remote central locking

Featured Replies

hello, i have posted on here and been searching for help for a few weeks now and i am getting no where

just to clarify i have a fabia mk1 2001 (51 plate) comfort WITH central locking

i am trying to find out if i can add a remote to the car so i have the lock and unlock buttons on my key instead of this cheap plastic key i have, when i bought the car mid april i received two keys both plastic NO buttons, i am wanting to fit a remote flip key to my fabia and having bought one just wondering if there is anything i need to do before programming such as enabling a setting in the ecu or can i just program the remote fob to work, i have took the dash apart and looked at the part number for the central locking module and it is the exact same as a module for a fabia with a remote so i was curious about this

any help would be highly appreciated

cheers

T

You need to install an after market module for this, you cannot just add a remote control to the actual setup.

I purchased a cheap remote control module which came with 2 blank flip keys.(~20euros, without alarm system, I don't really need beeps and anoying sounds - I needed it for situations when I had to go shopping, go unlock the doors then open to boot lid, it was a bit inconvenient for me to walk around the car a few times just to get the groceries in).

I had it installed (~15euros) and I also had to go to a car key locksmith to fit the old keys chips into the new cases and copy the blades (another 15euros) .

It's working fine, BUT, the comfort module will not work ok, at least not mine. I cannot open or close the windows via remote with a long click, because there is only one wire that sends both commands and it was messing up the comfort module for some reasons and I just canceled that function. No big deal for me though.

Hint: you can find the Skoda badge on ebay to stick it on to the aftermarket remote key so it will look pretty similar with the original one.

Hint 2: The electrician that installed the remote locking system on my car, initially tried to solder the wires to the inside buttons that locking and unlocking the doors. It is not ok, because this way, the car will be locked but not safe (if one of the windows is down or smashed, the car can be easily unlocked by pulling the inside door levers). When the car is locked from outside, even if a window is down and you pull the door levers, the car will not be unlocked.

The device has to be connected to the door lock, it's a must. It might be a little more difficult, but it will be better.

I believe there is a transmitter chip inside the the original key-fobs thats sends messages to car receiver.

I assume there is the receiving facility in the car as standard, but you will still need that transmitter chip that sits inside the key-fob.

Just hang-on for the moment, you will probably get a better informed member to help your cause..
