Do petrols need "some" exhaust for back pressure?  The mechanics of it are a little lost on me with turbo petrol.  I know on a diesel, the best exhaust is no exhaust :D

slowly getting there

  • 2 weeks later...

Its saturday morning and i got up to goto the yard to work on my fabia...  instead i have read this properly from start to finish (rather than just flicking through it)

you sir have my full respect!! you got some serious skills and access to some funky tools too!     My octy would love a CF bonnet if your ever bored and fancy making one haha!

Mental build, and again much respect to you for doing it all yourself, you most deffo have to potential to be a 1 man tuner with your welding and fabrication skills.  i for 1 could give you a list of shinys to make for my cars lol

keep up the good work dude, and i hope to 1 day meet this car and owner :)

thanks Gee glad you like it :D unfortunately i don't know when or if the carbon panels will happen as my personal circumstances have changed drastically this week hopefully for the better but means i have next to no time now. The fab has been on axle stands for 4 weeks now whilst I've been doing a few jobs including the clutch and exhaust in the late evenings. Hopefully it will return to the black stuff in the next week or so. The tools and equipment have definitely allowed this project to done with my own hands as even the finest tuners can sometimes fall short of their reputations. The whole project has been a learning curve. Learning to TIG weld in my spare time has definitely paid off and kept costs down allowing me to buy some more desirable parts, amongst other things. There's still more to come as we all no there is no such thing as a finished project.

Tail pipe looks a little odd as i grit blasted it but will soon sut up and brown over. Its still a 3" system but with a 2.5" or a 3" tip, will post a video when i have one. Scrap yard trip yesterday resulted in a sea green rear bumper without burn hole and nasty rash from when i got nudged by a numpty, all fitted now and looks much better. Fingers crossed will get everything bled up and go for a test drive tomorrow night

Love it! Can't beat a side exit exhaust!

Fantastic. Nicely made too :)

Looks like you've slotted yours in the same chassis notch I have :D

Now you need to make a tray to fit the battery in to the space where the rear silencer used to go to get the weight lower down :P

Trouble is that would involve a fair amount of floor chopping etc as the backbox sits alongside the spare wheel well rather than under it.  It would be more of an extension than anything.  Bonus is you could then actually use the spare wheel well for its original purpose, which I cannot at the moment....

Yeah good point, doesn't really get it any lower down. I was thinking of housing it externally, rather than expanding the wheel well.

What you need is something with a nice space behind the spare wheel, like my estate :P

i certainly did, gives it that little bit extra clearance ot worked out just right with the silencer i already had which was a bonus. Only expense was the heat wrap and some bushes as used the bends from my original system.

now that sounds like a good idea :) or mount the Quattro ;) possibly buying a AGU this week to rebuild for more power in due course

Got it all bleed up last night and went for a spin all seems to be well, clutch feels awesome and very positive taking it easy till its bedded in. It defiantly revs more freely with the lightened flywheel.  Tracking is now a country mile out so that will be do this week. i have new wheels too complete with more monster truck tyres that will be swiftly changed this week. Feels damm good to have it back in one piece again

new wheels on 45's just needs spacers and center caps

Those elegance wheels do suit the Fabia really well.

The amount you've done to this car just shows what can be done with a bit of determination, especially as by the look of it, it was mostly just done on a drive.

Well done sir :)
