the only FGF one to havae a roll cage is the Santa Pod special we never finished... has a massive hole in the back already cut out for you Ben ;)

Exactly Taylor, plus it would be a shame for it to go the crusher when I can give it a new lease of life

Eagle forged rods, Wosser pistons, block over bored .5mm, polished crank hopefully will see 400 if I run water meth so should be entertaining. Been machining and fabricating some bits and bobs to mount the engine, not alot seems to be happening but it is in the background I promise

been busy making the engine mount brackets over a few lunch breaks, little more to do then the block can be mocked up around the re worked front sub frame arrangement.... pictures to follow

not finished yet, need to machine and fabricate the 'lolly pop' mounts which will then mount to a cross member which will sit under the sump or just in front depending on how it all sits in the bay

another lunch break passes by and some more bits machined ready for trial fit tonight then welding up next week. These are essentially the beginning of the engine cradle/cross member/subframe

How much were the engine internals?

How much were the engine internals?

A substantial amount of my budget to say the least

  • 2 weeks later...

a trip to the east end yesterday to see Mr.Fox, resulted in this and a few other tasty bits. Should be able to speed the job up now i have a rolling shell to work on. Slight progress on other bits such as engine mounts.

Excited to see the results. :D

What happened to the dark green one?

  • Author

still got it, but it will be used to jig all the custom parts up for this, was originally to convert the sea green one but the FGF came up with a cage already welded in

*And the rear floor already cut out ;)

Had a good look over the FGF last night after the little one was asleep and hand on heart i will not be using the shell as a base for the RWD project. The cage will get transferred over into my original Sea Green 'classic' shell as will all the other parts that are relevant. This may seem a side-wards move (literally) but due to the diet plan that the FGF went under its the only way forward in my honest opinion, as i'm concerned of the structural strength at the rear of the chassis, which having over 350 horses being sent to the rear is an issue. As the FGF was originally destined for the strip things such as MOT/VIC test/ general public road safety were not an issue, but as mine will be fully road legal i'm not 100% on either of these. There is more work involved moving forward with the FGF than in the other shell plus the questionable thing of will it actually pass an MOT etc. A little deflated as the colour in the flesh is awesome. On a plus side got a new bucket seat for the passenger side, and done a little more on the gearbox adapter plate.

the chassis rail on the drivers is the major player, as two brace bars will be welded across that area to hold the diff cradle/subframe

Makes sense, saves the VIC test too and declaring it's modded plus a Cat C to the insurance company.

I'm kinda glad your not using that shell. I spoke to Taylor about it and we both agreed that you may not want to use it, due to no structure at the rear. But it was strangely satisfying to cut massive holes in a car.

Ben, if you're not using the car, can I please have the 2 passenger side doors? :)

Did it come with front and rear bumpers too?

Sure dude the shell will be scrapped after the cage is removed.

No mate no bumpers unfortunately

Echoing what danny said, we were a bit unsure, as the amount of work/weight added to the car in reinforcing/bracing, you may as well stick to the Sea green and save re manufacturing the rear of the car ontop of what you already need to do to get RWD. :)

Hahaha indeed, least the local lot will recall the sea green one when its back on the road

These are the start on the front cross member/ engine cradle which will bolt on the console bush aluminium casting (pics to follow)
