Fabia Recall

Recommended Posts

Should I start with, HELP.

I've got a 2013 yeti and, my daughter has a 2011 Fabia DSG. Which I presume it's a TSI and has a HTP badge on the boot.

Her car is booked in for an MOT this week. Dealer phoned a while ago and told her 'there's a recall on the DSG gearbox for the oil to be changed AND a part wiring loom change' as well.

She was told her car would take about 4 hours for everything to be done, and no charge for the work being done.

Reading all the above posts seems it's a big issue and should have been made public and, not pushed under the carpet (as I call it).

Reason for my posting this here is, there's a couple of posts on the Yeti forum.

Will try and update this when I get the right info from her at the end of the week.

Jrw - I also had this experience with my dealer - it is only when they prepare the paperwork for the sevice that they bother checking for any outstanding workshop service schedule work - if you want to ensure that they allocate enough time for your service to get the oil change and ecu update done at the same time ( 1 and a half hours) you might need to call them beforehand.

When you say 'booked in today' I assume you mean you made the booking for a few days time , or weeks time, and not yesterday.

Phoned them up today. It's down for a change. Doubt they would have told me if I hadn't called. They also said 1.5hours for the work.

So there is only 2 months between yours and my partners.

Yours has to be replaced, hers not.

What was going on at Skoda's production line?

I have a 2011 fabia vrs so gave them a call just and yes there is a note on there system that when customers make an enquiry about the oil problem they are to book it in for a check. Without you calling them you will not be contacted. Big thanks to everyone for highlighting this as I would have been none the wiser.

Tell that to Skoda UK, via their contact on the Skoda website.

Just got car back. Had to ask them if it's been done. No invoice or anything. Only when pushed did they say I'd get something in post. Not sure they've put the correct oil as invoice states 10w30. I thought it had to be 5w30 or is it them being cheap?

Jrw - if you are talking about the engine oil then yes - as far as I am aware it should be 5w -30

Don't know what type of mineral oil they are using for the gearbox oil replacement

Thanks for the alert to the fact that they are not providing paperwork

I wonder why?

JRW,

Shame that you were not able to view the technical work sheet that the technician work to.

Surely this change should be entered into the back of your service book.

The 'Service Campaign'  parts include a 'Sticker',

that sticker will to show the DQ200 DSG has now got Mineral Oil in Instead of Synthetic oil.

As well as them Inputting on the Skoda Computer Data Base, you will want the date of their Field Action in the Service book.

Not sure of the accuracy of that checker.

But maybe the Global VIN checker does work.

You are as well to see if your car requires a 'Service Campaign Field Action'  by calling

Skoda UK Customer Services.

If they can Not be Bothered to Up-date Skoda UK News Websites or Advertise the Service Campaign,

give them some calls to answer.

Phone number for Skoda UK Customer Services, email addresses for various previously named people at Skoda?

Have you actually bought a vRS yet or are you "still deciding"?

Edit: sorry just seen your post on the other customer service thread about the Fabia vRS being "a dog".

You would think so but often they do there own thing.

In this DSG issue ,it is not considered to be a RECALL!

The only recent 'Recall' on the VOSA site is the 'Citigo Airbag Sensor' i beleive.

This 'Silent Service Campaign' on the DQ200 7 speed Twin Clutch DSG is an odd one.

When you have a UK car between 2009-2014 you have to trust that the Skoda UK  or Skoda Dealer Employee is telling you correctly if your vehicle is part of the Service Campaign or not.

It does affect other Volkswagen Group Vehicles from VW, SEAT, Audi as well as Skoda.

Following received from Vehicle Safety Branch of VOSA

If this is their official response to everybody on this issue it is pathetic.........

We are aware of a concern regarding the gearbox oil used in certain VAG vehicles fitted with a DSG 7 speed box. We have been in discussions with the manufacturer and they are in the midst of organising a voluntary action of replacing the gear box oil on affected vehicles. Our understanding is vehicle s adversely affected have been in Far Eastern Areas and, to date we are not aware of any vehicles being directly affected in this country.

Contacting owners of affected vehicles is the manufacturers responsibility and is usually by post but this is carried out in stages to allow their agents time to allocate stock and man power resource. I am not able to say when notification will reach individuals but I'm advised that the manufacturer agents should be able to access the information on their internal systems and address affected vehicles. This is already being addressed on vehicles which are being presented for routine maintenance at a manufacturers agent (though there is no requirement to present a vehicle for service to get the action completed).

To find out if your vehicle is one affected by this you will need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which can be found on the V5C Registration form or from the vehicle VIN plate. A manufacturer's agent should be able to tell you if your vehicle is affected or alternatively you can contact VAG customer services direct.

Thank you

Regards

........they completely failed to address the issue IMO and completely failed to explain why VAG are allowed to treat this as a non safety issue despite the fact that the ambient temperature would have little impact on the operating temperature of the gearbox oil.

Attended the dealership this morning. They confirmed that my veh was one which is on the recall list, They are just waiting for some specialist tools to complete the job. Then they will be contacting owners directly.

With regards to the comments as to whether this is a recall or not, here is the reply when I input my VIN number in the Skoda website that I quoted above at 0106 today.

Dear customer,
a recall campaign has been found for the entered VIN XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

Please contact your preferred service partner as soon as possible, who will provide you with all necessary information and service to ensure your safety and car functions. If further assistance is needed, please contact the „ŠKODA Customer Hotline“.

I wonder how many responses they need, before they re-look at it?

Just checked mine using this site and it shows a recall is required... Doesn't say for what but I assume it must be the gearbox as I was told at last service it did not need the wire harness fix.
