Fabia Recall

Featured Replies

Now I'm back and fully recovered from my trip to Brazil I called into the dealership yesterday morning and the car is booked in for DSG oil change on 23rd July.

I thought Skoda or the dealer I bought the car from (Parks) might have been in touch - if it hadn't been for this forum I'd have carried on in blissful ignorance!

Don't see how this isn't a safety issue. My vrs (nov 2011) was binned exactly because it lost drive at 80, in an overtaking situation, in heavy traffic. I'm sorry but there isn't anyone who could conv

Got my car back after the oil change ecu update etc, and those stuttering issues I have been experiencing have completely gone.

Brian is it Parks of Hamilton ?

Have you come across 'Gordon',

could he be a Service Manager that thinks 1 litre of Oil used in 500 miles is OK?

(Another member is due to have them doing a Oil Consumption Test.)

Take care with having the DSG Oil Changed from Synthetic to Mineral & ECU Update.

Maybe ask for an Explanation of what they are doing, maybe something in writing or to see the Technical Document Skoda supplied them with.

& ask have they done some already,

get the Service Book filled in with the Date of the Work, & ask who is covering the Warranty on the Work,

them or Skoda UK.

The Service Campaign is on behalf of Skoda, and if anything shows up as an issue after the work, someone needs to take responsibility.

Thanks for the advice, George.

Yes, it's Parks of Hamilton - I bought the car from them (when it was a year old - they were also the original supplying dealer) but I now get it serviced by Henrys in Glasgow (and they'll be doing the DSG oil change) - the two guys on the service desk there (Donald and Sean) are top notch.

Bump,

The OP was the first one in the Section of the Forum that was told his car require action & posted.

Still confusion 6 weeks later thanks to Skoda UK not coming oui with facts.

I think I was the OP, and my car was done last week. As I've been having to go back and fourth to the garage quite a bit this year, including the oil change (everything is sorted now) Skoda customer services offered me a free service, which was nice. Car doesn't feel any different after the change. If it prolongs the life of the gearbox, then great.

As mentioned at the beginning, sorry if I caused any unnecessary worry or confusion to anyone, I was just quoting what I'd been told by my local dealership at the time.

You never caused confusion you brought it to everyones attention.   It was good that you did.

Skoda UK cause Confusion with a Silent Service Campaign,   & no Recall, but some Dealership Staff talk about Recalls.

some of the Owners of the Earliest cars have heard nothing and never will unless they are in touch with Dealers.

Some Dealers say there is no ECU Update as part of the 'Field Action'.

2 months since the Service Campaign Started and still no Publicity from Skoda UK on which Vehicles might be part of the Campaign,

& no UK VIN Checker out their from Skoda UK.

'If it prolongs the life of the Gearboxes that have the Field Action, then surely that means the Life of the ones that Owners have and

Skoda do not contact to have work done might be shortened, like the Driver & Passengers lives.'

I would like to know how many cars are having the Mechatronic Control Unit Changed in the UK in vehicles with Boxes built between 2010-11,

to Prolong the Life of the Gearbox.

When I spoke on the phone last week to Caroline from Skoda UK she said that my car didn't require this change, it wasn't something that affected every car. In fact she said I should be well pleased that there is nothing outstanding to be done with my car as less done the better surely.

I have a feeling that between Caroline and Gordon at the dealer that I am in for a time of it. Unfortunately for them, so too are they if they think I'm some shrinking violet.

I'm due to go back on Tuesday with the results of the self test for oil consumption, which the car appears to have failed miserably going by Skoda UK's own handbook figures, and I will be asking the dealer to check whether this DSG oil change is to be done on my car. I'll let you know as part of my update.

Brazil huh? Wasted trip ;)

As to the DSG oil change and ECU update, by all accounts I very much doubt that it would have made any difference if you hadn't heard about it before your next service or that you will notice any difference after the work is done.

Have YOU checked the link that has been posted a number of times?

If its the link where you post your vin number into the box I have yes. If its another link, then no.

It is all well posting a Link to a VIN Checker from another World Region.

It works for some vehicles and not for others that do require Field Actions.

The wording on 'Recall' is not correct for the UK.

Some Citigos have a recall, not mk2 Fabias.

Skoda UK should put a VIN Checker up for Service Campaigns on a Skoda UK Site.

vxh26,

as is often said, early cars might have no Service Carried out with Skoda Dealerships,

but do have the Service Schedule done as by Manufacturers Guidelines, & these Guidlines still do not include Service Work on the DSG.

But Skoda Dealers have a Technical Document telling them about the Field Action.

I've just checked, it was the same link I had used previously and it has said there are no outstanding recalls for my vehicle. I've also realised, and am quite relaxed about, that not every single car with the 7 speed DSG would be affected. My biggest problem is wanting to have the car spot on, and wanting to make sure Skoda UK help me achieve that before its warranty period expires.

An outstanding Service Campaign Item can be the Heated Seat Element/Switch or the Wiring Loom.

Or anything else that start to cause issues and that a Dealership may or may not pick up on and tell you about.

There are no UK Recalls, which is why the Checker has you asking a Dealership.

Sometimes Skoda Customer Services can not give an answer on what is required.

There are 1,300 vRS Twinchargers in the UK Registered in the First Year with many that are out of Warranty,

But Skoda will have to check the Gearboxes, and they are not contacting Registered Keepers.

The reason for the Service Campaign on the DSG is supposedly a Preventative Measure & Not Safety Critical in our Weather & Environment.

Other world Regions with Similar Weather have Recalls or Service Campaigns made Publick with Press Releases because it was considered Safety Critical.

<snip> My biggest problem is wanting to have the car spot on, and wanting to make sure Skoda UK help me achieve that before its warranty period expires.

I can entirely understand and 100% sympathise with that. However, I suspect that if you have checked your VIN on the link that has been mentioned from time to time and it reports that your car does NOT need a DSG oil change and ECU update you don't actually need that work done. None the less, for your peace ofmind, go ahead and ask your local friendly Skoda dealer to check whether a DSG oil change and ECU update is due to be done on your car at the next service.

In the meantime, chill out, stop stressing,be happy ;)

As to the DSG oil change and ECU update, by all accounts I very much doubt that it would have made any difference if you hadn't heard about it before your next service or that you will notice any difference after the work is done.

I agree with that, which is why I was in no rush to get it done.

You have a good one like i have & would be surprised if you need it changed,

but now Skoda know you know you probably have to have it done.

Where they do not let people know, there will be an open ended requirement for them to sort out any issues as long as the Car has been serviced according to schedule and Manufacturers Guidelines.

We have Warranties and are Servicing the cars.

I did ask ColinD if there could be a proper Pinned Post on the Non Recall of the DQ200 DSG Twin Dry Clutch 7 Speed,

since there is no UK REcall,

or any Skoda Publicity on a Service Campaign.

There are several Threads in General Chat,

& all over Briskoda in various Sections, Various Titles .

Silence was the reply from the Briskoda Forum Owner.  Ziltz, Nothing,

So maybe Briskoda is part of the 'Skoda Secret Service and Support of Silent Service Campaigns' Campaign.

Or is that a conspiracy just too far. ?

Just received a letter from Skoda Customer Quality and Network Development.  (abridged)

As part of regular product monitoring Skoda has found that vehicles with a DSG 7speed gerbox filled with synthetic oil can lead to an internal short circuit...In order to prevent a possible breakdown, we would like to offer you a free precautionary check with any Skoda repairer...If necessary, your gearbox oil will be changed to mineral oil...performed free of charge...We strongly recommend you take up this offer to avoid any inconvenience you may occur if the vehicle develops this condition...We are sure you will appreciate the need of this precautionary measure...

Came in an envelop with a Skoda and Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency emblems

Thanks.

Lovely stuff,

an Employee at Skoda UK Customer Services was only just telling a member yesterday that they were looking at doing that,

but yet again, he was maybe behind the curve.

Perhaps the right thing is to post a denial then!

Can't "Run with the Fox and hunt with Hounds" - well perhaps you can if you get funds to help.

Privy to information I guess runs both ways.

  • 2 weeks later...

Booked mine in for service today (Sept 2012 vRS) and apparently after checking my chassis number, it's not in need of the 'Service Campaign' work. Curious as to why other need it and my doesn't but there must be a good reason :-)

The Seat chaps are starting to get the letters now too - apart from me!

We've just had the same letter as nockmeister and our car will be going in on Friday - 62 reg 105hp DSG, 17000 miles on clock. Free oil. Sounds good to me.

Just had mine done this morning. Took them all of 1hr 45 mins which I didn't mind as it gave me time to look at all the models in the showroom  ;). Had to drag SWMBO away from a gorgeous Superb with full cream leather  .

Car feels absolutely as smooth as previous though I've only driven 10 miles so far.

Will report later on how it feels, hopefully no probs.

Harry.

Our Fabia was done this morning at Beadles in Maidstone. My wife spotted immediately how much smoother it was to drive home. And they gave it a good wash too, which is something of a treat for the unfortunate car. Everyone's a winner. Well done Beadles.

I had mine done on thursday after phoning them last week

VW recall was the term used throughout all conversations
