entirely relevant. Not to mention how it's very entertaining

reading people bringing up things like bootspace to justify

what car thay have bought, Clutch at straws much??

Iv got a 2013 fabia se, and my brothers got a 2005 audi a3 1.6.

Iv got to say, his a3 is much smoother, quieter and more refined.

Not too bothered about the Audi/Skoda debate, but boot space was the key factor in me deciding to buy my Skoda. Now if I put that justification to you, can you explain to me why I'm clutching at straws?

I think they were meaning the people that say about it's boot size that don't actually need it. I would say a limited number if drivers have boot space as a key factor

How is it incorrect? I said a limited number not zero!

And if boot space was the ultimate priority for new parents why are all new parents not driving some form of octavia.

I accept it's a factor and to some and a very limited number the only factor but most it's not.

Imagine the shock if your average VW owner found their Up! was built by Skoda, or their Scirocco built by Seat..

Group building policies have been around for years, but some people can't see beyond the badge on the keyfob.

The Audi will probably be built to the same standards as the Skoda/Seat/VW etc - just using better quality materials in places.  As for the emissions debate, well that might just be some clever group marketing as well as the fact that the O3 is bigger than the A3, so is bound to have a slightly higher air resistance (possibly offset by different aerodynamics).  You can't have the cheaper model outperforming the flagship on paper now, can you?

Don't forget that Skoda has, for years, stood for Some Kind Of Downmarket Audi.

Seriously though, why would the average punter have any idea what the provenance of the engine, or indeed almost any other part, is in any particular make or model of car? I suspect that many of the peeps on this forum have no real idea which of the many manufacturing and assembly plants in the VAG designed, developed, manufactured or assembled their engine.

With the enormous cast of developing modern engines and platforms, who knows nowadays what exchange deals are being made between the major groups, let alone within them.
