Taylor93's Mk1 VRS

Featured Replies

I don't know what's been spent on it so far, but I bet it's still around half the cost.

And because it's a fixer upper Taylor isn't scared of taking it on track. ;)

Hopefully now it's being used harder than ever before all the weak links will be removed and Taylor can get on with enjoying it, which reminds me... better go look for a driveshaft in the parts store... :D

How many driveshafts do you have? I've got a problematic clunk again

Hang on, I'll get on Copart again... :D

Well tracking was done, was out a little bit but nothing too serious, but it would appear since then the knock/creak appears to have gone :S

Very puzzled we couldnt see anything underneath except my suspicions about the near side drive shaft.

drives well :) is a good bit of fun now :D

Thing is one of the other guys at ATS said the RARB could be an MoT failure as its bolted directly onto the rear strut mount (no drop links) and that its strapped onto the rear beam axle.

Its installed as per instructions, so im confused why it "could" be seen as a MoT failure, any ideas?

Sounds good.

Ignore the highly qualified "tyre fitter".

A tyre fitter told my mate with a Leon that all his suspension was bent from a crash. Took it for a full alignment and a check over, all was fine.

Was this your "tyre fitter"

Update!

I may have accidently fitted an Airtec FMIC :D no pics as the light was crap by the time i got home from work and started taking snaps.

Todo:

Remap, Stage 1 Shark map (Booked in with Rob at W8)

EGR Delete, i have the Allard pipe, but i need to fab the top boost pipe, any advice guys?

Balance suspension

Replace Offside Headlight (its broken in 2 places)

Fit a new Horn. The aftermarket two tone horn had to be removed for the FMIC, however the OEM horn was missing, so ive temporarily rigged up an old Mk6 Ford Escort horn (which is knackered but still makes a sound)

Track day bro! (3rd Nov)

When are you getting it mapped? In time for the track day?

What are they like? will the horn come with the connector from the loom? (last one was cut off) are all 3 fixings attached?

The horn is still on the car so it will come with all of that and I'll have to check on the headlamp, which side?

I've got a twin tone one to fit ;)

Good stuff. Any chance of you taking me for a few laps? Want to get mine done. Only been in robs black fabia that's been mapped. Would be good to see what they are like on a track.

Ben's Fabia (BJB540) is just mapped with some lowering springs and a RARB I think, would be a good comparison.

Taylor, will your map be stage 2? Got any wheels to put on for Brands? Mine will be in the boot when we arrive at Tigermoth. Is there anywhere we can get a semi decent breakfast? (Sorry, OT)

Im not sure tbh, if im honest i dont quite know what it takes to count as "stage 2".

Food wise not entirely sure tbh. haha my breakfast tends to be in my own home or a Mcdonalds once in a blue moon! :P

Custom remap :P

Stage 2 is normally downpipe and sports cat/decat, induction mods and FMIC. You're mostly there by the looks. Depends what power you get.

Standard Down pipe with the cat atm, induction side i have the EGR delete to fit, the FMIC done, and thats it.

before anyone asks no im not running a pod filter.

Oh you're not a pan person then ;)

OT, but anyone's welcome to come out for a few laps in my Fabia on the 3rd. Decent stage 2 with diff :)

Back on topic, I've got a set of headlights if your interested, could do with a bit of a restoration though

I have been very stupid, but very lucky at the same time.....

So i drove to Richards this evening to balance the suspension up (4 corner weighing scales) was going fine, until I left his house Like a bat out of hell.

Not even a mile and bang something went wrong. pulled over (karma striking hard and fast), and was confronted by this sound:

http://vid264.photobucket.com/albums/ii191/Warlord_1011/20141024_195747_zpsjbvuophw.mp4

I must be Iceman because that turbo is Goose'd! Checked for boost leaks, luckily I had a trolley jack in the car so jacked it up had a good look underneath, definitely a gooesed turbo

Bearing in mind i was 80 miles from home, it was dark (but i wasnt wearing sunglasses) and i had no break down cover, i had only one option. That was to drive home nursing it the entire way. Which was very risky indeed. Imagine a Blunt drill bit being driven into stainless steel, that sound, occasionally happening, after 20 miles i pulled into the shell garage on the A12 J11, and had to buy 1L of oil (£16!) as it had drunk it. Still Nursing it home as it could not go past 1700 revs, and could not do more than 50 mph. After stopping again at Thurrock Services to grab a drink, it got worse.

It was as if the time alone allowed it to cool, shortly before this the screeching had stopped, but now it came back as an intermittent grinding so now the turbo still spinning only now it was definately loosing oil in a thin mist. Driving home overt he dartford crossing the car could not even do 50mph in third, it slowed to about 40mph. After the next 30 odd miles, i arrived almost home with this behind me:

http://vid264.photobucket.com/albums/ii191/Warlord_1011/20141024_215209_zpsfbfiw5af.mp4

Put it this way i stopped at a cross roads and couldnt see anything behind me and in my wing mirror saw a car stop for the lights about 3 car lengths behind me to avoid the smoke.

I must be a knats whats-it from a runaway, or an exploding turbo but it has happened. You may think im taking this very lightly, im not, its just there is nothing i can do right now to fix it, and its going to be an expensive fix none the less. I do however feel this may be the final nail in the coffin for this car. But Heyy ho life goes on.

Before anyone asks I know it had plenty of oil when i fitted the FMIC as i checked it!, It was well up the dip stick so the turbo must have been on its last legs.
