Is this something one can install himself? What about warranty? (if something related to suspension fails in future)

  • ^^^ Now I understand, my OEM dampers are made from cheesecake and my springs in my very early production run O3 must have been made by Mattel and these bits were still lying around from the concept ca

  • Get yourself a Golf 7 shocks! I have change at the rear only the 2 shocks to a brand new ORIGINAL Golf 7 shocks. They fit perfectly. The car is more like a Citroen now. Make sure that you are buying

  • Thank you for your considered opinion. I'll just carry on enjoying the comfortable ride in my car.

Obviously the part itself wont be covered by Skoda, but there should be a seperate warranty from whoever manufactures the shocks you decide to go for.

Everything else on the car should be fine, and i believe others have checked this before going ahead.

Have been over this thread a few times this year. Whenever I feel the car is bumpy and I get a pain with it I come back here [emoji23]. Sitting in the dealer service right now while they're doing a suspension test. At least then I'll know if everything is as it should be before I make any change decisions

These cars are budget cars so I would expect lesser quality in certain areas, the suspension being an example.

I don't think the ride is firm as some may suggest, as I find the car rolls easily and the damping does propogate through the car body to easily. Then again a 2.0tdi estate is no 'sports car' so does it need to handle like one.

The use of the torsion bar arrangement was a surprise.. seems a little outdated.

Not sure I would go so far as to say they're budget cars but there certainly a few corners cut here and there quality wise from what I've read on here. Anyway, car passed the suspension test and I did my tyre pressures last light so I know now I'm at a "zeroed" condition and can make a call on what to do next

Hi Dravensteel

I've seen your posts.

If you follow the procedures that i have done, you will save yourself a lot of time and thinkings(and maybe money as well).

Get yourself the ORIGINAL golf limosine shocks according to the serie numbers that i've published, and you will be fine!

No tyre pressure or tyre profile will realy change the behevior of the vehicle absorbing effect.

The suspentions give about 90% of the absorbing effect, and the tyres about only 10%.

Hence every pressure or profile change, will only affect the 10% of the whole absorbing ability.

And one more small thing.

There is no direct relation between the suspention tuning, and the vehicle "class".

I used to have very comfortable cheap cars(peugeot, Renault, Citroen), and very horrible comfortwise expensive cars(BMW 330, Subaru ST, Volvo 740).

So have Skoda gone soft, tall spring..rock hard damper on the standard suspension then.....seems so

Thanks for the reply. I've seen your posts before too and will look into them again

You've found the golf shocks made all the different then obviously?

What is the price Golf stock shocks?

There must be plenty of Superbs out there with one or more transportation blocks still in place. Does anybody know if the suspension system would be damaged by the blocks being in place over a period of time?

What makes you say that?

i can't see it being an issue

I have just fitted Golf rear shocks to my Combi and the difference is significant. The ride is much more compliant and you can feel the wheels moving on bumps and ruts rather than the whole vehicle. I got a pair of used shocks from a Golf Mk7 1.6 TDi, as they have the torsion beam suspension, and the mileage on them was much less than on mine. Fitting was very easy, wheel off, three bolts and job is done, all finished in less than 1 hour, although if anyone is thinking of doing this, the bolt for the bottom pivot is undone from inboard, don't try and undo the welded-on captive nut on the outboard part of the joint! I spent a fair few minutes on this before I had my "moment of clarity".

Not the mother of topic revival but pretty good still :)

Hello,

I have been looking eBay for used original rear dampers and see ,that they are manufactured usually by Sachs. Has anybody tried new rear dampers from Sachs with correct code, how do they preform?

What a shame, I kept my original rear dampers for over 2 years (since I put the Golf shocks on) and after seeing them in the garage for so long I finally decided to recycle them just recently.

you know.... i this is just anecdotal but, my TDI feels much less 'crashy' and like the front wheels will buckle when i hit rough road or a pot hole now the lowering sports springs are fitted! and ive changed from Geminis to  Extremes 19s as well. i cant explain it.

I’ve changed from 18 inch diesel vrs to petrol 230 on 19’s.

The ride is so much better. Enjoying being a VRS owner again.

Jolting this thread back into life, just bought a late 2017 1.4tsi Octavia hatch, and like others on here, despite the tyre pressures being at 2.2 the ride still feels too unsettled and jolty. So I'm taking the plunge and fitting the Golf rear shocks 5Q0513049CQ in the hope it makes a marked improvement. Weren't easy to find new.

Because I'm a lazy sod I'm having them fitted reluctantly by my local trusted garage in a couple weeks, they don't like fitting parts they haven't sourced themselves but have made an exception. Thanks to @tamir0 and @spacenase on here who mentioned this .
